What kind of anime are you in the mood for next?

Well I'm glad you asked. I want to watch some kind of parody show like Binbougami ga! Not talking to me? Well, tough noodles, I'm chiming in.

Watamote and Excel saga are the only parody animes I've seen tbh. I thought Watamote was great, some episodes had me cringing at the epic awkwardness. Couldn't really get into excel saga but it was amusing in its own way.

Ok, so it's been a while since someone here recommended I watch Sword of the Stranger,

So I just did. It was ok.

Loved the animation and the music.

I heard interesting things about Watamote. Might check that out after I catch up on Noragami and Nourin. And Nobunaga the Fool. Stopped on like episode 5 and forgot about them.

Haha I need to catch up on Noragami too ><

But yeah Watamote is great for a 13 episode anime. Its one of my favorite anime comedies. It was originally published by Square Enix too :o

The main character has my favorite voice I've heard in anime (japanese VA of course...) Its both really annoying and yet charming at the same time, it has so much character... I loved it.

@Clones

I've heard of that one before, so I should add it to my list then?

I guess.

I mean there's some weird plot elements that don't make alot of sense, but overall I enjoyed the film.

It's worth watching for the fight scenes. Very fluid animation and exceptional choreography.

No worries, I didn't take the comment as a serious complaint. When I think about it I actually watched a lot of animes as a kid so there's bound to be a few that would have completely slip out of my mind until they are mentioned. Its kind of cool in a way, I like how you can get a bunch of suggestions and still come across hidden gems that are exactly what you were looking for later on. It goes to show just how much anime is out there. I've been hardcore into anime for about 5ish months now and I still run across things I've never heard mentioned that when I watch or read I end up falling in love with. It really helps fuel the addiction when you can constantly keep finding so much that keeps you interested. My list of things to watch just keeps getting longer instead of shorter with each anime I watch [<<<<<<THIS!] (SimfamSP understands :pinched:) I would say its a good thing, assuming you enjoy the addiction as much as I do  :D

I agree, but it mostly does come down to opinion and preference. I like the creativity, I also like that many animes are capable of dealing with a lot mature themes better than I (usually) see in other mediums. I think every medium has had stories that could not have worked as effectively in another kind of medium. I get that anime just does not appeal to some peoples preferences, it also has a lot of its own tropes that can be really annoying and off putting.

@SimfamSP

To be fair your also cherry picking from a fairly extensive medium you didn't have much experience with previously. If you keep an eye on the animes that air each season, I would say there's just as much generic animes as there are TV shows. Ive watched a bunch of new ongoing shows but so far Kill La Kill was the only one that I loved in this last season. Its just like anything else, you get a few great titles each year but most of it is meh.

Thats one reason I'm happy I forgot about anime for so long and rediscovered it, I have no shortage of the good ones to keep me entertained now.

ok so maybe I just haven't watched enough, but what tropes are we talking about? I have watched about 7 shows now, and though they are scattered across genres I haven't really noticed anything...?

and I agree with what you said, I would say that my assessment applies to the run of the mill macro north american viewing audience, but when you get down to people that are willing to take the time to search the various mediums for things they like (like us) then yeah, preference definitely plays a role

totally agree with you post to simfamSP

I still have to watch book 2. I've been putting it off because a friend told me it was not that great though, and I trust his tastes.

I was really looking forward to LoK when it first came out, but the way they handled it just wasn't that great. book 2 is better than 1 in my opinion, but if your not a fan of the original (and i'm a diehard one) then neither book 1 nor book 2 (or any subsequent book, if they keep this up) would warrant a watch. but of course they have to live up to the expectations that they set so high when they did the original.

I finished Planetes and all I can say is this: it was absolutely beautiful. There is no other way I could sum it up. It's thrilling, psychological, philosophical, compelling, hilarious, touching, political, ethical and its science (from what I can see) is pretty great stuff.

It had to be great if I watched 25 episodes in one sitting. Ahh, the pleasures of a day completely off.

sounds absolutely perfect! officially bumped up on my watch list! thanks for inadvertently tipping me off to that simfamSP ;)

and when you say binge watching, you're not kidding...

Well for one you get a lot more fanservice in anime, and its generally considered more acceptable with younger boys/girls. No shortage of moe and lolita characters in anime. Plus I've seen so much "weird content" in anime that I don't even know where to begin. The Japanese are known for having some messed up stuff but they really tend to be creative about it.

I don't really mind for the most part. I had several mangas I read early on that managed to completely desensitize me to that sort of thing.

To be honest its animes like the one I'm watching now that terrify me, I swear this anime is going to destroy me. This is the first all nighter I have pulled in over a year, binging it and I can't stop :blink:

just googled moe and lolita, and I honestly almost got sick... so glad I haven't run across that. can't really say that I see 'fanservice' as something exclusive to anime though. I actually used the term in the context of video games before I started watching anime and found out that's where it came from. and every culture has messed up stuff, japan is just more open about it ;) ...though statutory rape is not something I tend to forgive...

I was wondering why you were online this early :D are you trying to finish chihayafuru or something different?

