As to "anime isn't interesting"... Well, it is.
Aside the horrifying stuff mentioned above, I might as well be sure that you've not heard of Steins;Gate, Millenium Actress, Paranoia Agent, Kino no Tabi, Kemonozume, Noein, Ergo Proxy, Darker Than Black, Katanagatari, Tatami Galaxy, Mind Game, maybe even not of Baccano!, Paprika, Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Evangelion, Black Lagoon, .hack/SIGN, Escaflowne.
All well-praised and well-known anime, praised by adults who are fairly intellectual and not only into the usual hollywood blockbuster. Tho there's also anime of the latter type. There's everything really.
You're just not in on it.
Name an assortment of films you do like and someone'll find an anime that would fit your tastes, or at least come close.
Either that or you're culturally... reserved.

Generally, I find that if a person says that they are not interested in anime, then they will not be made to be interested. Anime really is an acquired taste, and it needs to be acquired early.
That's at least what I've noticed. People are either comic book fans, manga fans or the person who makes fun of the comic book and manga fans.

No way, I just looked at the images. I'm not entirely sure if I could get ban if I posted an image.

Made it to episode 9 of Clannad. I suppose due to what I've heard about the show and how long it is, that is just the tip of the feels iceberg, though I don't feel myself pulled into this one as much as other series. The humor is good, but it is a bit repetitive.

I heard that things get really good during season 2. Is season 1 required to get all of it, Clannad fans?

What's "early" though? I've been on MAL and heard people just getting into anime in their late teens or early 20s.The Mad Hanar wrote...

That's pretty much what I mean. High School.
For some reason that just seems to be the best time to get into it. That's when you'll "get it" the most.

It absolutely is, given the context of the second season.
