While the designs are unique and memorable, I HATE Luffy. That grin. That horrible grin. Every time he smiles I want to punch out all his teeth. Just to make it stop.

I don't see that as an ignorant standard. Character age doesn't matter as much as context does.
When young characters are sexualized and thrust into situation/scenes inappropriate for their age, that is where the problem is.
You can have an entire cast of little girls without problems (for example, Azumanga Daioh)

And yet instead of arguing that something is over sexualized or innoppropriate I have seen you dismiss shows by just commenting on how the cast is 90% young girls.

Technically Azumanga Daioh falls under the exact same criticism that you've dismissed other shows with (it's mostly just younger girls) maybe if it comes down to it being inappropriate to the context of a story that's what you should be saying?

But it is true that I'm getting tired of an all-little-girl cast. There is no denying anime has an overabdundance of young characters (mostly female) and that those same characters are over-sexualized or put in rather inappropriate contexts with alarming frequency.

That's reasonable. I have a friend who's recommended a lot of shows that have mostly female casts and I admit it can get a bit old, especially when there's no in-story reason for it

P.S episode 16 on Samurai Champloo, I suspect I would have been almost done if I didn't fall asleep for 3 hours (pulling all nighters is hard.)

 

Ah! How is Samurai Champloo? I came across it on Netflix and it looked fun, but haven't started watching yet.

A-f*cking-mazing! You can really tell that the director of Cowboy Bebop was behind it. Like Bebop it's an episodic adventure which really just focuses on the characters and their development. There is a 'main goal' but the focus is really on the cast. It has some great stories, HILARIOUS moments and goes into depth with themes like patriarchy. The animation for the fights is the best I've seen in an anime so far, and the dub is solid too with the three main protagonists having great VAs (Steve Blum included.) And no, don't worry, Steve Blum's character isn't a rehash of Spike Spiegel (even though he does act like him sometimes.)

Mugen is nothing like Spike Spiegal. In fact, he's the opposite, but there's something about him despite how utterly apathetic he is towards anyone but himself. I think I prefer Jin, partly because he's voiced by Kirk Thornton, whose voice is always awesome, and also because he's quite likeable.

 

Also, why the heckle haven't you watched BACCANO, one of the greatest animes known to man, yet?

I said *sometimes* xD the way he's so nonchalant and carefree about situations mostly. But yeah, he's not Spike at all.
