One Piece bores me, but I've always appreciated how fantastical and unique the character designs and art style is..Punching Baloon Boy is one of my most appreciated character designs of all anime.
So just a watcher of the anime then? Cuz the manga is better. The anime was good for what about 130 episodes? Well less when you take the filler out. The anime going on right now has worse pacing then DBZ at this point. It's almost like they were both made by Toei! Oh right, they were.
My whole view of the series is it's a fun adventure and fantasy story for all ages. It has some good characters and themes that it does well. It has had dud spots here and there, sure. But it has a perfect mix of silly and serious drama that always gets me into a comic or a cartoon. That and great worldbuilding, people don't bring that up enough when they talk about One Piece.
And since you bring up the art and character design. I love it. Sure Oda has some problems drawing female characters, but that's a problem a lot of shonen artists have, so meh. The character designs and the over-the-top character designs work really great for that feeling of silly/serious for me. And like you said they are unique.
I mean these are the series' final villains.

None of them are stoically boring pretty boys or smug pretty boys like you see in most other boring shonen fantasy/adventure series. And that is very refreshing.

I am looking forward to hilarity xD
Now I'm finally hooked on FMA: Brotherhood. It's kind of blasphemous how long it took. It's like a filmmaker/reviewer not seeing Citizen Kane or a gamer not playing Ocarina of Time.

YAY!

lol Holly. I'm not a fan of Jotaro though he just seems like a douche and there is a great lack of posing, Joseph was always posing.
F*ck, Caeser posed when he sat on his chair. Now THAT'S a real poser xD

Okay, so I'm gonna leave SC until it has more episodes. Because I'll plough through those 9 in no time.
So I'm watching Samurai Champloo in the meantime and I've only watched one episode but so far I'm VERY impressed. The characters seem cool so far, but what really sets it out from the rest is the animation.
GOD those fights are awesome. Typically I hate fights in anime that involve hand-to-hand stuff or swords since most of the time it's done in one or two moves and the rest is just the two guys talking about how awesome/evil/good/bad they are. You'll have the normal background flashy thing come up 20 times as well.
But not here, everything is choreographed perfectly, it is so freaking awesome, just like how fights SHOULD be.

Yes! Thank you!
Some of the fights later on are superb.

Just finished episode 2 and f*ck it's still awesome. The fight vs the assassin was really well done. I mean, up 'till now one of my favourite fights in any anime was those brief moments where (FMAB spoilers ahead)
But this takes the cake. It's that fight every fight times 5 xD

Episodes 20-21 and then the final arc has my favorite fights.

Knowing me you'll be hearing about it in no time xD
I'd be disappointed and a bit surprised if you weren't finished by the time I wake up to go to work tomorrow ![]()
Finishes watching Zipang. Hope there's a second season. It's good, tough it has it's few quirks.
I can't say I like the XO. He's a drama queen and hypocrite
"How dare you call yourself a visionary? You are just a man like me!" (because visionaries obviously aren't men but another race)
"How dare you try to change the future? I'll kill you for that!" (even tough we are knowingly changing the future ourselves)

Watching Jo-Jo.
Dio is just pure evil, rediculously so.
Also, the S guy (the second vampire) is a joke.
He's supposed to be a master, the successor to the old tibetan master. He's supposed to have tons of experience - being a lot older than the second Joestar. He's also a vampire, meaning he's faster, stronger, etc..
And yet the second Joestar (who is very much like Gin from Gintama.. same voice-actor I think) beats the ever-living s*** out of him despite having no training that we know off. I mean, the S guy has EVERY advantage one can think off. Unlike Dio, he knows everything about the ripples. And he still gets humiliated so badly.
Based on a little info I've gathered the essence of Jo Jo anime is "being bizarre"!

Christ, have fun with it and relax xD shout WRRRYYYYYYYYY and MUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDA a few times. You need a little dose of Sheagorath in you ![]()
And Dio is the most evil (yet fabulous) bastard in any medium ever xD
First thing he does? KICKS THE F*CKING DOG. Oh my god I haven't laughed like that in ages.
Lotion and Kaiser are a 100% incompatible with me.
I am, and will forever be, a child at heart xD
What a coincidence, so am I.
A demanding man-child child with refined tastes, but still... ![]()
Ah well sim, you're 18.
Your tastes will "mature" (I hate that word, let's just say chage) in time too, you'll see.
*sigh*
Here I go talking like I'm an old man. I'm only 33...why do I feel so old all of a sudden?
EDIT:
Come to think of it, I do have one LOTR calendar on my door
Who's gonna play Anders?
Does zombie Anders count?

While the designs are unique and memorable, I HATE Luffy. That grin. That horrible grin. Every time he smiles I want to punch out all his teeth. Just to make it stop.
You would think if these people actually had an issue with the over-sexualized characters in anime they would go after fan service and the actually questionable content.. But nope "it has a bunch of young girls in it" is enough to judge it.. Incredibly weak and ignorant standards tbh.
I like my girls young, but not that young, thank you.

I don't see that as an ignorant standard. Character age doesn't matter as much as context does.
When young characters are sexualized and thrust into situation/scenes inappropriate for their age, that is where the problem is.
You can have an entire cast of little girls without problems (for example, Azumanga Daioh)

I don't really care about a character's age because it seems like in most fan-service based animes older = taller. Most of the younger students have bigger racks than the teachers, so, you know, there's that. I don't know why, but I always feel like my intelligence is being insulted when there's a ridiculous amount of fan-service in the show. It's like the creators think that's all the guy viewers are showing up for or something. I'm there for the plot; the bewbz can wait.

Samurai Champloo is absolutely amazing. The art style, general vibe, character interactions, and action make it probably my second favorite anime, behind only Darker than Black.
I actually loved Mugen so much that I designed an entire DnD character around him.
Also, let me know when you get to the episode about Jin and the Prostitute. I always love hearing opinions on that one.
Based on a little info I've gathered the essence of Jo Jo anime is "being bizarre"!
Bizzare and "makes no sense" are two different things. Note that I am talking SPECIFICALLY about the fight with the S guy. Here I was hoping for a big epic showdown with a super-vampire.
I did find the whole unconventional tactics and trash-talking fun, but going too far with it hurts the credibility of the bad guy, since he becomes epically incompetent.
If I didn't saw potential in Jo-Jo, I wouldn't have continued watching.

God I hope not. I'm at a stage where I can enjoy absolutely anything... well to a certain extent. The Walking Dead series still makes me nod to sleep sometimes because they just CAN NOT pull of interesting dialogue.

Same, unless it is just painful to drag yourself through (which is why I've tried to stick to series that are short lately, no 50 ep series yet), I'm going to finish watching it, and enjoy the series in the long run.
