It's pretty grim.
"These are our four best pilots." ... "Edit: those were our four best pilots."
"Gravity warning, everyone prepare to die." *ship makes a sharp turn and everyone not buckled down gets splattered against a faraway building*
"Your friend is now an eldritch monstrosity, go stab it in the face."
Kinda standard 'dark' stuff, maybe, but it all seems put together well enough to me.
It's a little heavy on the 'wow [protagonist] is super ultra amazing,' but I guess it's kinda justified given his feats compared to all the other (worthless) pilots. And it's worth seeing that one white haired dude get one-upped over and over again.
I'm neither very thrilled nor very put-off by the 3D style, though I imagine it puts more than a few people off. But I think it works well for the space battles. That giant railgun they have is pretty slick. The gauna seem to be a lot like those Gargantia 'aliens,' but with an imminent human extinction threat level closer to Titans. No one can do a damn thing against them, apparently, except this one freakishly skilled dude. Again, not overly thrilled about that, but for everyone else's part, at least, it makes some sense given that none of them are really trained for this outside of simulation. But neither is he, soooo...
Anyway, I dunno why this captain is always wearing a mask, but it's kinda hot.
Therefore, these first four episodes pass Go and I give them 2000/10 Monopoly dollars. That is my review for this board game.
