What Ghost said. The show's actually really awesome. Great music, a good animation budget, and great action scenes.

And whether or not you like all the fan service, it's not the only thing the show has to offer.

I was gonna bring up the music. It really is awesome.

I was impressed at how they had a different ending theme for every episode. That was pretty cool.

Nope still a dumb series.=]

Look it has a good budget for it's animation and the music is "okay"(I would not call it great) but the bottom line is that it's a fan service series, a dumb fan service series. Fan service may not be the only thing it has but it's the main point to the series...  No I am wrong on that, it's the only point to the series. And then when you do look past the fan service you still have the horrible and dumb plot, characters and everything else.<_<

I mean Saeko is the "best female character" in the series yet that's not saying much because she still sets women back far too many years.:?

It's a really shallow series, so yeah the show is not awesome in anyway, it's just stupid.;)

I think you're always taking real-life implications into account (too much so). I for one watch anime as-is, for itself, and in a cultural perspective. In this sense even the worst fan service can have much "camp" or "as-if-parody" merit. Camp is pretty underrated in my opinion. :?

edit: though I haven't watched Highschool yet.

@ibbikiookami
I'd suggest Black Lagoon, Gurren Lagann, Darker Than Black, Baccano!, Katanagatari and GITS (starting from the 1995 movie).

edit: oh, and Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood.

After these, maybe Neon Genesis Evangelion, Paranoia Agent, Ergo Proxy, .hack/SIGN, FLCL.

I either watched or disliked most of the ones you recommended. I'll try Black Lagoon, never watched it.

By the way, Highschool of the dead is a great show about survival, that is if you get past all the awkward fanservice.

Oh I love camp, but it still needs to be good camp.;)

It's not me so much bringing real-life implications up, it's more me bringing up the points on why they are bad series or talking about what make a series bad.

Again fan service is not a problem, it's just the way this series uses it. It's used to sell the show in the most shallow way, it's not  used in a cute/funny way like it is in Lupin the 3rd or a Cutey Honey, it's used in a full on shallow way. Fan service is the only point to this manga/anime and it shows.

Highschool of the Dead makes for a really carppy "cultural perspective" of Japan and you will agree with me when you see it someday. Hell you will agree it's a sucky show.

And to end this post, Gurren Lagann is a campy series with some fan service here and there yet it's still a good series.

Definitely can see myself agreeing with you.
And I have to admit, the few minutes I've seen HSotD I wasn't really interested. Will give it a try at a later date.

@ookami
Which ones don't you like and for what reasons?
Fyi, I really am interested in your opinion.

By the way here are some pictures from Otakon of the Aya Hirano concert. When I say they are from Otakon, I really do mean they are from Otakon since no one was allowed to take pictures.

I started watching Another on RAGING_BULL's suggestion. The first Final Destination-esque death just happened. The show has a creepy atmosphere

This might sound as an odd request but bear with me...

Can anyone recommend anime with nice winter-scenes? I just adore them. In Persona: Trinity Soul, Clannad, Kanon, Vampire Knight and such shows the most - these have just the right silence-filled pacing that gives you the right winter scene in my opinion.

edit: Darker Than Black and 5 cm per second had pretty sweet winter scenes as well. And I'm probably not looking for anything with the more mild and colorful sceneries, not a show where the winter's a dull background, not Wolf's Rain, but rather ones where there's scenes where it feels as though winter has an intense, maybe unsettling-like feeling and role of its own. I tend to love that.

Just watched the second ep of Deadman Wonderland. And suffice to say I don't like it.

Originally, after I watched the first ep I thought it will somehow redeem its vastly non-believable story and characters. Well, in the seconds episode it got worse. Far worse.

Will there be a change to the character-depiction later-on? Will the series turn for better? Won't I be wasting my time watching farther into it, given my personal preferences?

Ah, Highschool of the Dead, eh? I read the manga and, despite the annoying fanservice (boobs larger than the character's head), I was quite intruiged by the story. Too bad I can't find good scanlations past the chapter 30 anywhere...Anyway, I don't know about the anime, might try it out when I got time.

Fyi, I really am interested in your opinion.

Of the ones I remember:
Hellsing - Too much Christianity influence (I think I'm psychologically allergic to it, jk), I just can't stand it.
Afro Samurai - Soul and hip hop music and American media influence.
Samurai Champloo - Anachronistic, predominantly hip-hop, setting.

I haven't watched most of the ones you mentioned except Darker Than Black, Katanagatari, Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood and Neon Genesis Evangelion. I started watching Black Lagoon yesterday.

By the way, you are the first person to call me ookami (wolf) on BSN. Most use ibbi which reminds me of ebi (shrimp)... I don't like it.

Note: ibbikiookami means lone wolf in Japanese.
