What makes me chuckle about that is after I finished the episode where Wham, Cars and AC/DC first woke up, I was going to come in and mumble about how Wham is pretty awesome. I'm stopping right after 19 tonight cause I'm starting to get incredibly tired but I can definitely say that Battle Tendency has an amazing cast, for sure. Probably going to sneak on over and throw some music into the other thread (Lisa Lisa and AC/DC's themes respectively cause I really like both a lot) and then off to Z land.

Anyone watching Wizard Barristers? It has an interesting premise which is so weird, alone it peaked my interest. Magical law firm investigating crimes by wizards.

Yeah I am starting to notice this as well. It's hard for me to find a Mecha series I like I can't stand when they have 15 year olds piloting mechs or the mechs look like they were put together with parts from a import tuner(bright colors, angel wings ect). Guess I will have to keep digging if only someone would put out a anime series for Battletech or Mechwarrior I would be set.

 

 

In that case you want old gundams...where every mecha is a mass-produced cannon fodder.

 

Or Macross (the original one, forget the later ones, they just keep getting more horrible)

 

But alas, there are few shows where mecha actually feel like actual military tools - rugged, simple designs and piloted by REAL soldiers, not 15-yeard old kids.

The only anime I can think of where a 16-year old pilot made sense was Escaflowne.

And that is because the pilot was was also the king (and thus no one could really say no to him. Plus he got mentored by the best).

 

Most shows either offer no credible explanation why the military is using (or would want to use) kids, or the explanations are utterly horrible and forced as hell.

Gundam 00? Meh.

 

It has some nice bits, but also a lot of "WTF?" and plot convenience.

That said I'm still not done with it. Put it on hold after watching 20-something episodes.

 

The two seasons are different animals. Season 2 definitely has some amazing fights, and the best newtype-esque story in theme and gradual progression since X, but it's plot is... cartoonishly evil villainy, really.

 

In Season 1, it was an honest question of who the good guys were. Season 2, not so much.

All this Jojo talk really does make it an attractive option for when i'm done with Baccano in a few days. Or i might go with Death Note, been putting it off for a while so it might just be time to see what has made such sweet love with my bro! Also considering some of Gen Urobuchi other work since PMMM crushed its way to 1st spot.

At some point quite soon a re-watch probably will happen since i've found out that so much happen that it's near impossible to actually remember it all, especially the small things that build up to something insanely awesome like with in Rebellion where small things add up to the the moment where Homura realise that she's actually a witch! The way all that was handled is incredibly impressive and made the alternate world they were in really work far better than it normally should. Usually not a large fan of things happening in alternate worlds and such but Rebellion made me a believer in that it could really work if taken care of properly. PMMM and Rebellion took on a lot of the things i tend to be a bit uncertain about and made them work and really open the path for many more animes and storylines to be watched. I mean i really don't hope that PMMM and Rebellion are the only ones making this kind of stuff to work, that would be a bit sad.

 

Been a few days now since i watched PMMM and Rebellion and i've noticed a lot of the things that both Isichar and Anima talked about how people view characters and their actions really differently, namely Homura the most. It's fascinating but chessus do i want to beat some people up with a book at times. Either way, been thinking a bit more about Mami since last time. She carry a large amount of importance for pretty much everything that happens in PMMM/Rebellion. Her time in the series is cut short very sadly and i'd love to see more of her but she became something really impressive through her death and it was really her death that set a lot of things in motion. Sayaka deciding to become a Puella would probably happen eitherway but Mami's death was a really strong push towards that direction and everyone that has seen the series know exactly what that course of action cause and everything really do cause something else to happen and that was handled very well throughout everything. If not for Mami i might not have meet Kyoko and that would be the truest of all true tragedies! 

 

Mami is also one of those characters where i just feel so much sympathy for because she's genuinly a very nice person that really do have a lot of great traits but thanks to becoming a Puella the way she did and what that really bring her nice traits almost becomes a burden because she can't share them with people like any normal person would be able to. Just thinking about the loneliness she must've felt for such a long time is really horrifying and just make me want to give her the biggest and warmest of all hugs possible. Being lonely sucks, being lonely for such a long time is just awful and that's why it's just so great that after all the things that happened she might finally have a chance to be truly happy again, in no small part due to Homura! First it was Madoka and Sayaka that became friends with her right before her death but in Rebellion things really do start to look better for her and Bebe, you cheese loving and utterly adorable better be the bestest of friends with her because Mami deserves it after all that has happened and all the things she has done for others.

You might enjoy Gundam Build Fighter. It makes no pretension about being anything other than a toy commercial for kids. It's so refreshingly honest, the quality of the fights doesn't get degraded by a poor war story.

I just finished up Baccano before going to bed last night. I loved it. I would have no problem putting it in my top 10 list.

It's probably a surprise to exactly no one that when I like something, I tend to ramble about it a lot. In my partially awake times last night I was poking around the Jojo wiki to check up on voice actors and I'm actually rather surprised that I didn't recognize Dio's a lot sooner (which technically is a good thing for him since he's got range). Mostly because he was in two things very dear to me beforehand, Remember11 (A VN I love to death that I'll potentially try and prod Geth, Puddi and Isi into reading since it's by the same team that eventually worked on Zero Escape, also dealing in the Jungian concepts that spawned my username), and Revolutionary Girl Utena (which I have a ton of feelings about as you all might have noticed since I mention it a fair bit).

There's a huge reason why I don't much hop around the PMMM tag of Tumblr too much anymore... It's not because I can't accept people not liking my favorite characters (since both Homura and Sayaka get a lot flak from time to time) but because I tend to get frustrated when people just focus on one single moment (examples for those two being the caught you scene and onwards, and thinking that Kyousuke not returning the latter's love is the whole reason she became a witch) instead of looking at the whole picture.

