Haha YYH final arc doing some Ant Arc things with the whole 'are humans any better?' Theme.

I'm not looking forward to the not really an ending ending of the manga.

Once I get to the anime I wonder if it'll change.

ETA

I bet Toagshi had trouble putting this up on Jump.

We all know humans are the worst.

Gon felt like he was supposed to be a goody two shoes kid that just had a very bad day/weeks/months

His immediate situation I can understand what he did but the lead up to it and everything else was pathetic.

Look.

If the Ant Arc wanted to be the battle shounen it subverted then you would have had your epic clash.

Gon would have magically powered up with no context what's so ever to defeat his adversary after some amount of struggle.

Spoiler

Believe it or not, there's a lot of comments about HxH from shounen fans who thought the entire thing was anti climactic. They expected 1v1s with the Phantom Troupe, they wanted Gon and Killua to reach the Arena's Masters and beat them; they thought Gon might have won Hanzo in a sudden fit of fury and they certainly thought the Ant Arc was anti climactic because what was originally planned never actually happened the way it was supposed to.

Haha

Their entire plan is f*cked from the moment they entered. If the pacing wasn't as sh*t as it was then dammit it would have beaten Brotherhood's climax to a pulp.

This one of the things I loved the most about HxH.

I didn't really know a lot about HxH besides the fact that it is a shounen so when I started watching I was actually surprised by some of the things you mentioned. In a good way of course.

Hnnnngh. The switch to selfish motives is a bit of a weakness of mine (looking at you, HF Shirou ) so I can say that there's a strong chance I'll appreciate that come the Ant Arc, if all plays plays out in a way that tickles me.

Which is why his actions in the arc were great on a story telling point of view.

If Togashi wanted us to route for Gon he wouldn't have developed the situation the way he did.

He's frustrating and annoying because people forget that Gon's this 14 year old kid who has dangerous views on the world (Kite points this out early on.) He's constantly selfish and naive without even knowing it.

However when those traits turn from happy go lucky Gon to f*cking malicious and malevolent we see the other side to him.

Sh*t man, I've said it before. The Ant Arc is amazing because of these things and how well they work with the themes involved. Gon is being entirely human; he's not fighting for anyone or some higher ideal, he's fighting entirely for himself for his own reasons and unfortunately it came down to his darker side coming out. It's a huge breath of fresh air when the shounen protagonist's role blurs to the point where we could see him as the antagonist.

Hell, even I got annoyed, I hated Gon in the Arc, especially when he threatened to kill you know who. But duuuuuudes, mah anime peeps from afar! That's what makes the story as great as it is!

I haven't forgotten that Gon's 14 years old. To the contrary, it's why I stomached a lot more of his naivete than I probably would have otherwise. The arc was fantastic, that's not in question. It doesn't mean that I can't be frustrated with the character.

Ah, good old Chapter Black. That was my favorite arc in the series. I believe that was Season 3. Also had best opening sequence.

Sim just perfectly summing up why I love HxH right there. It handles the good anti climax well. The Hero's get in do the thing they want and then just simply leave in many of the arcs. Hell this is a series where the most insane person of the series is Wing the nice trainer man.

Yeah but Shirou it's a little different.

Since us as the audience are fine with these decisions since they don't harm the characters we love.

Hating Gon is pretty much something that will happen. Not a guarantee, but it's very likely.

Like I said, the role of antagonist and protagonist is very blurred in the arc.

You can argue for both sides with at least four characters.

Nah like I said.

I hated him during the arc.

In a very good way tho'

Not in the same way I'd hate Sauske.

I hate Sauske because he's a f*cking idiot as well as a terrible character.

I will say that HxH easily subverted my expectations on how the arcs would end. That said, I really, really preferred how the Ant and Yorknew Arcs ended. Yorknew was just so goddamn perfect.

Characters that switch to selfish motives are always great. One of my favorite MC's does something along those lines.

Though I personally prefer UBW Shirou because I just find his ideals beautiful and the fact he didn't give up on them despite what he saw was just something that made me love the guy.

Glad we're talking about anime again.

Yes.

Yorknew was amazing sauce and an arc I can easily watch again and again with no problem what's so ever.

The Phantom Troupe are my ideal sort of real bad guys.

I still love the antman arc.

I will despise Gon no matter how well done his character is man.

That's all there is to it. I just found his actions pathetic even if they were "well done".

Well he trained up two kids to be perfect killing machines so they can fight in a killing tournament and then go kill people afterwards. Everything is Wing's fault. I am only half joking.

Funnily enough. I admired his determination and resolve but thought his ideals were stupid and would cause pain to the people that cared about him. That's why I preferred him to the Fate Shirou mainly because UBW Shirou actually will fight for his ideals instead of be in the kitchen.

Also the more you guys talk about HxH the more I think I'm going to enjoy it.

Everyone had insufficient show time in HxH. The secondary nakamas in every season (after Killua, Kurapika and Leorio, like that Ninja), Leorio and Kurapika, even Hisoka and Ging. I suppose those who were in Chimera Ant arc had enough time though!

Nope, at the last season he is still called a 12 years old!

That's right.

Fate Shirou mainly just cooks for Saber. I think that there are 3 days are so in the Fate route that consist only of cooking and training with Saber :P.

That's due to the lack of episodes. The show should be at like 300 at the very least by now.

That's pretty much exactly when my brain started melting out my ears in the Fate route too. Luckily later points do make up up to it.

Still better than Naruto filler :P

Yes I watched Naruto, that was because I sprained my ankle so badly I couldn't walk and there was a marathon... and it was the only thing worth watching at the time. I'm pretty sure the filler caused more pain then the ankle XD

Back on topic, there were only three parts that really stuck with me. The rest were okayish.

Spoiler

The cooking scenes could've been made tolerable by putting the same amount of intensity into them as the fight scenes.
