In general no.
Given that it's not a binary 0/1, it depends on a lot of factors - the overall character art style, just how big the eyes are, the other facial proportions, how well does the art stlye fit the narrative and the tone, etc..

I can't stop stare at the third one, that facePosted Image

Hmm, fair enough. I don't have any qualms with this outlook.

Ah good choice. I watched the original series back when it was originally released, still need to watch the the newer stuff released in the last few years... speaking of which can anyone in this thread tell me what I need to watch in all for that? So far I have only seen the original TV series and End of Evangelion.

Well the newer stuff for Evangelion are only movies which have really good animation, and they  "kind" of re-cap the TV series; but not exactly, after the second movie the story takes different route in the third movie, hell I wonder when the fourth movies comes out.

Cool, I will check out the movies then. I will start with the first one since I could probably use a recap after so long.

So I finished Puella Magi Madoka Magica the other day and took a few to let it sink in and to emotionally recover before poking around the topic. Oh man. Easily on my favorites list, no question about it. I don't know why I was ever worrying the ending might be a cop-out because just like the rest of the series, it was fantastic. I'm really looking forward til a good copy of Rebellion pops up and I'm pretty sure the massive amounts of information on the wiki will tide me over til then. :) Angel Beats! is going to be next up for sure. I just have to wait til my brain slides out of PMMM mode so that I can give it the proper emotional attention.

Isichar, I really hope you enjoy the Rebuild movies when you watch them. I hadn't watched the series since 2006 so the first movie playing the series mostly straight was helpful since my memory was pretty rusty when I watched the three of them last month. The upgraded Ramiel fight just made me roll all over the place with how amazing it was.

I'm on episode 8 of the after story. It seems to be staying on the same course as the first season, though it is upping the ante a little bit. Still not enough for me to "get it", but I am feeling less critical of this show.

///MINOR SPOILER///

Though they basically recycled the plot of the first season and just made it a bit sadder.

///END SPOILER///

Tell me, is it worth continuing or should I just move on to another anime?

I think it's an enjoyable show. There are animes better than it, but it has it's place. I'd say just watch until episode 22, and then decide if you want to continue. You don't have too far to go, so you don't have much to lose.

Minor spoilers

The first half of After Story is set immediately following Season 1 and continues on with the idea of them being at high school, however it shifts gears immediately after hitting the second half with showing everyone's lives after high school and how they're living as adults.

The post-high school section is what made Clannad stand above AIR and Kanon 2006 for me, it was brilliant and showed that an anime doesn't have to end after everyone graduates. The amount of character development throughout the series until this point and beyond was what compelled me to finish, my friend on the other hand enjoyed the high school part but didn't understand my praise until the adult section, though he did enjoy the show until that point.

It's probably why I'd consider it one of my favorites, however I was surprised when I saw it was rated so highly.

If you enjoy the high school part of the anime, I'd recommend continuing past it. If you can hardly stomach it, you can try to drag out until they're out of high school and living as adults where the show has an immediate tonal shift. If you really don't like the characters, I'd say to drop it.

I would say its one of my favorites, but truth is it is my favorite atm. The animation was some of the best I have seen (again I saw first 2 movies on bluray bigscreen tv and then the final movie in theaters so hard to compare to that) I loved the OST and the story completely blew me away in-part over how little I expected from it.

Its one of those shows thats fun to read up on after or even rewatch since theres a lot of subtle points that are easy to miss but add a lot to the story like when
Spoiler
another thing is all the runes you see in connected with the witches actually correspond with a letter in the alphabet, and spells out words and phrases in german connected to the witches they talk about, its fun to read up on what was being written in the Labrynths and such. A lot of effort was made by fans into translating the runes, and apparently Gen and other people who worked on the show were surprised when western fans managed to decode the runes before even hardcore japanese fans were able to.

Definitely let me know what you think of The Rebellion Story when you watch it. It really utilizes one of the tv series main strengths; screwing with what you expect to happen and messing with your feels.

So who are your favorite characters?

I really liked Evangelion when I first saw it, theres a ton of things I did not understand originally but it was stil worth checking out. Its kind of cool when you can take a few years, forget about something, come back and not only enjoy the original again, but also enjoy some new content. I want to see where they go with it since the ending for the series wasa pretty big deal back in the day.

Ah, so I see. They are actually moving past the high school (like David said) and moving into real life. That's actually very cool. This is the first time I've seen an anime do this, and I can definitely sense the tension that they are trying to build up. This show might just go beyond above average into something really good. If this show is going for what I think it's going for, then I'm about to be in for some serious drama and character development soon.

Well apparently the 4th movie is suppose to come out in 2015, orginally it was going to come out in 2013, so I hope  the final turns out well, but its Evangelion we're talking about so I don't expect a happy ending.

For each his own.

Tho I must say I enjoyed Clannad immensely. And not because I'm a fan of harem shows. Don't know a single one I'd enjoy.

Yet maybe I did really want a sad kinda introverted and melancholic romance show which brings itself to heights with a contrast to cool humor, at the time I watched. Plus, I'm not really a narrative-enjoying person. What happens as fact in anime/art/anything isn't as important as what's conveyed. Clannad seems harem in a narrative perspective only.

<3 Jun Maeda's music.

@Isichar: Sorry for not quoting properly but I'm on my phone right now and that's just a task. :P Those little details make me love the show even more. I've skimmed a bit of the wiki while trying hard to avoid Rebellion Story spoilers (and Tumblr makes that super difficult too) and just the amount of trivia and detail that went into the known witches just delights me. The cyphers and runes are fantastic and I'm curious to eventually look into it in detail.

As for my favorite character, that's actually a really tough question. I love each of the girls for various reasons because of how amazingly fleshed out they are. By the end of it, I felt for each one of them. Hell, I even love Kyubey. If I had to be pressed to choose though, I'd have to say Homura ends up as my favorite. Episodes 7, 8, 9 and 10 were probably the best parts of the series for me.

Aye, Homura is also probably my favorite too

Unrelated, but relevant to anime...

Any time I hear anime characters say they want to be in love forever, I always think of this.
