DBZ and Gintama. Like 1/3 of DBZ episodes are at the level of excellent, but Gintama is far better. Like 4/5 of its episodes are excellent and only 1/10 of its episodes might be considered as mediocre. I've just Started Season 2 and it's very amusing.

Finished Kill La Kill with my early weekend.

 

Not much to say past that. I was briefly touched by the passing of the favorite clothing character of the year, but not much else past that. I must not have a soul.

 

I will say (again) that I definitely appreciate how the 4 Devas were significant characters in their own right. They, and Nudist Beach, were my favorite part of the series. The use of clothing-aliens was unique as well- I admit I was half expecting the main character to just appeal to the clothes to not be evil in a sort of 'clothes want to be worn by, not devour, their humans', but maybe that was too silly?

 

Still, Matoi deserves to go down with other other good shounen protagonists. Hooray, female shounen protagonists- they're a rare breed.

Watched episode 3 of Akuma No Riddle. It definitely not disappointing me at all. Finally got a bit of action going this episode which was nice.

Seeing as Aniplex are the ones who are doing the NA release of the DVD at the end of the year, if it does come with dub(Gurren Laggan did afterall) it will be Aniplex doing the dubbing, which if Gurren Lagann is to go by, the dub will be pretty decent with some characters even being better then sub. Though seeing as alot of the old dubbers that where good now just do video games I doubt it.

2. I am really, really hoping for a sequel or something of the like

 

and even though I like a good happy ending, I love any other type of emotional ending that isn't happy/cliché. I mean there are times when all I want is for everything to end happily, but then there are times where I'm like "no, that shouldn't happen" example being mass effect 3 (plot holes aside) I was fine with shepard dying

so yeah, bring on the endings that make you feel hollow and/ cry!

 

4. hmm... ok I am going to cave and say that homura still loves madoka and that it is just corrupted (farther in my rewatch), and agree on the duality thing. actually sat down and did some analysis of love in the context of the show, and came to a somewhat similar conclusion as you. i blame being too emotionally invested in the story and not having enough distance. i did, after all, make my first response post literally within 2 hours of having watched it

 

that said, since I am farther in my rewatch I will re-state that I think there is love (as in red-ribbon/soul-mates love *cough*) floating around in this series. there may never be a kiss or a moment when they confess in the conventional sense, but whenever I talk about love, I always talk about platonic love (love isn't just platonic admittedly but I think it is the most powerful kind). so for me, i see it in the series, and i can personally relate. these situations could definitely be taken both ways though, and its all about mindset in the end, but when you sit down and do an analysis of the imagery and themes in the show, i think that is where you really start to get the feeling that there is love. but i am a hopeless romantic (in both senses) so, hey

 

5. did madoka say that she didn't want to sacrifice herself, or thought she wouldn't be able to? because im pretty sure she said that she wouldn't be able to, but also said that she would do anything to protect her family/friends. and i think we can both agree that homura did not push past her suffering

i always feel terrible after you respond to my posts, because i feel like you took it the wrong way or i didn't express myself well enough. i can't count the number of times where i have been like "no isichar, i meant something totally different!" and that's probably my fault and then i get sidetracked responding to what you thought i meant, and never really go back to what i really meant

i am almost done with the series rewatch, and i will probably rewatch rebellion sometime soon. when that time comes i will type up a book and post it here. lately though i have been reading a lot of manga, since watching pmmm just means that i won't be able to go to sleep

 

on a side note, there are some really, really ****ed interpretations of pmmm, *shudders*

 

speaking of which i was reading a manga the other day that was (i kid you not) left to right and i didn't know this for like 10 pages, and was wondering what the heck was going on

 

and simfam has read lord of the rings! so awesome, since most of my friends make it through all of 20 pages and don't understand a thing

2. You see what you don't understand is that this was a *HAPPY* ending by Gen Urobuchi's standards. Sure it was not as uplifting as the TV series, but there was quite a few good aspects of it as well. I'm trying to warn you, if there is a sequel, don't necessarily expect things to get better or you could end up sorely disappointed >_<

 

Gen makes his living on making you feel hollow inside, I like the contrast between his sick mind and the usually innocent magical girl genre. If you watch his other stuff you will notice how much he loves bittersweet with larger emphasis on the bitter. I kind of like him because you don't get those straightforward happy endings you typically expect, his stories usually stay true to the themes even when it means screwing with the audiences expectations.

 

I admit I'm a bit of a hypocrite in that I would have liked a straightforward happy ending for Homura, but I still think what they did end up doing left a much larger message as a result. That's one thing that interested me about the ending to ME3, well I thought the original ending was complete rubbish tbh, I felt the conversations that were generated because of it and how it managed to make people like myself psychoanalyze the series in a way I may not have otherwise sort of made things worth it, although the difference between ME3 and TRS in that sense is I personally felt TRS nailed the ending perfectly (that's just me though :3)

 

4. I was emotionally crushed for about a month after watching it. I loved it in so many ways but I was like "Why Gen?! Why do you betray my feelings like this?! :crying:" as he laughed and fed on my delicious tears like the sick bastard he is. I did initially like it but it took me a while to get past that soul crushing void it left. As of now I've become one of the biggest TRS fanboys out there

 

Love is a tricky thing to define since it can mean different things depending on who's using the word and the context of the situation. I think how you decide to classify Homura's feelings is just one of those things that is open to debate and I really don't think there's any one correct viewpoint on the matter. I recall even the VA as describing Homura's feelings for Madoka as being something "Scary"

 

I'm a bit of a hopeless romantic myself btw Which is in large part why I have so much love for Sayaka's character.

And yes, I would say Homura accepted her suffering rather then pushed past it, so yeah I think we can agree there.

 

Don't feel bad. There are plenty of times were I feel I have not described myself remotely well or when my gushing gets in the way of trying to remain objective. I don't think I mistook what you said quite as you probably think tbh. There were many of my points that was more my opinion on something rather then a direct response to what you were asking, and I think I did a poor job of making that clear on a few parts, which you can chalk up to my inability not to gush over the series on many points that it should have being separated from or left out entirely. I will *try* and work on that, so sorry.

 

I do like your viewpoints, I feel its a good contrast to me and Ani who are on such similar wavelengths for this series that its hard for us to hold any kind of gush free objective conversation.

 

If you do end up writing a book response I will look forward to reading it XD I don't seem to ever get sick of talking or thinking about this series so don't be surprised when I end up responding to that in full as well