 

Mami and Kyouko are two characters that I technically don't talk about enough to show how much I actually do care about them. There's some interesting things to note between the tv version and the blu-ray release. The one that always sticks out the most to me being that in the original broadcast, Mami's room was very sparsely decorated, it wasn't until the blu-ray release that they redid her room to fancy it up a bit. That's something that I admit I prefer the ideas that the original version pushed forward. Loneliness can be so crippling and the idea that her room was never overly decorated just kind of helps to catch the idea in my mind that she got so used to living a life without company and every partnership was fleeting.

 

But people often choose to ignore the fact that Homura subconsciously let Bebe/Nagisa in and in doing so caused Mami to fight without a burden, something often brought up in the series. Of course Bebe had her own agenda too but there's a lot to be said about her becoming a pillar to Mami. There's a lot of good that came out of the situation and yes we don't know right now how that's going to play out once the series moves forward again, but as of now everyone has a chance to be happy and lead normal lives, as temporary as that might be.

As for JoJo casts. Part 3 has the most iconic sure and they are great but I say parts 4, 6, 7 and even 5 have the best overall casts. JoJolion's cast has been pretty good too.

It makes me stupidly happy to know that you've read R11, Geth. :') A friend and I rambled for a bit about how if we ever do get part 3 of Zero Escape, the concepts of R11 are what we're really hoping they'll bring over since the storyline is at least kind of set up in a way that would make it fairly easy. I/O from the same team got a fan translation earlier in the year too! I can't comment on it too much since I haven't read/played/insert verb here too much of it yet but from what I've managed to skim without spoiling myself, I kind of think it was there that they got the practice for the locked routes and such that later became VLR's story structure. :3

 

From what I've investigated while trying to avoid spoilers as much as possible, 4, 6 and 7 are the parts I'm most looking forward to reading. I started checking out Phantom Blood's manga last night since I figure it will be neat to see the differences between the original work and the adaption, so I think that'll mostly be what I work on to try and wind down at night.

It's a bother when a character is seen as nothing more than one single event or action when that obviously isn't the case. It's really one large downside of paying attention to what parts of fandoms might think and i'm probably going to ignore the fandom in most parts. Tumblr just has to accept that it will be a source of gifs and impressive art to me. For once i've managed to fall for a character that doesn't get nearly as much as flak as other characters. It's cool to not be a fan off every character but a lot of the flak is very silly and it's really a pain to skip through when it can be quite a lot of it. It sucks that Sayaka get flak for that reason just makes all of it very sad since just by paying a bit off attention anyone could see while it upset her that things didn't go the dreamy road to happiness she didn't fall to despair for that alone. Sayaka is much stronger than that and it does her great injustice to believe that she would fall for that alone. 

Homura by being one of the most vital characters got tons and tons of scenes where she does absolutely vital stuff and while i admit the "caught you" scene is massive it's not all she ever does. It's hard to not go off on a rant on these kinds of subject..

 

It's hard to talk about everything worth loving in PMMM, especially when so much of it can spawn novels from any person that can type! Didn't know about that difference and just by thinking a bit about it i agree that a sparsely decorated room send a much stronger message and really put into light how horribly crippling loneliness can be. Especially when you're suffering from it for such a long time it can easily get to the point where one might question why bother making stuff look pretty when there will be none to see it and if they do for such a short time that they'll never remember it. Making it look more decorated might be nice to look at but i feel it would undermine one very important part of who Mami is and what her story is. It's really sad to think about how much Mami has suffered in the silent because none could see her, help her or do anything for her and that must've been so horrible that i really don't want to think about it too much. 

 

That Homura did that is one thing that is very easy to miss and that Bebe got through and by doing so let Mami have support. That's amazing since she has for so long been alone and "died" so shortly after meeting Madoka and Sayaka in the series, that now with Bebe she can fight with someone being there which must make Mami feel hundreds of times more powerful. Mami needed that support and while Bebe had the grand agenda of eating more cheese she still stuck with Mami and for that she's a great addition to the cast. Anyone that support Mami support them all! 

 

All things considered in the story and all that might happen in the future which i really am looking forward to whenever it comes around we can at least for now say that everyone at least have the chance of being happy for a while and that they all very much deserve, especially if harder times might be up ahead. Strengthen their moral and who knows what will happen! I for certain will be there captured once again!

Baccano's opening is the closest thing we'll ever get to Tank methinks

 

It's interesting because Durarara's opening also has this close-up pin-up Guy Richie sort of opening too

 

But then they do share similar storytelling mechanics, except in Dura's case it's not so much of an unchronological plot-line but rather one that ties smaller stories of each character presented in the first few episodes, and the focus usually shifts between them. A sort of Song of Ice and Fire kinda narrative method of storytelling, third-person alternating view, where the perspective shifts between episodes, from one character to another, and thus they each convey their own story adding to the whole, whereas the others potentially serve as guests in these stories, and sometimes as devices for plot convenience & progression.

 

The author of Baccano & Durarara had another manga based around Vampires simply titled Vamp!! -- Wish they'd make anime out of that one. Could have been interesting. Looking foward to 2nd season of this one anyway.

So I'm about 1/3 the way through PMMM. It's entrancing. Sort of like taking the template of the Sailor Scouts or similar stuff and putting it in a more realistic light - or at least a more dramatic/dark one. It's a very chaotic setting, and it makes for a more interesting narrative. They play a lot off of "Is this choice worth the price?" sort of stuff, and it works well.

Plus, the nightmare labyrinths are really cool. I like the drastic change in art style. Almost like a demented version of Monty Python.
