Mind you it's slow, but I don't think anyone will have a problem with that. The pacing is brilliant though :-)
A slow pace is rarely an issue for me. The stopping point is usually just that the older I've gotten, the more shorter series appeal to me because of the time commitment. I've mostly worried about losing steam on it at some point or something like that. But space operas and fascinating politics call to me in these sorts of mediums so I know it's something I'm going to have to do at some point. :3 One of my streaming sites has all 110 episodes up though so thankfully it won't be an issue of HD space or anything.
That's half the reason I never followed up with the rest of Detective Conan, cause 700+ episodes when you go with the subbed version and as much as I do really enjoy the series, the episode list is intimidating as hell. ![]()
Conan is also a very hit or miss kind of series.
Most of the murders/cases are pretty cool and well thought out but others are just kind of eh.
And it only goes back to the main plot like every 50 or 100 chapters/episodes. It does at least add some new stuff when it does but at this point I am just waiting for it to end and then I will go back to the manga.
Still watch the movies as they come out tho.
As for LotGH it's the best anime show ever.
I've always really liked the sort of 'case of the week' format myself and a nice mystery series will always have a special place in my heart (PS: Super happy to find out that Agatha Christie fans hop around here too
) but I've kind of wondered how on earth they're keeping the main plot going for so long without resolution.
Now you guys have me pondering an SnK break and working on both the Conan movies (I haven't watched any of them yet myself, I just know of their existence) and poking at LotGH finally.
I normally don't juggle series these days but it might be something I ponder getting back to doing.

When I saw a 'detective conan' on my search for mystery animes, I was first like 'oh' and then 'oh.' Both very different kind of oh's because upon seeing that there were 700+ episodes I immediatley took the Nope train to F*ckthatsh*tville.
@Anima
Good to hear. And I understand where you're coming from, but LotGH is something else, seriously. It's brilliant and so far hasn't had any 'filler' at all. But don't take an SnK break!
xD watch it all, it's only 25 episodes ![]()
@Geth
It quite possibly is.
Still love my FMAB more though ![]()
Btw, are the detective conan movies worth it? I won't touch the series because then I won't have time for any of my other anime but if the movies can be watched without the series and if the murder cases are actually good, then I'll watch it.
But my standards for murder investigations come from Agatha Christie... so I might expect too much.
Oh yeah I like the one-shots of the series more than the actual main plot. It's just sometimes the mystery is way too easy and that never makes for a good read/watch. For Conan I like to read the chapters in bulk, same with Ippo and that's a longer series than Conan. As some know here I am fine with longer series as long as they are good like I am a fan of JoJo and One Piece. But with Conan and Ippo they are good but I am fine with waiting for the endings to get back to them.
If they have endings and that goes into me thinking they might become/became the Kochikame series of their own magazines.
Kochikame, if you don't know started in Shonen Jump in 1976 and has 190 volumes so far and the creator has never took one break. So it has been in every issue of Jump since 1976. The art and stuff is pretty simple seeing as it is a gag series but that's still amazing.
It's part of Japanese culture by now I would say. Sort of like Sazae-san. And if you don't know what that is, look it up sometime. It has over 7000 episodes.
@Sim Watch about anywhere from 50 to 200ish episodes and you will get most of the characters as well as see some of the series best cases.
Most of the movies are pretty good but it helps to actually know the series a bit and watcing the show is the only way to do that.
The cast grows too but not fast, like Ai Haibara who I would call one of the main character first shows up in episode 129 and she is in every movie starting from the 3rd one
Sim: I know I really shouldn't take an SnK break cause I have 11 episodes left of the season and Isi has thrown the hype train at me for how good the latter half of the season is... Admittedly again it did take a while for the first chunk to really hold me so I guess I kind of figured the second chunk might be the same (though I'm quite happy to be proven wrong there). The lack of filler with 100+ episodes on LotGH is incredibly impressive to me I will say.
I also hold all mysteries up to Agatha's standards, so don't you worry there.
While I haven't watched the movies as I mentioned before, the series does tend to fall along her sorts of whodunnit outlines which is what originally drew me to it. There have been a handful of episodes that fall along the Mousetrap (my favorite play by her btw and I got to do some acting with it around a decade ago :3) sort of thinking or even And then There Were None (/Ten Little Indians if you want to use the old title) which always makes me smile really big.
Geth: I get you there completely. A lot of the earlier one-shots for me were very enjoyable and I'll always love getting to the point where the explanation comes out, but there have definitely been cases where it's just a matter of sighing and waiting since the case was far too easy to figure out. ![]()
I'm kind of the same with the Black Butler/Kuroshitsuji manga myself. I definitely prefer reading it in chunks rather than doing it as they come out (94 chapters by now if memory serves properly). I'll admit I'm very excited about the reboot series that's supposed to be coming out there as well.
Sim, Lotion and Geth all like LotGH? And it's over 100 episodes? God(oka) dammit! I'M TRYING TO JUGGLE LIKE 5 SHOWS ALREADY GUYS!

