Haibane Renmei is pretty interesting.

So far it's reminding me of Aria but with a bit more of an ominous setting.

Good to watch if you need reminding that not all shows with angels are trash.

That's what I've heard aswell. Lots of great scores and comments about the show. Will hopefully get the chance to watch it sooner rather than later once my schedule clears up a bit.

This is why I hate talking about anime or games outside this forum.

 

I can empathise.

 

The other day I was talking to a buddy about FMAB after getting him to start that, and this other guy chimes in saying he'd watch anime too...

 

Except he 'doesn't like the art style'.

 

Baffling. I'd have pressed the issue, saying look at the last few anime I've been into, they're nothing alike visually: PMMM, FMAB, Kaiba, Kill la Kill, Chu2... Nuff said really.

 

But its the just same as with yours. Stupid conversation to begin with.

Ironically the friend who got me into anime has the worst taste I've ever had the displeasure of coming across.

 

I just didn't know at the time.

 

Lovely guy, but no way would I have a serious convo about anime with him.

 

And FMAB's art style is great. Every character looks unique and even with the Military uniforms Arakawa pulls off great design choices.

 

 

It's not as wacky or fun as Soul Eater's or even Hunter x Hunter's

 

But it still retains a sense of individuality amongst other shounen out there.

 

Never liked the 'art style' excuse tho'

 

Even if you have preferences and I'm sure everyone does because that's fine.

 

It's still a lame reason to put off what might be some amazing anime.

I just wished those strokes were fatal, we don't need a growing population of nervously jittering braindead plebs who don't know good anime from everyday mainstream conveyor belt productions.

Aria is one of these shows that almost anyone can enjoy on some level.

It's pretty different from the sort of shows you tend to gravitate towards though. It's one of the most peaceful, optimistic, lighthearted anime I've ever watched. So I don't know if you'd really like it. But at the very least, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't dislike it.

It's also a good show to watch in parallel of something else. It's pretty-good at counterbalancing more heartbreaking shows. It's also a pretty good watch late at night before going to bed. It's been described by one of the VAs as "Nothing really happens, but in a really good way." and I've seen more than once people commenting that they go to sleep while watching it.

If you ever get around to watching it, keep in mind that pretty much everyone consider the first season, Aria the Animation, to be the weakest part, with the series getting better as it progresses.


And yeah, Haibane Renmei is a really good one too. In terms of pace it can be a bit slow, with not much happening most of the time, so I can see where the comparison with Aria comes from. It's a bit darker though, but not heart-breaking.

That's how I watched the first two seasons of Aria. As a complement to another show and that has worked out well so far. Once I get the chance to dual-watch shows again the rest of Aria will be partnered with shows that got a reputation that Aria can work with.
