Well, I was going to watch Bakemonogatari next but I think I will finally get Steins:Gate off my list first. I literally know NOTHING about this series going into it... this should be fun.

I think that part could have been executed it a bit better. I know they did technically mention that it was possible with his powers beforehand, but its like it just happens at the worst freaking possible time it could have, and then almost immediately after it stops being a problem. Out of all the fake orders he gave her, that had to be the one he looks her in the eye right as its glitching out? Its certainly got to be one of the most unlucky things I've seen happen in an anime series.

 

I actually liked the tragic element of it, and how it effected the story overall... it almost made me sympathize with Suzaku.

I'm a day late on this one but god, I hated that part. It felt so contrived and forced, even by the anime's standards. Things are finally going well for the heroes and the world around them? Too bad! Plot device! That said, the shock value and drama that comes out almost pays for it. Almost.

Almost finished ''season'' 1 of Gintama ep 198, its a damn good anime, hell I still got 51 eps to go and a movie.

 

I just finished it yesterday.

 

The last few episodes are kinda "Meh".

 

Honestly, I feel Gintama should focus more on the side characters since the main trio is actually the least interesting of the bunch.

Plus, fights with Gin and incredibly formulaic.

 

 

Anyways in regards to FMA:B I constantly see it on top 10 lists, often in first place.

 

I'm one of those who prefer FMA to Brotherhood. The whole "Father" buissness was never interesting to me adn the bitersweet ending of FMA felt more appropriate.

In other news, it appears there some more Legend of Galactic Heroes stories. Odd, didn't find anything on Wikipedia about it and I watched the entire series (110 episodes), yet I stumbled upon some new (anime) stories. Mostly about Rainhard and Yang and the early days of their career.

One about Rainhards top secret mission to retreive a top-secret item from a defector.

one about Kirchies getting involed in a drug smugglign case during his vacation,

one about Yangs first days in the military and his investigation into the history/death of one of the alliances greatest heroes.

 

There's more.

FMAB was fantastic production wise but I didn't give a damn about half the plot, I preferred FMA's take on everything.

when they first made the anime to for FMA the manga was still ongoing, so they deviated away from the main story instead and came back later to make FMA:B after the manga finished which follows the main story more closely.

Is the original anime still worth watching despite most of it not being the main canon story? Surprisingly yes, it's a very solid watch but do expect the story to go in a completely different direction (the starting to FMA and FMA:B are pretty much the same.

You could probably skip like the first 10 episodes in FMA and not really miss anything, but for the most part it's different enough that it's worth checking out.

I would just find out when the stories started to deviate and go from there.

It's definitely worth checking out, eventually. It's just good to go in without any expectations based off of watching Brotherhood, which may be difficult right after watching it. Personally, I would wait a bit but still keep it on the list to watch.

I find FMA is kind of rare in terms of how the anime adaptation was handled. 99% of the time the anime catches up to the manga the pacing is cut in half or you get some disgusting fillers, even other stories that deviate away from the main story end up sucking. FMA may not be as good as the main story but it's so much more damned close then it would be for any other anime that has done this that its worth mentioning, IMO at least.

As for hellsing and ergo proxy I have not seen either myself, but I've heard good things about them both.

Your welcome to make a post about it here. I know several people here have watched the series, myself included. I'm actually in the middle of rewatching it slowly with a friend (currently on episode 15) so some of it is fresh in my mind, although admittedly some of the stuff later on I only remember vaguely so I don't know how well I could answer your questions. Just don't forget to put a spoiler tag if you do make a post here on it.

 

Can't say I know another forum that has much discussion for this series atm, I know crunchyroll has some posts in regards to it but I don't think theres much there. Sorry.

and yes, I really enjoyed it! it was the first one I watched because both you and eroeru recommended it. it definitely had a good story, had tons of moral implications, and had some romance too! much love to both of you for recommending that! it gets a solid 8/10 from me

1. ok so maria & mamoru's child dies because she kills kiroumaru, thus she dies from the death of shame... but why didnt she die when she initially annihilated kiroumaru's army? not really a question, more like pointing out a plot hole

 

2. was saki still head of the ethics committee after she killed squealer?

 

3. were all the events regarding shun's descent into "karmic-demonry" wiped from the characters' memory, or was just his identity?

 

4. what was up with the thing when kubarogi first met shun? they said something about their unconscious release of power, but i didnt know if this was about shun or kubarogi, and why it made kubarogi leave and shun drop his egg. this comes up again when the daughter kills kubarogi, they reference the unconscious release of power being the reason he died so quickly. not really sure on this one

 

5. who, if anyone, did you ship and why? i answer this question in the opinion part

5. both Isichar and eroeru said this show was really slow paced. i dont really think so, if anything i think the show tried to fit too much into 25 episodes. there were so many things floating around, it was just too much to cover in that amount of time and the show could have benefited from a couple more episodes.

 

6. * i shipped maria and saki. i didnt really ship anyone at first because i thought that the show would try to focus on events and not characters. i also didnt ship saki/maria at first because the show referenced that it wasnt ok with same sex couples (saki: "we are not animals" ep5) so i thought it was never going to happen. the show also treated same sex couples as this flippant adolescent thing that wasnt serious (shun uses satoru, and at first saki doesnt take maria seriously) that being said i really felt that the saki/maria relationship was the most heartfelt and genuine. it was really the only couple where i felt they actually loved each other.... i was so heartbroken when i learned maria was murdered... and then her daughter died...

 

7. imo the show was pretty much an examination of a society that is driven by fear. this is voiced by several characters regarding the policy towards children, and later when its revealed that the monster rats are humans that were mutated out of fear of retaliation. but i think the focus shift here was a little jarring. i got really invested in this show on characters and the main story. so when the show shifted focus from a story that pertained to the characters in a personal and moral way, i was a little shocked and disappointed. i would have been fine with the monster-rat/human dynamic and the moral issues that brought up, if that had been the focus of the show all along. there were some parts that alluded to it early on, but nothing serious and everything in the first 2/3 of the series pointed to the conflict continuing as it had, hopefully with a resolution.

 

8. and saki, who is the person i identified most with in the series, the idealist who makes some pretty powerful moral statements throughout is completely complacent about having a child in that society. given the things she has experienced, and that at one point she was the head of the ethics committee, i find this extremely hard to believe...

 

9. i was actually anticipating this to happen: maria comes back as an ogre, saki finds a way to help maria pyschologically, realizes that the murderous society is behind it/causes it/just switches sides, and they bring about a new era where you dont have to live in fear anymore and monster rats are treated as equals (this before i knew they were humans, because i mean come on, if you can talk you have rights)

Maybe something short like Ergo Proxy? Or Hellsing?

 

hmm what can I say about ergo proxy? ...its good, but there are times when you will be lost. too much of the plot depends on nuances and the outcome is that by the end you are actually understanding only about half of the material. don't get me wrong, its a good series, but not something that is really good. character development is minimal, the story (like I said) is iffy; but the world and premise are positives, as well as production quality (I watched online so I cant really say if that is really true)

and they use an insane plot device to resolve the story at the end so you are feeling something like what you felt if you played mass effect 3.... mad because you thought the series was better than this

 

overall deserves a 7/10

actually, since the anime is really the only insight I have into this universe, other perspectives on events from the novel/manga would be great! I have seen/read that the novel/anime/manga each deal with things in different ways. sadly though the novel isn't translated and I prefer to go to the source material

Saw a Shinsekai Yori post earlier. Yep the show is full of plot holes. But can someone tell me, what does: "The power of imagination is what changes everything." mean in the context of the show? Saki is far from imaginative, and just bumbles around half the time.
