The big issue is the dialog change. It not only changes the mood now but the character. Levi, as created by Hajime Isayama would not say that stuff. This is funimation Levi, not the Levi we all know and love.

Rather glad I decided to avoid the dub, I don't want to destroy my image of Levi T__T

Damn...Spice and Wolf kinda just...stops.

 

Got to say it got me pretty invested for a show that was so much about talking and economics.

So...

 

I kinda watched all of Puella Magi Madoka Magica in one sitting last night.  My spoiler filled impressions are below.

So, I think I'm incredibly lucky in that I knew absolutely nothing about this show before starting except that it was popular, and it was an interesting take on the magical girl genre.  So I got to see it completely unspoiled, and man am I grateful for that.

 

I started watching on a whim simply because it kept coming up in other discussions, and coming off Kill la Kill, I was willing to give it a chance even though all the promotional art indicated it would not be my type of show.  At first it met my expectations, typical magical girl series but with a psychotropic twist.  Cool, but nothing to write home about.

 

And then episode 3 happened.

 

To say I didn't see that or what the rest of the series had coming would be an understatement.  Mami getting killed off for real, Sayaka becoming a witch, Kyubey being an exploitative alien mastermind...it was kinda overwhelming how quickly things went from "magical" to real.  The one thing I appreciate in shows that don't hold back like this is when death isn't cheap.  Madoka trying to bring back Sayaka through friendship and love was heartbreaking to watch, but I'm glad they stuck to their guns.

 

I personally really liked Homura's time travel to change the inevitable arc, but I'm a sucker for time travel and alternate timelines in stories (Primer is one of my favorite movies...I made graphs and everything.)

 

Overall I really, REALLY liked the show.  And the best part is that I did not see it coming at all.  I also liked the ending, things have changed, yet they stayed the same.  I think it worked incredibly well.

 

Being a latecomer to the series and having just finished it (completely unspoiled), this might be an inflated impression, but I feel comfortable giving PMMM a 10/10 at this moment.  What a great and surprising show. I am genuinely impressed with what it accomplished

Walking into this series blind is definitely the best way to get the most out of this show.

It should probably come as no surprise after the mini-book posts I have being writing on the series but it's easily my all time favourite anime.

Have you watched the Rebellion Story yet? It's a movie sequel to the TV series.

Its very rare that one gets to watch a show that is a few years old without any spoilers, so yes it was quite the experience.  I really can't think of any show I would rank higher than it at the moment.

 

I have not seen the movie, is that where I should head next in the series?

Out of curiosity, is there any place like CrunchyRoll that is streaming the movie, or do I have to acquire it by other means?

 

EDIT: Also the only one that is a sequel is Rebellion right?  The others are just movie versions of the series?
