Just watched the new Chu2 episode. After a few weeks of nothing happening with the focus on the secondary characters we finally got some juicy content.

Between Chu2 and the new KLK I am in a pretty great mood right now :D

Also I watched the first episode of Another. I am pretty impressed with the animation and style in general.

(I suppose this is kind of a spoiler for KLK--)

It's official: Satsuki can't believe her little sister is this cute.

Was best show, now even more best.

Watched the first episode. I already like it better than the film, and the dub is far better and characters have personality.

Personally I would always recommend using subs instead of dubs. I can't give much opinion on the GitS:SAC dubs as the only time I ever even tried a GitS dub was from the original movie to hear a certain line from Batou ("bigass weapon") and never tried again, but what I do can say is the GitS voice acting, movies and series are on a flat-out SUPERB quality level.

I recommend you try watching the episode again subbed and then decide which one you like better. Especially Batou's and Motoko's seiyu are extraordinarily good in their voice acting and can convey emotional nuances very good (something that is especially important in Motoko's case because being rather stoic is part of her personality, making nuances very important in her characterization!).

I would if the English voice acting was unbearable, but because it isn't, I feel that the dub is fine. I've been told countless times outside and inside the internet that the subs are always better, most of the time I just assume its the typical 'nerd' behaviour you get.

Okay, I sound like a right ******, but let me explain what I mean.

Whenever there is a huge fanbase for something, such as, let's say, RPGs (since we can all relate to that) there is always a collective 'truth' to something, like "you aren't a real roleplayer if you haven't played Baldur's Gate 2" or "JRPGs aren't RPGs." The same goes with anime, I've found that there is the 'dub' and 'sub' division and those like me who stand in between.

The reason I haven't watched anything in subs for now is two fold.

One; I don't see the point when the voice acting is fine for the most part. Yes, you'll get one or two that are laughable, but then you have someone who steals the show like L in Death Note. His VA is the only reason you should watch that in dub.

Two; to appreciate good voice acting, I feel that you need to understand the language, or else it's just noise. The way to identify good VA is to hear how the line is worded, how the sentence is carried out, what tone they use etc... how can I do that when the sub is in a language I don't understand?

That's my reasoning, but, the moment I find that the English VA is unbearable I will find out if I'm being an idiot, or if I'm not.

As for the movie... well, Motoko was flat and boring, but the series does a lot to flesh her out and make her into a person. I enjoy her VA in the series, she reminds me from someone in Code Geass actually :-)

Plus, I have seen something in subs on youtube when I couldn't find the dub version of that clip. Is it just me, or is the translation too literal?

From "Hey there, how's it going?" to "Hello there, how is it going?" Maybe the subs change depending on where you watch it?

The subs change depending.

And hey, it's always cool to get acquainted with a new language. + emotions do carry through quite well even in *gasp* a language from a country afar.

As to subs vs dubs, I'd finally say that if you haven't really tried both you can't really compare and form an informed opinion on the matter. If you've watched both but prefer dubs I'd be much happier with your "it's just a nerd thing" comments.

Anyway,

Listen you pig in human clothing, Satsuki-sama is above all. Even her own mother. In all aspects. She even shines better. Ragyo's shine is overpowered, blinding. Satsuki's is just right. Just enough for you to know of her commanding presence but not harsh enough that you can't follow her.

This one understands lady Satsuki's greatness. To even question it is blasphemy.

Sorry!!! You don't have to look stuff in subs. Except, well, when there aren't any.

Nah, you weren't I realise when people are saying the truth, and you're right, I shouldn't shy away from it. I've heard a lot of good things about Attack on Titan so I think it'd be an excellent choice to start getting used to subs :-)

lol

I'll start watching several episodes of Samurai 7, Blade of the Immortal and Dragon Ball Z Abridged that I have after I finish Clone Wars season 5!

I watched one of the episodes of Legend of Korra and it was nice. I might watch some of LoK, One Piece and Gintama later...

@SimfamSP

Attack on titans is a good watch. Very intense action/story. Its one of those shows were things never really stop getting intense and building up.

I got myself into only watching subs after I realized just how many scenes in different animes are ruined by bad dubbing compared to how often they are made better. Many dubbers will actually change what is happening without you even realizing it. It also depends on whos dubbing/subbing but its pretty easy to destroy the context of a scene when translating, mind you this is still a potential problem with subs too.

Its the same reason I prefer many mangas over the anime counterparts. Sure the anime is usually more entertaining since the scenes are actually being played through, but the manga almost always has a more solid story which is usually what Im there for. Funny enough Attack on Titan is the rare exception that I actually like the anime better (except for Eren.... Manga Eren is way better then anime Eren imo)

Also subs are always released first, so thats a plus.

I'm still one of the heathens who prefer watching dubs over subs, I prefer a casual watch without much focus on paying attention to the subtitles. When I'm watching a subbed series, I'm forced to pay attention to my second monitor while drinking tea.
