The creator had originally planned for a bad end.

Thank God he changed his mind.

A sad ending might have been appropriate, but to be honest, sad endings don't really do it for me. Well, by that, I mean endings that completely destroy the accomplishments of any character. It just feels like all you've gone through was for nothing because they lost. So an ending which saw to it that everybody died and that all efforts were in vain is really awesome; personally it wouldn't do it for me at all. At least, it would certainly destroy any hopes for rewatching/reading the series again.

Even so...

Objectively I can appreciate it since its setting is bleak as all hell. Bittersweet is where I like to see these things go. Yeah, maybe they did lose, but perhaps there's some hope that they can continue? Stuff like that.

I could just see Martin going excellent if he read AoT at the forest scene.

I think a bittersweet ending would fit AoT very well, something very happy would just be waaaaaaaaay to jarring. Also Armin doing the narrating could also mean something.

Looking through G.R.R Martin memes I saw one comparing him to a guy named Steven Erikson... apparently he's worse, and he writes fantasy.

I know it's really off topic here, but would you guys recommend him?

Yeah, as much as I love happy endings when they happen... for AoT? No. On the spot I'd probably cheer, but then in hindsight I'd say "naahhh." Kind of like how Clannad After Story ended.

To this day I still cry like a b*tch in the end, but a more bittersweet tale would have been far more in line with what they were doing.

Spoiler

However, good thing that whilst watching my emotions get the better of me and I end up crying like a maniac. Trust me bros. When I say cry I MEAN cry.

I think the first time I rolled of my bed and started laughing/wailing. So yeah, f*ck logic and analysis. When a story can get you that invested and emotional it deserves any praise it gets.

Speaking of bittersweet ends, I just watched the first few episodes of Second Barrage with the Romanian twins. Damn.

Actually I don't know if there's any 'sweet' there. Just more damn.

Pshhhh you wuss, After Story was not that emotional.

I only cried for like... 20 minutes... And anytime I've heard the Dango song in full since...

But I admit, I'm a rather jaded individual.

I can't even remember where I got my PMMM background from but I love it. It's fairly simplistic all things considered but I'll see if I can find a link to it in a moment when I'm at my pc. Much like Isi, I'm going to behave and not post any of the 54,968 other fanarts I've seen in my travels. :P

ETA: Found it! Like I said, it's super simplistic but I love it for that since I have my little thing for either full on or quasi-silhouettes.

I'm genuinely surprised to say I have not seen that one yet. I like it! I've seen quite a few pictures and wallpapers done up in that style for individual characters but not one of the entire group.

Adding it to my collection

Thank God he changed his mind.

If the popularity of a work changes the writer's vision of what he intended, I dislike it immensely. I'm just reading to find out what's in the damn basement and then I'm probably going to drop it.

Unrelated: Kara No Kyoukai worth watching? Friend has the series and I'm wondering if it's worth borrowing.

I heard the creator was changing the ending of the series because of the popularity, I don't think that's why he scrapped the idea to kill Sasha, could be wrong though.

I sort of agree with you Dave, that's mainly why I prefer to stick to short and more condensed series. Those sort of have to know where they are going. The thing is longer stories change all the time well it is in the process of being made/written, still if they try and just winging it then its easy to botch the execution.

Then you get stories like Berserk which just never intend to finish at all.

I was just thinking, do they still change the OPs in dubs now (thinking about that "Rock the Dragon")? That would be the biggest possible travesty for the Attack on Titan dub, bar none.

Who says he changed the stories ending because of popularity? It can still be a dark ending that makes the fanbase cry in their pillows. The only thing that popularity did change was Sasha surviving which is not rare at all in stories, however I can bet you he will kill off a character to fill the quota in her place which writers normally do when this happens.

They screwed up Levis voice, it's already a travesty.

Hey now, I didn't say that was a travesty. Changing either of Attack on Titan's OPs would be though.

I don't have a strong opinion about any of the dub voices. They're alright.

Like most Yuki Kajiura's works, it's worth watching it just for the soundtrack.

I would recommend it.

It would be heresy of the worst kind. One does not simply change the AoT OP songs!

For the record, Isayama did not scrap the idea to kill off Sasha because of popularity. He simply changed his mind himself.

This was waaay before the anime.
