Finished Gurren Lagann.
I think the series could easily be titled as "Gurren Lagann: Who the hell do you think we are?"
This moment, hits right in the feels.

Anyone here ever read/seen the series 'Ginga Nagareboshi Gin' 'Ginga Densetsu Weed' or 'Kekkaishi'?
I've read Kekkaishi. Can't remember much about it but I remember not minding it too much.
Honestly, more than the GAR and over the top bits, the best part of Kamina was the brother-relationship he had going. Anime needs more brother relationships.
(Fondly remembers Outlaw Star... and then thinks otherwise when remembering when Gene teased Jim by offering to take him to a brothel.)
This moment, hits right in the feels.
Spoiler
Not sure if anyone cares (Aside from Ani of course
) but just a tidbit from my new art book, one of my favorites
Spoiler
Sorry it's not better quality.
Thats pretty cool, where did you get that art book?
So gotten almost halfway through FMA: Brotherhood and it keep getting better and better by each episode. It actually manage to evoke a larger variety of feelings than most animes i've seen. It really is living up to everything i've heard about it!
Scenes like these cement just how good it is
While I feel Brotherhood is the better overall, I think the first anime had a few brighter spots. The death of Maes Hughes was a bit better, at least to me. But my favorite FMA episode of all time is undoubtably the Ed vs Roy exam from the first season. Particularly the dub, which had amazing voice acting and TINY MINISKIRTS!
It also has some special significance to me because it was my first introduction to FMA. It sets it up well enough that I've never felt the episodes before it were needed.

I've being eying it online for a while now, I saw it go on sale so I finally caved in and got it on a splurge
450ish pages of Madoka art. I may also scan and post some of the environment art in a bit which pretty impressive.
All in all it's one of the best art books for a series I've gotten (I have a handful of them).
Gantz has fantastic arthouse and nightmare-type pacing. This reads ugly and pretentious, and tho people often think Gantz is just sexism with no substance, it really doesn't promote anything evil, it's just an "sinister" work of art that really is unique and weird in its mindset. Some people and geth are disgusted, but I'd say that if one doesn't put a blind eye to psychopathology and the real crazy and unhumane of the real world, one would be rather intrigued. It's also rather symbolistic and philosophical. No heroes to find there, only very "pure" forms of primal psychological issues, as characterized also in nightmare situations (at least those im intrigued with and remember).
On a similar note, I loved Eva 3. People keep saying it's disappointing, I keep at it that they don't have a clue what themes and ideas make Eva a fantastic and grand work.
I can agree with you for the most part but it shouldn't take as long for things to happen in the show as they do.
Still got to watch the Eva movies myself but as far as I can tell they look pretty good.
As for Eva 3

I'd actually like to know how it's different from the original - What I liked about the show was its post-modern, surreal, abstract, symbolic & psychological aspects that came into play in the middle. It's the anime that partly inspired the creation of MGS2: Sons of Liberty, so I'm interested in hearing if the movies have generally turned it into an average mecha anime etc.
I'll keep this out of spoilers for you Chris, I'll just be super vague.
The first two Rebuilds are retellings of a good portion of the series with some details changed. The third... I don't want to ruin anything for you should you ever decide to watch them but for me personally the third was still very much in line with the series. I assume that a lot of the angst that came out around release was because it went in an entirely different direction from what people were expecting. Not different in that it changes the formula, just different that it basically wasn't a retelling of End of Eva or more from the series.
I've mumbled before about how I do love End of Evangelion. Yes it got bleak but it felt so fitting considering Anno's mindset when he originally wrote it. So many years have passed since then and I really can't help but wonder what sort of effect time has had on his mindset regarding the series, between the characters and the fanbase.

Finished Gurren Lagann... what a f*cking show.
Damn, Trigger, KLK and now this? Especially with the whole bitter-sweet ending >< You guys make the most over the top, wacky, nonsensical stuff and still make it touching, heart-warming and awesome enough for me to enjoy it tons.
Kudos you guys.

Have you reached episode 26 yet? The ending to that episode sends goosebumps down my spine like none other. Seriously, when I first watched it I was in awe, I hadn't had that much chills since the first time I saw the Ride of the Rohirrim.

Agreed, I liked End of Eva as well. Thanks, Arc. Gonna watch the movies and the series again I think.

Tell me what you think of 26's ending :-)
And man, you've yet to reach the fourth opening song which is my favourite in all the animes I've watched so far.

Think that's my favorite as well, music-wise, whereas Opening 5 has the best footage, some emotional, and some bad-ass content for certain.
