Going to echo the fact that .hack is pretty fantastic. It's actually the thing that got me into Yuki's music to begin with (Noir being the second and the live action Boogiepop Phantom movie being third) so I tend to have a lot of nostalgia towards it. Considering I've firmly been on team Kajiura since then, I have .hack to thank for that. :')

 

Now I feel like I have to sneak to the music section and post the one that always gets stuck in my head...

So i've started Black Bullet. I'm still not sure how I feel about it. It's certainly odd.

A few moments really stood out to me in those episodes

In episode 8 when Sayaka finally turns into a witch, I literally sat there with a jaw hanging.  Something about that moment when you realize things are definitely NOT going to be okay that is just chilling. 

 

Second is in episode 9, when the floor collapses during the fight against witch!Sayaka, especially in the dub, Kyouko's little prayer/monologue is SOOO SAD OMG.  Its probably the only moment in the dub that I thought was without a doubt superior thanks to the VAs delivery.  It really sheds light into where Kyouko is at emotionally, moments before she dies.

 

Then in episode 10, during the third timeline when Mami snaps and kills Kyouko. That whole sequence caught me by surprise, and I think really effectively shows the sad reality that the characters, as people, are faced with.  And then Homura fails AGAIN.  The show truly is unforgiving.

 

And of course there is everything else, but those are the parts that stuck with me after my first viewing.

Can safely say i'm quite hooked on Death Note. It's not a perfect anime by any means but it send enough interesting vibes for me to want to keep on watching and reject stuff that kinda need to be done. Last episode i've seen was 7 and i've kinda felt sympathy for a character that more or less already had the noose hanging around their neck. Like lambs to the slaughter and the anime bring forth the more sinister smirks i can do. I feel slightly evil and perfectly alrigth with that

Spent some time thinking about of course Kyoko because that will always happen and then thought about Madoka a bit and realised besides the little time they spent together trying to reach Sayaka in the series that they otherwise don't interact at all. Kyoko get quite a bit of time with Sayaka and Homura and i've read that she have interacted with Mami on numerous occassions in the past. Naturally it would be impossible to have everyone interact a decent amount of time with each other and i'm pretty cool with Kyoko and Madoka not interacting that much because in potential future content that it's possible that they do, or they don't but at least the chance is there and they both do care about Sayaka so it's not like they have no reason to ever see each other. Especially considering how close Sayaka is to Madoka and that her friendship with Kyoko is growing quite well. Once again i do have to thank Homura for being such fantastic character for reseting a lot of stuff and giving the chance for even more amazing things to happen and more feels to be felt. Without our lovely demon it wouldn't be possible so arigatou Homura!

 

Don't think i've really given Madoka enough praise for just how absolutely amazing as a character she is throughout the series and TRS. It's easy to get dwarfed in the company as the other Puella Magi but she's the beating heart of the group and it's impossible to not notice just how vital Madoka is to everyone. That she's in some sense still is "Godoka" give Madoka one incredible amount of importance in what can happen in the future. It's clear that status quo that Homura has achived through her "caught you" scene wont last forever and that Madoka will play a role as important as before if not even more important and against a person that she genuinly care about. Outside of all these things Madoka is a character that make being nice an actual strength that can be counted on. She doesn't own stuff by being the strongest, the fastest or the smartest but being more in touch with her genuine and nice side. I really can appreciate that she made it so very clear that her power is not the one you tend to expect in a lot of characters but she make it work and oh dear does it work insanely well! It's even more impressive that she manages to remain that nice and have her very positive and optimistic outlook on things when actually bad stuff happen. It's a solid foundation that has so far survived everything and that stuff has not been weak at all. Madoka doesn't strike me at all as a hero that might fall from grace due to not only her niceness but the people she has surrounded herself with. Mami, Sayaka and Kyoko are all very capable of standing against everything and with such friends Madoka will never be alone.

First off, thank you for giving Homura credit where it is deserved. A lot of people complain about her actions however she did bring more then a few people some degree of happiness which could not have happened otherwise.