I feel your pain, got 6 animes going at the same time and i'm not sure why i did this to myself. Doesn't help that i want to watch every single anime that get recommended either and LotGH look so tempting.. MUST RESIST.. but it's so hard!
A thing I see a lot with any long series such as One Piece or Berserk or any long still ongoing series is when someone catches up with them they have an awful time reading them as they come out. A lot of the time they just don't how to deal with the serialization of the series. Like I have seen many a post saying an action/fight chapter or a heavy dialogue/flashback chapter of One Piece is boring but when the same person rereads the story arc they like those chapters much better that time because they then see how they work with the whole arc. Sometimes I think they should just keep up with the volumes or wait until the arc is done then read it.
I grew up with comics and shows that are week by week and month by month series so it never bugs me like it does others. Still I like to reread/watch stuff as much as the next person.
And everyone go watch LotGH right now.

I concur!
I can not decide who I like better, Reinhard or Yang! IT'S ASOIAF ALL OVER AGAIN!

Only 11 episodes left! And the last fight of SnK is awesome.

Poirot truly spoiled me xD I'm like "this ain't Poirot" and I switch it off xD so any mysteries I come by I just lower my expectations greatly and then I enjoy them.
Death Note was different since it wasn't really a mystery, more of a cat and mouse game which is why I enjoyed it so much.
So far, none of the more mystery involved animes have held a candle to Poirot xD
Right now about halfway through Baccano and enjoying it so far, had to hit big after PMMM and i've not been disappointed at all. Amusing music, nice art and some quite interesting characters and story arcs. Taken a liking to two characters in particular and that's Isaac and Miria. They are so very eccentric that it's a blast to see what they might say or do next
Geth, that was a magical experience. :') (Horrible pun intended? Probably...)

Bacacano gets better as it goes along as you start putting the pieces together and seeing the full picture as it goes a long. And yes, Isaac and Maria are just too great. They need their own spin off show of them being hilariously stupid/smart xD
And in the dub they're voiced by Winry and Kraft Lawrence xD That's great! Especially for the latter since he usually uses the same voice for most of his characters.
This is still the best JoJo video in all of the internet.
But I have read all the parts as well as understand strange stupid Japanese memes so that helps get why it is so amazing.
Unlike all you noobs.

Now you got me watching Baccano vids -.-
Don't watch bro! You might get spoilers ![]()
I need a unrecommended anime, I've been watching too many favorites.
Dunno, I watch quirky acid trip animes 80% of the time nowdays, have you seen Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita?
Or short stuff, like Ishida to Asakura (also a gag comedy). You can binge it in 30 minutes, it has 2 minutes episodes. ![]()

1/4 through LotGH - slow considering the pace I usually go at, but work and all that wash keeps me busy nowadays.
But holy sh*t has it been a hell of a ride. Brilliant story-telling, not a moment or episode wasted on pointless recaps or waiting about. Everything is relevant to the narrative and characterisation of the cast. Even when there ARE flashbacks, it's used as a reminder to contrast the now and then of a character or arc. It's beautifully put together, even when there are two things going on at the same time, the episodes alter from perspective to perspective.
Yang and Reinhard provide a great contrast to each-other. They aren't bad/good or socialist/capitalist, it's more of a different way to approach similar goals. Whilst Yang is far more easy going and humble than Reinhard, he doesn't live in a feudal society where it is practically demanded of you that you be ruthless at times.
Both the left wing and right wing (Alliance and Empire) are handled very well with all their strengths and weaknesses. Basically, you won't find propaganda or favouritism on either side. The balance is handled just as well as ASOIAF.
Seriously, there are a million things to say about just how great this show has been so far, and I'm just a quarter into it. I'm so glad I've found something I might love just as much as FMAB. Been looking for that since I watched it back in March I believe.
You're definitely helping the hype train there for me, Sim. X3 Sometimes I do wish cloning myself were possible, that'd make it a hell of a lot easier to watch all the series I'd like to without fretting over when to watch what and such.
After some prodding from Geth, I finally started Jojo (2012) myself! First things first, I really like the OP a lot. It's funny cause I watched the majority of Hokuto no Ken/Fist of the North Star way back when and Jojo so far brings up the same sort of entertainment value to me. Speaking of HnK, I got a chuckle in the first time I watched the images of the OP since Jojo looked an awful lot like Ken so it made me wonder if it was a little nod. I'm going to try to make it at least til episode 9 tonight and then figure out how I'm going to juggle things.
Dio's feather coat is also amazing and I want one. ![]()
