Speaking of KlK VAs, I got a ton of amusement to find out that Ryuko's VA also voiced Claes in Gunslinger Girl. Talk about incredibly different roles! Ragyo's VA I know from both Kaiba (which I haven't rambled about often here but I do recommend quite a bit. I absolutely love the visual style cause if you didn't know it was recent, they harkened back to the style of 70s anime so well) and Mawaru Penguindrum (which while not as dear to my heart as Utena, is still a series I adore and I was beyond happy to hear that Ikuhara was making a new series). The cast in general was another thing that really puts the series way up there for me. It might sound odd but there are definitely series where I don't feel the VA matches the character, but KlK's casting was just perfect.
On that note, as far as where I fall with subs vs dubs. It really all depends on quality for me, or what I watched first. Things like Utena, PMMM and Death Note I all watched subbed and it just feels awkward switching to the dubbed version. Now in the case of Utena... That's only vaguely excusable in the screwy dub production history (most of the cast didn't know the plot twists later in the series, so the first arc feels especially odd in hindsight), but even with that in mind I'll always prefer the original subbed version. Now Noir, that's one that I'll always watch dubbed because I feel the actors did an amazing job with it. I know I've said before that Tiffany Grant will always be Asuka for me, and her role in Noir is just as good, if not completely different.
