Rock Lee vs Gaara was the series' milestone of betting of a hardass self-achievist vs man-made human weapon of mass destruction.
I had stopped watching Naruto at the beginning of the Fourth Ninja War arc, by then the series was already plagued by asspulls and borderline BS insane characterization (Sasuke's character development in particular is nothing but a giant clusterfuck). It's a shame really because the series started insanely good (Zabuza arc), was quite decent in between, had another insanely good arc (Chuunin exam) and after the timeskip, I really can't tell you guys how much I loved the whole Akatsuki story. It felt like the series really matured, but then another bloody asspull with Pain just resurrecting everyone from death because "duh, friendship", throwing away all the credibility of sacrifice that makes true friendship so important in a world full of betrayal. What's that? A major character just died? Naw, we can't have that, we'll resurrect him so we can sell some more merchandise.

I tease, Isi's already shot me over a list of the different viewing orders when I brought up that I'm definitely thinking about checking it out finally. I suppose the real test will be if I have the fortitude to handle all of the Endless Eight. 
I re-watched bits of 17, 18 and 19 the other night myself. Still fairly convinced it's my favorite chunk of the series even if parts afterwards were amazing as well. Still trying to find something that will fill the KlK void til the OVA comes out.
