I enjoyed the Persona 4 anime, one of my biggest praise was the art style though. The characters looked much better, plus certain scenes like the battle with Yukiko I felt where handled better in the show then the game(which makes sense considering both are different mediums and have to tackle this thing differently)

Also makes sense somethings where cut or changed because they have to condense a game that is pretty dam long, not to mention alot of content in P4 was optional.

Huh. Thanks kindly for the write-up Dean! I am rather curious how they handle one of my favorite visual points in the game

Spoiler
Most of the complaints I heard were on a forum I was a part of years ago and it seems like they maybe wanted a shot for shot version of the game in anime form. I admit that I am super pleased at the idea of proper interaction between Yu and Nanako in general. <3

I'll more than likely end up checking it out at some point, save with the P3 movie that's due out! :3

I couldn't say- I left overseas right after the summer mid-point, and and never got around to going back to finish it. Plus, I have my own head-canon/fanfic of how Persona 4 should have worked, which has always left me with my one true end- the Bad End.

No, seriously- the first time I played through the game, I didn't spoil myself and let myself take the first Bad End. You know, That One. It was tragic, appropriate, and such an utter heart breaker- and then I did an entire New Game Plus rather than reload the save, and picked through the entire game again with increased stats and character attributes and carelessly let someone get killed, sending into a time loop two weeks back to do better, and it was an amazing experience to take my flaws and have to redo the time.

Ever since, I have convinced myself that the protagonist is stuck in a New Game + time loop in which resets every time the player fails, and will keep doing so until the protagonist solves the mystery. The reason you're so capable and familiar with how to get on your companions good side after that first playthrough? It's because you remember doing this all before.

Naturally, my own head-canon fanfic takes this to an even dark place in which Yu tries to exploit the cycle after countless failures and deaths at the hands of his friends around That One Boss, and it backfires horribly and amazingly and has a happy ending despite Yu being strangled to death being considered being a marginal improvement. (Because, for the first time in countless cycles, Nanako lives.)

I can say without a doubt the hospital scene and the scenes you just mentioned where handled very well imo One thing you will have to get used to is since Yu talks, Johnny altered his Adachi voice and uses his normal voice for Yu, so it might take take awhile to get used to the minor change.

Naotos voice actress is also not the same as the game(Chie and Teddie have their Arena/Golden voices

Yup! I couldn't agree more that the December hospital scene is both absolutely gut-wrenching and still one of my favorite moments in gaming. You're really not wrong that BW could learn a bit from Atlus. Having Yu no longer be a mostly silent protagonist is definitely wonderful from the clips I saw from the link Dean posted. Ahhhhhh. My to-watch list is never going to shrink!

Kind of worried about Naoto's voice being different since I liked her game actor just fine but I think I read in the past that Mary Elizabeth did her VA for the series? I think enough time has passed for me to not be quite so angsty about the change in Chie's actor. I loved her voice plenty in the game so when the trailers for P4A and P4G came out, I kind of cringed a bit...

There's also the change in Yosuke- since he's no longer needed as the exposition/lancer figure since Yu can speak, he goes more to supporting comic relief. He was always a butt monkey, but he's a bit less of a co-leader now.

As a big fan of Naoto it did bug me alot, she lacks the charm Miss.Mystery Voice Actress has in the game, she does a good job sometimes but overall she pales in comparison to her game VA.

Better than the alternative- I have a hard time enjoying anime now, since my tastes have developed so far outside the mainstream now.

Sad to say, one of my most recent enjoyable anime was Phi Brain: Puzzle of God. I found that deeper (and less annoying) than some of the latest AAA hyped anime, and it's just a puzzle-themed show. Decent characterization, though, which is what caught me.

Same here. I loved her original voice actor- in the base game, I couldn't NOT romance her. I've come to accept, but not love, her Golden voice.

Sadly, Golden actually introduced a number of things I disliked. I can't help feeling the Marie social link, and most of the new added events, were more annoying than not. Too aware of itself and playing into fan charicatures of the characters. I also felt the post-Christmas character resolution arcs were a bit of a let down or counter-productive. Naoto giving up cross dressing, Rise losing that fan, etc. And was it me, or was Rise increasingly a jerk in the added scenes? [Though the ski trip was fun.]

I don't trust myself not to screw up trying a multi-quote post so I'll just say that both of you (Dean and House) are making me want to put down my current run of the fan translation for Danganronpa (which is super good by the way and totally gives me massive Zero Escape vibes <3) and get back to the NG+ I started months ago on P4.

I haven't personally played P4G what with not owning a Vita but some of the stuff I've read about it kind of makes it sound like I'd be happier just sticking to the base game. Really unsure about how I feel about Marie so I might just see if I can find videos for her S-Link to help me make up my mind. Adachi's link though, if they pull it off well could be fascinating.

I decided to put down a 9000 word document I was writing today to pick up Persona 4 again.

It's not bad- in fact, some of the introductions are amazing, especially the anti-frustration features in the dungeons- it's just that some additions are hit or miss.

The post-Christmas winter arc is pretty good overall- definitely fills in that blank spot between the final dungeon and the final day. It shows the friends being friends. It's just, well, weird to see Kanji without hair dye.

Watched episode 14 of Psycho Pass. I'm liking where the main story is going, I would call it up to par with Gen's other work's so far, though I find I need to watch something a bit more lighthearted every few episodes to balance it out. I like how Gen not only manages to show us some brutal thing's, but warp the sense of humanity in a situation as well.

Yeah. Pacing ended up much better for it. But that was kind of inevitable. As you brought up, different mediums need to tackle the same content differently. Pacing HAD to be improved for a 26 episode anime of a (for my first go 'round) 80 hour game where a lot of content is optional.

I'm back from watching Anohana: The Flower we saw that Day.

That was f*cking beautiful. I haven't cried that much since Clannad.

So, saw the first ghost in the shell arise. It's ****.

I get it that the original Ghost in the Shell was Shirow's only masterwork, and that nowadays he does just erotica, but I'm still quite baffled how he let the franchise get watered down as much...
