I didn't really think the series was that bad. It was just the OVA that made me platinum mad. I mean really, Yuki wasn't a bad character, but he was the most unlikable character ever, and the ending to the series was some of the best poetic justice I've ever seen. Why did the OVA have to happen?

Alternate universe Yuno. It just felt like it was there just to be a plot twist and the fact that Yuno being yandere felt really forced. I would've preferred it if we went through the first universe. Twould be more interesting and then do the 2nd one.

I have a love, and mostly hate relationship with Freezing.

 

Main character is super passive yet his harem just grows.

 

Seems to be a thing in Anime that I've noticed. Really lackluster characters with girls just really into them for some unexplained reason.

 

At least that sexual assault type character from SnO isn't blushing and nearly choking on himself when someone notices him. Sheesh.

Ahaha. I don't hate the OST, I just don't find it all that engrossing. Mainly because my ears are subjected to really great OST's and the bar is constantly being raised.

 

I should go on record and say, I enjoyed Mirai Nikki until the plot twist.

Yes, that's what I meant, and I know that it's something they keep coming back to. I get why they did it, and the effect it has is quite profound. I just know when I originally read it I was quite... Yeah iono. I was in a state of shock when I first read it, which was quite a while back. Even as far as rape goes within stories that one hit me hard. After reading that scene I put the book down and couldn't read it for like a month. Thankfully my dad and a couple other people who loved the series convinced me to pick it back up by essentially talking to me about the effect that part had one the story but yeah, it's probably one of the single most shocking scenes I've seen in fiction. What made it so hard was how much you genuinely sympathized with Covenant.

 

But yeah, Thomas Covenant is an extremely well written series though, it's the kind that has deep meaning and themes which it takes seriously and tries to explore seriously. I have a lot of respect for it as a whole and would like to finish it one day.

 

I guess a lot of it comes back to that note he read at the start:

“A real man—real in all the ways that we recognize as real—finds himself suddenly abstracted from the world and deposited in a physical situation which could not possibly exist: sounds have aroma, smells have color and depth, sights have texture, touches have pitch and timbre. There he is informed by a disembodied voice that he has been brought to that place as a champion for his world. He must fight to the death in single combat against a champion from another world. If he is defeated, he will die, and his world—the real world—will be destroyed because it lacks the inner strength to survive.

The man refuses to believe that what he is told is true. He asserts that he is either dreaming or hallucinating, and declines to be put in the false position of fighting to the death where no "real" danger exists. He is implacable in his determination to disbelieve his apparent situation, and does not defend himself when he is attacked by the champion of the other world.

Heh actually dug out my copy of the first book to write that out. I'd like to have an in-depth discussion about the series on day when I finish the main books. I think you and I would have a good conversation on it Sim.

 

Thomas Covenant is one of the deeper books I've read regarding ethics and a whole bunch of other themes that I can't list at the moment since they're vague. But what I do remember is the most god damn beautiful prose I've ever had the experience of reading. Jesus can Stephen Donaldson describe a man masturbating  to snuff films and make it sound poetic.

 

When you're not slaving away in the plantations and earn your freedom through the Iron Price you might wanna get back to it again. That scene is shocking and I had to read it twice to reaffirm that it actually happened.

I had the sense to avoid listening to the music of VLR too much after certain parts that were just terrible, but I seem to have lost that sense.

Also Future Diary was good. I probably wouldn't like it as much now as when I watched it, but it was better than SAO lol.