 

I did like Kyouko and Madoka's dynamic for what little was there (I'm guessing that's mostly due to time constraints) since they had pretty apposing personalities but still clicked surprisingly well, which could mostly be due to the fact they both care about Sayaka and are striving to help her in their own way. It would have been nice to see Kyouko and Mami get more screen time but there appearances are short and sweet. It sort of reminds me of something Gen or Shinbo (directed the series) said about how sometimes the characters with the least screen time are the ones you have to think about the most because you have less time to get their characteristics across so you have to make what's their count, it was the same thing with some of the interactions (I think in this case whoever said it was referring to Junko)

 

I do think Madoka is a very underrated character. She gets a lot of criticism for all her crying but I think a lot of people don't realize how much strength it takes to continually feel the pain of those around you and take in those emotions even when those people can't cry for themselves. She cries a lot, but almost entirely because she watches her friends in pain and she is unable to do anything about it. Like most Magical Girl series PMMM is basically a coming of age story about Madoka growing into an adult and discovering what that means which basically involves finding out the world can be a very cruel and uncaring place. That Madoka is able to watch the people she cares about suffer in this system and decides to sacrifice herself in order to make things just a bit better involves an incredible amount of strength I think.

 

Unfortunately you can not always measure the value of the hope caused against that of the pain it can cause a person, in this case Homura which is where Homuras words that an act of kindness can bring an even greater tragedy start to come into play. This series is heavily rooted in the theme of duality so it's interesting to see how Madoka's hope plays off of Homura's despair and vice versa.

Ya know the deal, PMMM/TRS

I'll never stay silent when it comes to what Homura did, i will always mention that without Homura everything would eventually go somewhere so very dark that dark holes would be bright. Her action made hope possible, a future possible for everyone INCLUDING Madoka and while it's alright to believe her action was selfish and that i got no problem with people thinking but i'm less inclined to stay silent when the action is only painted with the blackest of black and when the actually good sides get ignored. Homura is alright with taking on the role of "evil" for the sake of everyone else and that is one of the most noble things anyone possibly could do. I'll rant, ramble and gush in her favour just so that her side is always multi-coloured!

 

The dynamic between the characters in general was amazing and i very much agree with how with the short amount of time we got to experience with them that a few characters didn't get the chance to truly shine with each other but that's why i'm remaining hopeful for future content and that Gen Urobuchi one day will with his golden pen will create actual magic with our beloved characters. I would love to see more of Madoka and Kyoko, Kyoko and Mami.. Kyoko - everyone while i'm at it but yeah you get the point. Mami and Sayaka for example is two characters that i would love to see interact more, their wishes and personalities create some very exciting potential for good storytelling and character development. The interactions through the series and TRS between everyone was amazing to watch and now with where we are at after TRS i'm very interested in seeing just how Sayaka mostly will be able to act around Homura, since she did after all say she'll no matter what never forget that Homura is a demon. They are bound to be near each other often in the case that Homura need to keep an eye on Madoka and keep her from ripping this reality apart with her regaining her memories. I share the interest with you on just how interesting everything is and can be between everyone and just how Homura and Madoka will be.

Now as you said Madoka get far, FAR too little credit for how strong she actually is and that people are unable to see past the tears. First, Madoka is about 13 years old people and while i'm not sure how everyone was back then i doubt many never cried at all at that age and few probably were under the same pressure as Madoka. That she didn't completely breakdown under that pressure is remarkable but not entierly suprising. I can't really fault anyone that doesn't realise just how strong Madoka is since her strength isn't at all the obvious one and i only realised it after a huge amount of thinking and novel reading. Madoka has to learn how unpleasant the world can be under some very dire circumstances and it really do suck for her to have to endure watching so many she care about suffer but that is also where she can draw so much strength from. It's her amazing ability to always care about people that make her an unstoppable force to be reckoned with. You need that kind of strength to even consider doing the sacrifice that she was willing to do in the series and that is something she deserves more credit for, just like Homura with her action in the end of TRS. PMMM/TRS really do spin the message that choices rarely ever are entierly black and white and the one action or decision comes with more than one set of outcomes and right now we are at just that point where we don't know exactly how Homura's choice will result in but the little bit we got was one delightful teaser! I just want to see Homura and Madoka and the rest more
