mmm, yeah, dubbed Balalaika is way scarier than subbed Balalaika tbh.

 

Eh, dubbed Balalaika was made to sound condescending and angry. In the original version however she sounds like an annoyed adult admonishing a kid. That is a significant change in character imo.

 

Mind me, I think the scene carries the same intensity, it's just that both version deliver it very differently. It should also be mentioned that this scene is rife with cultural bias and the imagery of an adult admonishing a child is something that an eastern audience is much more in tune with than a western one as the basic philosophical concept of filial piety is MUCH more common over there and adds a second layer to the scene's intensity that can't really be translated at all.

 

So I suppose her having been made to sound openly angry was the closest thing you could get to carry over the significance of it.

Just saw Rokka no Yuusha episode #7. Slightly misjudged the anime's pacing, I had anticipated the fight with Hans would occur in episode #8. Also not entirely satisfied with that one so far (the LN had the fight a lot more pitched, despite how much stronger Hans was said to be), but let's see how it ends in the next episode as this encounter isn't over yet.

 

As a whole, the adaption keeps being rater good, although I'm not exactly thrilled (pun intended) how the anime omits the Seventh villianous monologues. Sure enough it's a technical problem, can't exactly make voiced monologues without spoiling people who recognize the voice, and just using a different voice for it disconnects the impression with the revelation of the character, but I do miss the extra suspense that came with the reader knowing a bit extra, which was used rather effectively to lure readers into developing sidelined expectations. Which is obviously something that's not often used in that fashion, so it's a tragic loss of narrative perspective imho, regardless of the difficulty to implement it.
