Out of curiosity, is there any place like CrunchyRoll that is streaming the movie, or do I have to acquire it by other means?

EDIT: Also the only one that is a sequel is Rebellion right? The others are just movie versions of the series?

I'm not aware of any other sites unfortunately. TRS was just released on DVD so you either got to order it or use other means. I just downloaded a copy well I wait for my limited edition Blu ray copy to come in the mail *drools*

And yeah, there's 3 movies, the first 2 are just a recap of the TV series, TRS is the only one you need to worry about watching.

Absolutely no worries as far as the potential for sloppiness goes! As of right now I've broken down my thoughts by movie and closer to the end of each chunk, it kind of starts to just trail off into sfgaufgiafa instead of being properly coherent. Now, back to reading for me and I'll spend the time between my usual day to day stuffs pondering the proper reply.

 

Before I edit this to share my proper feelings on your response, asgaifsgiugfiuasfa that fanart. Yes. Once I'm done drafting my response I'll say that some of it may seem like quick answers but when that happens, I'll merely say that it's something I go into detail more regarding my own notes.

Apologies Puddikoma. Like I mentioned pages back, conversing on things that mean the world to me is something I get a lot of happiness from and PMMM pretty much saved me from a very dark time in my life (almost a hilarious concept, considering the subject matter) so being able to focus and converse on it is a good mental center for me.

Now for my responses on Isi's notes:

Mami:

One of the things I found fascinating during my time prancing around the wiki is the fact that in the original series run, Mami's room wasn't all that decorated and it wasn't until the home video release that they decided to redo the scenes and give her a more lavish living arrangement. In some ways I prefer the original idea because it serves as an off the cuff hint about her own loneliness. It ties back around to the idea that in some cases with depression, the person suffering doesn't care enough to have the little sentimental things around them as decoration.

It took me watching the tea scene multiple times to notice the ribbon myself and once I did, I had to rewind it to make sure I wasn't seeing things!

One of the things I really like about the Mami vs Homura fight is that it's yet another thing we almost got in the series but it was broken up before they came to blows. It's subtle enough in that both girls aren't specifically attempting to kill each other (though for a moment, Homura almost brings it that way but stops herself. Heat of the moment type adrenaline one could figure, before she snaps out of it and corrects where the bullet goes).

I too really appreciate Nagisa's existence in TRS. In some ways I feel that it helps to explain why Mami is able to create the ribbon doppelganger we see in her fight with Homura. Series Mami is crippled by loneliness even if she keeps a tough face on. She loses to Charlotte because of the rush of feeling like she finally has a proper friend, and it makes her sloppy. Elation and joy can do that real easily. Now throw it to the TRS verse where she's been with Bebe for years now. Even if she still breaks down (she's only human after-all), she has someone to vent these feelings to and I'm sure that helps in her ability to fight without a burden.

I share the same favorite Mami moment as well.

Sayaka:

Most of this is covered in my own notes because I tend to talk about her a lot since her character arc is important to me. The Hitomi familiars in one timeline of 10 always make me laugh a bit because it makes me wonder if that's some sort of way of Oktavia taking control of one of the people that helped bring about her despair. I'll definitely be looking over the points on that link in a moment because from what I've skimmed, it seems fascinating and I always appreciate getting new information or interpreting scenes differently.

Favorite moment: Uhhh. A lot. I bring up most of them in my own notes.

Kyouko:

We've covered the majority of my thoughts on Kyouko in saying that she is a perfect foil for Sayaka. Even with the rewatch it amused me in that her first few scenes you're pretty much made to dislike her and then slowly once the pieces fall into place about her past, you're made to rethink those feelings and understand why she is as she is. I've actually been meaning to read a Different Story because of it giving more background for both her and Mami. Knowing of their mentor and student relationship makes her dialogue asking if Mami told them about something specific to being a magical girl make that much more sense.

Favorite moment: Oktavia fight. Easily. So much about this in my notes.

Madoka:

I go a bit more about her role in my own notes near the end of the Eternal Story but I will say this. I love the fact that up til 10, we're left going 'Umm. When are you going to transform like we see in the opening?' Oh, you'll get that answer... Painfully so.

