I don't know about that. I know that some people would argue that the original FMA was good... not me though -- I've said my peace of mind on that but I admire their restraint -- of not resorting to stuffing it with filler and instead go their own way. It all worked out in the end with Brotherhood anyway.

Soooo it seems like KlK is definitely getting a dub. http://www.anime-exp...-special-event/ Not surprised really but I'll just be donning the occasional snob hat and say that I'll be sticking to the original version. I am curious about the casting of course though.

Eh I don't know, the dub COULD be done good,  Gurren Lagann had a good dub after all with some characters being even except for a few which where done better in the sub and some better in the dub. Now I would agree some characters will be better by default in the sub, but depending on who they get for certain characters(if they say for Lady Platt for Satsuki) then some characters would be better.

 

I'll wait till I see the cast list, though I don't think anyone they get will do a good job as Nonon or Senketsu.

I think it's better to watch the dub and ask whether it's good in its own right before singling out specific characters or even specific lines to see how they compare to the original. Otherwise you could be setting up a rather unfair prejudice compared to how you watched the sub and received the Japanese VAs (from whom you had no point of comparison).

Anyway I think I'll be happy if they manage to pull the crap Funimation did with AoT. Crap like getting damn good ratings on their Toonami showings apparently.

AoT dub is horrible. Only Petra is decent. Erens voice is garbage, Levis voice does not fit at all and too much of his dialog is OOC (Take it like a man? wtf) Mikasa is cringeworthy and when the abridged Armin is better then the official Armin you messed up big time.

 

I expected Brotherhood quality, what was produced makes me cringe in pain.

Dubs are always going to be a gamble, even with higher-quality ones like AoT. Guess I lucked out with the subbed on CrunchyRoll.

Giant Killer Humans Versus Blade-Wielding Jetpackers? Yep, there's either gonna be a big slice, or a little crunch.

It's virtually the only Anime talked about on here I've stuck around with to the end. As crazy as KlK is, the story didn't really hook me enough to keep watching. They know how to entertain, though.

I really do need to stop being a slacker and finally watch AoT myself... Current plans as of now are having my soul crushed by Psycho-Pass and then even things out with Black Lagoon. I quickly jumped between both casts of BL last night and I think as of now I'll definitely be going with the dub. I ramble about the snob hat enough but there still are some series that I like the dub for just fine (Noir and Read or Die TV and OVA specifically).

I know the feeling of having so many well recived animes just waiting to be watched. Gone from AoT and KLK to FMA:B and Gurren Lagann and i got at least a thousand animes left to watch and the list just keep growing. Not going to complain about that though, could be worse and having animes like Black Lagoon waiting is quite exciting

That's exactly what I love about this topic, Rah. :3 Seeing you guys get amped for series naturally piques my curiosity since our tastes seem to all fall so close together. A few of the folks I follow on Tumblr are pretty big into FMA:B and of course the happy noises here made me decide I might as well add it to the list. I did watch a chunk of the original series way back when but never finished it and the general consensus seems to be that FMA:B is worlds better. The details are super rusty on the original series so apologies if I mess this up but there's one moment that stuck out to me (AKA it messed me up bad) that I'm curious if FMA:B does as well:

Absolutely, seeing people recommend certain animes makes it quite easy to find good ones since i've started to learn where my taste is and where it's compared to everyone elses. One of many reasons why this thread is so very awesome!

YES. The Black Lagoon dub is most excellent! Revy sounds way more badass in the dub then in subs.
