I don't understand that specific complaint.

The art style may be old fashioned, but in no way have I seen it bad.

 

What's there to not understand?

 

Take a good look.

The line tracing is all over the place (most often visible in the arms) and the animation often consists of 5 frames.

You can say that is deliberate and part of it's "charm", but it really doesn't matter. I can take a dump and I can take a dump on a piece of paper for "artistic reasons" and display it. It still stinks the same.

See, this has 0 to do with how much you enjoy KLK.

Just the art/animation quality. And that really isn't that subjective.

I love this game. But you don't see me going around saying it has amazing, modern graphics, now do you?

 

So maybe some detachment is necessary, not blind defense of whatever you like.

The "I like it therefore it cannot have any flaws and any criticism is wrong" mentality is tiresome.

And if you mean Nui or Mako, or any of the funny or joking moments, that is to increase the feeling of that scene.

 

Nui on screen skating around, her creepy/glorious theme in the back ground? Same reason the creator of Courage the Cowardly Dog used Clamation and 3D rendering for some scenes. To give it some disconnect or uncanny valley creep factor.

 

Mako giving one of her rants? Used to extenuate the randomness you are seeing.

 

Any other time is because that part of the scene is not what you are supposed to be focused on, or is because Mankanshoku Family, which are treated the same as Mako.

 

And trust me, Kill la Kill has it's flaws.

1. General ignoring of Inumuta after his battle with Ryuko(this guy was supposed to be as much of a character as the rest of the E4, but just stopped being usefull)
2. Nui's end feels rushed and anti-climactic in a bad way
3. How the S.S. Naked Sun could cut Life Fibers(technically a nitpick)
4. Tsumugu's side plot just gets dropped, as well as why he is special enough for his own DTR design

Eh, I'm bored with this conversation as neither of us is going to understand where the other is coming from, or any of their counter arguments.

 

We may talk about some other anime, but I'm done talking about Kill la Kill with you, just ends in a brick wall with you standing on the other side throwing eggs at me through a window.

Unless you think that loving something for it's strengths despite it having flaws somehow lowers/demeans you as a person.

The line of thinking "I love it therefore it doesn't have any flaws (or at least flaws that matter)" is the reasoning for children and blinded fanboys.

 

There isn't a single game, movie or anime that I like that I couldn't present with a list of flaws. Sometimes long lists.

Nor is there any I would rate higher than 9/10 (and even that is rare) simply because I accept that fact.

 

That thing I like? It's mediocre at best. Crappy writing at places, characters can act like retards, some scenes have horrible perspective or art style. And I still like it.

So what?

Why is it so hard to accept that?

Because I'm perfectly willing and have done that before with it.

I just don't find enjoyment in the bad, so I don't make a little note of how it happens. I'm well aware of general flaws in everything, but I'm more interested in why I like something, not why, in your opinion, hate it.

Here I thought "doesn't have any flaws (that matter to me)" was just the reasoning of someone who doesn't have a stick up their ass.

 

"These flaws don't matter to me" (but are still there) and "these flaws don't matter at all, and their existence is objectively irrelevant" are two different things.

 

After all, the fact that the breaks on the car do not work might not matter to me, but claiming that objectively the car works fine is ridiculous. It's less of a case of a stick up ones ass, and more of a case of denying/ignoring reality to validate ones own opinion.
