God they have Levi so wrong. They just thought "hey, he's a badass, so we should give him some tough guy voice." Nahhh, if anything I wanted the dude who voiced L to go for Levi.
So I collapsed to the temptation and watched Attack on Titan. I was reluctant because of the subs, but I said '**** it,' Though it was my friend who got me into anime with Death Note, it was through tumbrl that I actually had any notion of watching anything anime related because of KOP's freaking Attack of Titan reblogs.
I was f*cking stupid for holding back.
First off, the visuals. JESUS CHRIST it was beautiful. I've never been blown away by animation in my life until I saw the whole 3D Manual stunt stuff. So two thumbs up!
Now, off to the reason I REALLY loved this anime. It was a no b*llshit thing. The way they turned the Titans into a REAL threat was just so damned awesome. It kind of reminded me of PMMM, how the whole army was glorified, how everything looked hopeful for the future. Hell yeah! New recruits, new start. Humanity is gonna kick some ass!
Nope.
That was not it. And I'm glad of it. In the past, the 'bad guys' are always made out to be so powerful and impossible to beat. But in the end, the heroes just come in there, do their stuff, and it's like there wasn't anything to worry about. But this time? Hell no, this show is as brutal as GOT at times. Characters you think will survive end up ;pummelled and the raw emotion that goes into everybody's faces is really powerful stuff.
I can't wait for the dub to be released, I'll watch it again just for that. But I seriously hope they pick VAs who can pull off the emotional bits well. I'm not worried about the normal dialogue, but when characters in here scream in pain or in tears you really feel the stuff go through you. Kudos on the Japanese VAs to pull it off. So English VAs, if you don't do the EXACT SAME SCREAMS these Japanese dudes pull off flawlessly; if you don't convey the raw emotion in every f*cking tear shed and every limb severed...
Well funimation, I'll send Kempachi to kick your ass.
Sorry for the Bleach reference, my training partner gave me a lecture on him yesterday. Funnily enough he didn't like it. But then again, he showered praise over Guilty Crown like it was the coming of Allah or something and that turned out to be a flaming stream of mediocre p*ss
Yeah dude, Attack On Titan is pretty amazing if you can get past how gut wrenching it is to watch. As someone who gets emotionally invested in characters that was an effectively brutal watch.
Unfortunately you may be waiting a while for season 2, because the manga is not even a full seasons worth of content. But I can tell you that what is in the manga passed the anime is good. I thought things would start winding down for a bit after season 1, but it doesn't.. moments after the next arc begins things somehow even manage to get more and more tense, so look forward to it.
At least AoT is popular enough that your almost guaranteed a second season eventually.
Btw that entire arc with them in the academy at the start of the season was filler.. man thats pretty crazy, I would not have even noticed if I had not read the manga. This show has some of the best fillers in anime because I can't even tell its filler
I only really have 1 complain with the anime and thats how Eren's character is handled. For some reason they took his rational manga self and turned him into a complete psychopath in the anime. like when...
Spoiler
hes fighting with Annie near the end, he starts tearing her apart with his teeth and screaming about how hes going to destroy the world... completely added for dramatic effect. Manga Eren was thinking rationally that entire fight and was only trying to capture her.
I noticed the filler though, and that's because of the pacing. Yeah, if there is one thing I didn't like about the anime it's that. The pacing is kind of off. The whole Trost ordeal didn't have to take that long to finish.
But I'm glad it's very popular. I don't mind waiting for season two to come out as long as it doesn't take two Reaper cycles to come out.

Yeah the pacing is second only to Kill La Kill.
The manga is even more insane for pacing. Ton's of craziness can happen in just a few pages.

Glad to see I wasn't the only one who picked up on that
P.S
I loved how they show the collateral damage of everything they do. This would have made Code Geass and other animes that go on about war a LOT better. Though, to be fair, Code Geass did have its fair share of ethnic cleansing xD

Agreed, I like that the show actually thinks through many of the military aspects that get ignored in a lot of animes. Like the strategy for fighting Titans out in open fields was actually pretty cool, when they used that formation. Plus I like that you get reports that talk about how many people were lost, how many people are left in the army and such... It makes the stakes feel more real when you actually know the statistics.

Agreed, its why i liked UC gundam over any other in the vast franchise given that it usually felt like two different armies were clashing when they actually met.
A lot of animes, movies and books get the feel of it wrong.
They should have just gone with anyone in FMA:B or Ghost in the Shell for their freaking dub. Man, I'm just so disappointed at Levi's VA. But oh well, it's just a clip, perhaps the VA can do something outstanding with him.

