Usually, I go with the dub unless it's gouge your eardrums out bad. You miss all sorts of things while reading the subtitles. And S&W's dubs are pretty good.Also for Spice and Wolf Dub vs Sub? I've heard they're both quite good.

Not really. As long as they story is fairly decent. I mean, I've watched DBZ, but who hasn't? I've delved a LITTLE into Naruto simply because I was curious on what made it last so long..That's about it really.

Try watching Puella Magi Madoka Magica.
It's sort of like Sailor Moon but with a pretty interesting take on the setting.
And it's viewed by anime viewers with good taste as one of the best shows there is. Like right next to Cowboy Bebop.
It's also short at 12 episodes and a movie.

Yeah Angel gave you a pretty good list. Starting there would be wise.
If you watch Puella Magi Madoka Magica then remember to watch the third movie called "The Rebellion Story" aswell since it continues from where the 12 episode show end.
Otherwise Angel gave you some solid shows to give a watch. Might add Death Parade to that bunch! Durarara is also a worthy watch with an interesting story. Not to mention Baccano!

Play the Valkyria game if you actually want the experience. The anime on its own legs is "alright" but as an adaptation I'm feeling generous when calling it an abomination

Got into the anime first, then scored the game for cheap on Steam but got put off by some really, REALLY bad game design.

I rather have a few bad game design decisions than the murder they did on the characters personalities.
The two episodes I watched are called OVA and are 67 minutes in total (with beginning/closing/cast stuff).
Awesome story and characters... the animation was good, kinda like Season 5 Gintama and HxH.
