Would *not* recommend the above. Too shonen and cliche stuff, not related to Hakusho in any way, in my opinion.

I'd recommend Hunter X Hunter (I'd say watch the original 99' version first tho). Or if in a humorous mood, Level E (one of the best gag/comedic anime I've seen in the 2010's). All of these are originally manga by Togashi. All of them great anime.
The new Hunter X Hunter, as said, has been (in my opinion crudely and needlessly) toned down. It's nothing in the vein of the sinister Berserk-like original. The original, being made in 99, could pull off more original style. The series has this eerie yet natural pacing to it, wonderful music, and dark art 'n character portrayal. In my opinion, it's exactly the version Togashi's "deconstruction" of shonen asks for.
And it needs to be said Togashi's stuff really gets going around the 10th episode mark. No judging based on a couple of episodes. His work mostly defies genres and demographics and all that...
Ah too shonen. I'll remember that one. I fail to see how they do not relate to one another though. The reason why it was toned down was due to the new censorship laws that was passed in the early 2000s for television shows. So now you either don't put too gory or pervy stuff in your shows or you have to add censors to entice viewers to buy the BDs.
From what I've seen Togashi's deconstruction in Hunter X Hunter is based on the goals that drive both the protagonists and the antagonists throughout the series. I don't see this happening in Yu Yu Hakasho or any deconstruction for that matter. The show set a bar that many shonen strive for, but that's about all I can really say for it. Level E is episodic for the most part and only 13 episodes long, waiting until episode 10 would be pointless.
If you want deconstruction anime here:
Great Teacher Onizuka (Redeeming the Students)
Puella Magi Madoka Magica (Magical Girl)
School Days (Harem)
But I was just posting fighting shonen, which had similarities to the show.

Just curious, did After Story manage to make you cry at all?

As a person who just doesn't cry that often, I didn't cry during the show. I'm not saying that as a super macho man; I just don't cry.
Was I absolutely soul crushed during some parts? Oooooh, yeah.
Masami's song in Angel Beats is honestly the closest I ever got to crying during an anime.

Its kind of funny for me, because right before the scene that did it in for me happened I was joking about that very same thing happening, and then when it started to happen I was kind of in shock, I never expected it to actually happen, not like that at least. Well its the 2nd story in any medium that I can remember that has managed to get me to tear up.
Frankly, I think the Masami episode was the best in that series. I found Yuzuru's story was pretty decent too.

My tears of joy moment is when this douchebag finally died.

That guy was the biggest pile of time wasting diarrhea I have ever experienced in any show ever, and I watched all of Baldr Force EXE Resolution.

I mostly forgot about him
To be fair, all the Espada turned out to be utter wastes of time, that was literally their only purpose to Aizen.

I thought Baraggan Louisenbairn was pretty awesome, especially after he transforms. He had an entertaining demise as well. He made way more sense as the strongest Espada then Yammy or Stark who got defeated with a Shikai form sword did.

Guess I'll watch it tomorrow.
Liked both seasons of the anime, endless eight notwithstanding. Even all the filler in the last (chronological) episode was strangely hypnotic and it seemed like a fitting end to a show that wasn't at all what I was expecting based on that dance that made the show so popular.

Fair enough.
I of course didn't mean the 10 episode mark to be anything binding really, it's certainly very relative to overall length. In Level E it took me 4 or 5 episodes to like the series, the other half to love it.
But really, I'm just hoping that the 1999 Hunter X Hunter gets picked up by more people. It's sadly less popular than the dragging-on type of, well, shonen.
Haven't the time to think of more original comments than "too shonen" atm. Sorry for that.

I'm inbetween Clannad and Paranoia Agent, but since I want to continue reading, I think a shorter one will do me good. But nevertheless, there about 50000000 animes all bookmarked for later viewing.
I will watching them
But it is not this day!
P.S I bought Death Note, the complete series in DVD just to show my mum. Ahh, it seems we have a new recruit in our midsts.
She loved it by episode 2
Just I as planned.