The strange thing is you would think it would be standard practice for anything the revolves around the military, but often that's not where the stories focus is. It adds more then just flavor when you can understand from a logical point why certain strategic decisions are being made.
That one thing I like about Girls und Panzer is it seemed like it actually tried to handle the matches relatively realistically. I felt like I could follow the strategies and why they were being used.

Things will be so much simpler when you just stop watching dub
in this case he's naked, it's his best bro he's proposing to, and he doesn't actually know what he's talking about or what 'romance' really is.
So not quite your typical anime romance, I think...
...but on second thought, maybe it is.
Hey, the guy can do what he wants, right? xD
And yeah, that whole part of the expedition was done superbly, and yeah, they are really good with the details. Sometimes the brutality of war is just left for a scene or two and then it's all glory.
I'll just use Code Geass here for an example.
Spoiler
When Lelouch does his totally badass tirck and brings down the entire front line of Tokyo's defence the show never really bothers to show you just how many people must have killed. Though it speaks about it, it doesn't do anything to show you the cost. That's the whole advantage of a visual medium anyway, to give you in plain sight what it actually is.
This is why I liked the Yuffie scenario. Because of it, Lelouch learns a lot about the cost this war he's waged. He never really sees the collateral damage to anybody he truly cares about.
Again, I'd like to give kudos to the animators for facial expressions. This show has a lot of raw emotion into it. Like I said, it's really powerful stuff, especially when they break down into tears and scream. It doesn't feel forced or contrived. It's done really well.
I mean, c'mon, look at THIS FACE!
The guy needs a hair cut though. That bucket head annoys me.
Oh, and am I the only one who thought the Titans are kinda creepy and actually scary?
Things will be so much simpler when you just stop watching dub
Not as long as there is a chance for L to come up anywhere
Also Colonel Mustang. That guy is the manliest of men in any anime I've seen so far.
Of course the Titans are scary and creepy. They are 15 meter tall, unstoppable, naked, death machines. Plus they got that uncanny valley feel going for them.
If theres one emotion Attack on Titan knows how to handle perfectly in its characters... its fear.
And yeah, FMA is one of the few dubs I'm aware of that's actually pretty good. Too bad more dubs don't have as high standards.
The whole tall thing doesn't bother me. I mean, I watched Jurassic Park when I was 4 years old (or was I younger?) And cheered for the T-Rex (funny enough, all the others were scared sh*tless of the film.)
It's their faces. Dude, they just look so creepy and when they grin...
*shivers*
Now I'm at a loss of what to watch next. My anime buddy insist on Kiss x Sis for the giggles, but I'm not in the mood for some hilarious semi-hentai crap. It's only 9 episodes though... -.-
OH! And it just occurred to me. Wouldn't an Attack on Titan themed ride at some amusement park be awesome? Like one of those simulator thingies where you go on a 3D Manual thing chased by Titans.

Here is a perfect example.
The setting Earth's orbit, the premise after dropping a colony successfully into a orbit that will impact North America the survivors of the Armada that deliver it there attempt a retreating action through the Federation's picket and due to their own lack of naval support they are all rapidly cut down, there isn't anything merciful, forgiving or hesitant about it. There really isn't a tactical premise more then mass fire being overly effective.
Its an Armada cutting a reduced force into fragments and obliterating it, although a scant handful of survivors do actually make it to a nearby allied fleet and escape, but for the most part? They all die.
I might watch that one next, Z. Can it watched on its own or is it a sequel? The most logical thing to go for next would be Legend of Galactic heroes next. But I'm waiting for the holidays so I can binge through that in a week.

Its a sequel to 0079 but...eh it sort of could be watched on its own if you knew the premise of the war it was occurring after.
0083 Trailer
Excellent series and its the prequel to Zeta gundam.
It also introduces a bunch of Zeon characters i love
/Salutes/
Not gone, and never forgotten, merely marching far away- Traditional Mandolorian Funeral Prayer.
I think Ragyo was right when she said that the life fibers would come back for Earth. After all, Revocs isn't the only amoral megacorporation existing in the Kill La Kill universe willing to give a leg up to hostile alien lifeforms.
Not sure if you mean Wayland corp, or Instant Noodle?
I'm like that too. I wash my hands every 30 minutes or so xD
*sigh*
I think I'd actually be gay if there were dudes like L, Levi and Akise Aru xD
Well, bisexual really, because damn is Revy still the hottest piece of anime ass I've seen.
As for Mikasa, I like her. There's a lot more to her than meets the eye. I think she really clicked with me when she broke down at that scene where you thought that dude was dead but then he wasn't in that place over there beside Littlefinger's Brothel underneath the Christmas Tree and down the highway to Macon.