Chihayafuru, I won't finish it tonight, but I watched the first half of season 1 and a bit of season 2. I love and hate this show at the same time. I love it because the main characters are great and they expand on most of the side characters so well... Like Welcome to the NHK or the last 1/4 of Clannad well. But I hate it because I know the person I'm rooting for is forever friend zoned and not going to win in the end, and it disgusts me to root for a losing cause.

tonight? what, its not morning in your time zone? lol jk

if you are really that into it then I am tempted to start watching it today, but if the kanae-like character is the one that is doomed then im not really sure if I want to put myself through that right now :( I hate it when you ship someone, the show starts winding down and nothing has happened yet so you know nothing ever will...

too late, bookmarked the manga and anime online :P

so question, I feel really bad for reading manga that I like illegally online, is there some licensed website where I can buy a pass, or buy individual manga, and then download the english version onto my computer? I like to support the things that I enjoy, so that the people who made it can profit, and the industry gets the idea that yes this is a good idea we should do more of this

I love it when animes recognise that and make fun of it to no end. I just watched two episodes of the Melancholy of tu puta cabesa and right in the first episode they were taking the ****** out of moe xD

Oh, and SR1... yeah, I binge dude. I totally binge.

Especially on a Saturday, where after leg day you can't do much but sit on your arse and try not to cry.

and it disgusts me to root for a losing cause.

I feel the same way. My penis will forever be a losing cause when it comes to Mila Kunis naked in my home somewhere.

I finally got time to watch episodes 10 and 11 of KlK last night. Oh Nonon, keep being great. I know I mentioned the music before but there's two pieces I want to bring up. The music that plays whenever Satsuki's mom is around is just amazing and she herself I'm excited to find out more about. The other...

Spoiler

I'm getting the feeling this is where the show will shift tone, so excuse my silly squealy noises. I'll probably watch more tonight and will check back in. :3

The part bolded was my 2nd favorite moment in the series so far. I love how its just one twist after another and then they just drop that bombshell at the end.

Ragyos theme is the most epic theme in that show for sure. Blumenkranz is the song's name and it fits the show perfectly, its exactly the kind of song you would expect a diva to have XD And yeah, Nui's theme feels appropriately intense. The entire soundtrack is amazing overall, great variety. Its my one of my favorite anime soundtracks second only to you-know-what  ;)

I'm jealous, you got so much awesomeness ahead of you... that girl showing up is just the beginning of a **** storm that does not stop until the end. I only have the series finale to look forward to this Thursday but its bound to be epic and amazing.

@mhmbaSR1

Crunchyroll has a manga section, but its got a really limited selection atm tbh.

@Sim

Haruhi?

What order are you watching the show in?

Loved Okami-San, and now I can finally say this, but I've started Kill la Kill. Holy mother of Kamina it's great. Like, TTGL is why I got into anime, and KlK is like... a reminder. I'm only like 5 episodes in, but it's great.

On a Kill La Kill related note, did anyone else find Ragyos secretary, Hououmaru to be surprisingly lame in a show full of badass characters?

On a side note... I was just thinking to myself, who would win in a fight? Kerrigan from Starcraft: HotS or Ragyo from KLK? I actually thing that would be incredibly entertaining to watch.

You had me at Kerrigan, Isi. X3 Oh Queen of Blades... I was going to comment on Ragyo's theme when it first appeared, but its use in episode 11 really left such an oddly surreal effect on me that I figured it was time to finally mention how good it is.

As per usual, your comments on what's ahead of me for the series has me even more excited to see what happens next. It's just a shame that I usually have to wait til the house is fairly quiet before being able to actually enjoy the show, or I'd be binging it as we speak. :P I'll never be able to deny that I'm a massive Yuki Kajiura fangirl, I joked in my head about posting 'Uhhh... does everything Yuki's ever done count?' in the favorite anime music topic. With that being said, I'm more than likely going to grab KlK's soundtracks(s) cause Sawano has officially come under my 'Pay attention to their music!' radar.

They don't call it Kill La Hype for no reason ^_^

And yeah, the OST is definitely something I would consider buying.

On a Kill La Kill related note, yes. I've been waiting for Hououmaru to do something cool for months, but she never delivered. Hell of a letdown tbh.

On a side note, Kerrigan from Brood War would roll them both. In that one scripted event where she murdered Aldaris, her claws did like 500 damage. HotS Kerrigan and Ragyo wouldn't stand a chance.

They must not have clicked on her in the scene I mentioned. Numbers don't lie.

Alderis had 80 health and 300 shields. So a 1 shot is still more powerful then what she has in HotS I guess, but don't forget she has Apocalypse in HotS which can easily wipe out an entire army in 1 blow.

But overall I agree, Kerrigan would win :D

I still think it could be a fun fight to watch.

I just realized I know Ragyos VA from like 20 other animes.. Hanji Zoë from Attack on titan, Hitsugaya from Bleach, Edward Elric from both FMA series and thats just naming a few. Damn I'm impressed at her resume. Now that I think about it I can really hear the resemblence between them XD