I will say that as much as I do grumble about chunks of the fandom, you're entirely right in that I love the fact that Gen appreciates dragging everyone through hell. My kind of writer really. Likewise I do a bit of both myself, especially with the new opening used in both TBS and TES. The way is completely paved to lure in folks expecting a potentially sunshine yuri magical girl series and nope. Have fun getting your heart stepped all over. I love it, I really do.

Favorite moment: I might sound like a horrible person when I say this but it's the mercy kill scene between her and Homura. So many branches off from that scene, solidifying Homura's driven nature after having to kill the person she loves and it gives us a moment of Madoka 'making a mistake for her' (as Junko says, so much about that in my notes) with lying about having a grief seed.

Homura:

Favorite scene? Between my avatar and signature, I'm pretty sure there's no question at this point. Second is definitely the Walpurgis battle of the last timeline as I ramble about in my own re-watch notes.

Chairs and eyes. It's a thing and I still haven't made up my mind if they're there for purpose or just to make us think they are. Hooray for red herrings!

The city population is something that's always made me go huh, or lack there of really. In a sense I kind of wonder if it is supposed to tie into the fact that in the majority of the timelines, the girls' actions (and deaths) will go completely unnoticed by most people and that being a magical girl is mostly a thankless job.

Homura's family is something I've been wondering on too. It could have created an interesting parallel to see the Kaname family and how they interact as well as the Akemi family. With a daughter that has some serious health issues til she fixes them through magic, you'd think we'd at least *see* them...

Is it possible they'll change the voice for Levi? I'm sure we're not the only ones who are facepalming? I'm only assuming this because I have no idea how the dub industry really works, especially with funimation.

Not really been following the dub, but I am gong to take a guess and say they have already done all the episodes or if not they have done most of them.

 

If Mercer got sick or died or something like that, yeah they would have to change it. I have only see some fanboys and dub haters make a big deal about Levi's voice. Not enough for them to change it, more so after all the work they have already done.

 

I still don't have much of an opinion about Mercer as Levi, we only have one clip of him. So far his voice is very much Levi, and I don't mean Japanese anime Levi, I mean manga Levi. The changes to the script are meh so far but I want to see the rest of it before I make my opinion, good thing it's going to be on Toonami in May.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

But still Levi in my head is waaaaaaay better than Mercer and Kamiya, I know that at least.

It's a pretty good series, not the best one out right now in my view but still better than most newer series.

Where did you see it? In theaters? Perhaps during a Japanese animation festival? (I'm asking because just yesterday Valley of the Wind got airtime in a local theater around here. Too much of a coincidence to follow you watched it here, but I ask nontheless.

 

But this time, it was rubbish - luckily I got in free, otherwise I would have been pretty much angry and wanted a refund. *It was dubbbed*. Not only in English, but the English was overdubbed by my native language. That's a damn flop, as it was advertised as with original audio! Nothing left of the original. I left as soon as I heard first couple of lines. :/

 

Imagine going to see a movie by your favorite American or English director, which is advertised as being in original form, i.e. in English. Now you arrive to the cinema, and what do you get? A Russian dub, with a German (or your local, if local language is not German nor English) dub over it.

Or that you'd see a movie from your non-English home country. And it got the same treatment yet vice versa. Russian dub with an English overdub.

 

Dubs suck is what I'm saying. They're only good for stuff for kids who can't read. /snobbb

Nah, I just streamed it with the original English dub. I could have watched the subbed version, but then I would have missed out on listening to Shia LaBeouf's voice.

And in other news - started watching Jiregemund.

 

Whoever thought the structure of the firt 2-3 epsiodes was good is an idiot. It's just so ...icoherent. Thrown around, with tons of character appearing you know nothing about and LOTS of half-flashbacks.

Other than that, and the design of some of the characters (red eyes, white heaired boy, blue eyes lead chick...and what's with every women spouting that silly puted mouth/grin?) and the child super-soldier (killed an entire base? Really?) it seems decent enough. Am only a few episodes in tough.

So I saw the first episode of Kill La Kill, shouldn't have put it off for this long. Has some of the best 3D effects I've seen in an anime, very absurdist, but great absurdist Not sure what else to say on the subject, besides how nuts it is. At least on the visual side, KLK is top notch.
