Not surprising, there are some similarities. Both are geniuses, with some quirks (with Yang being far more normal) and dark hair.
Both have epic antagonists (Light & Reinhard) and butt heads with them trough the entire (well..almost) series.

Let's just concede the second half was filled to burst with issues.
Though whoever cleared those Slime monsters has mental problems, it's not enough the camera always manages to get a shot of a majority of the female characters rears, but then they felt it necessary for Asuna to get molested ALOT!
So I liked Tokyo Ghoul. The music and animation were more than I was expecting, and the setup for the ghouls makes for an interesting psychological conflict. Seems pretty gory too, but too bad most of that was censored from where I watched it. The plot developments were obvious, but I think they served well to set up things going forward.
I watched another one called Sabagebu! because I heard it was funny. Apparently it was "pre-aired" for whatever reason. For the people who liked Binbougami, there's a main character who looks kinda like, acts kinda like, and has the same voice actor as Momiji, so that's pretty fun. There's also a platypus, and the narrator breaks the fourth wall like crazy.
Glad to hear that about Tokyo Ghoul, one of the animes i've got under observation and might just pick up!
About SAO and ALO etc etc etc
ALO is somewhere between terrible and mediocre and i don't know how i managed to watch it but i will never be able to forget it for a few reasons like the scene with the "big bad" towards the end when certain things happen. Also ALO really did its best at ruining Asuna from a pretty awesome character to average lovestruck damesel in distress #44. I would probably be less harsh on ALO if it didn't come directly after Aincrad and that arc because it was phenomenal. The contrast between the two is just massive and really did not do anything justice. Gotten even more harsh towards ALO by each anime i watch since SAO was the first anime i watched in years.. will judge the two arcs seperatly forever because i can't let the first half get ruined by the.. other half.
The first arc had a few problems but was otherwise great the second arc had a few good bits but was awful the rest of the time. I have no idea how I feel about season 2 but I hope it's better than alfheim.
I'll be horrifyingly suprised if it actually can be worse, i really do doubt it can be worse but i also don't believe it will be as good as the first arc. Somewhere in the middle and i'm perfectly alright
Problem is that they can never reach the stakes that Aincrad had without feeling silly or pointless. The first arc was a sick death game where the slightest screw up could kill you. It's hard to make a larger threat than that within a game.

I read your notes on Clannad this morning on my way to work. I very much agree with your assessment of the series and as usual very well written. I'm looking forward to your thoughts on after story since like I said previously is where the series really hits its stride but I definitely think you hit the nail on the head when you talked about how the show is based around the connections we make in our lives and the effect it has on us and others.

I think part of my "analysis" if you will, did slightly integrate into After Story a little bit but mostly because I've watched only a few episodes of it and thus felt compelled to reflect that in my supposed dissection of the anime's message and overall thoughts of it.
I'll post it here as soon as I'm done. I decided to take a short break because I usually savor the best experiences a bit so they don't go away too quickly and it's no secret this anime has managed to make me consider tearing up just a little bit.

I don't know if "ruined" is how I would put it. I'd say... wasted. It's not that the character is necessarily worse for it or that she went OOC. She just had potential and was put on ice for the sake of a really shitty plot device.About SAO and ALO etc etc etc

It did certainly try to make her as uninteresting as it possibly could. Asuna really didn't gain much at all during ALO but i suppose it could've been worse which is scary enough. Luckily the main focus was on our batshit insane Kirito and Suguha which i kinda consider the saving grace for the entire arc.

I quite enjoyed Ergo Proxy, the ending was rushed though (trying to jam too much into the final episodes). There was certainly some unanswered questions but it didn't detract from my enjoyment of it.
So far it seems quite good for what I expect of Cyberpunk, animation and choreaography is gorgeous, and finally the English voice acting is top notch -- Plus Dat Radiohead. HNNNNG

Well, this is quite.. unique
So gotten quite a bit into Death Note by now, going to be watching episodes 23-24 tonight and honestlthe first 1/3 was absolutely amazing and the 2/3 has been great but there are a few parts that i miss from the first 1/3 that can't really be replicated under different circumstances but the plot must move forward, always forward! That said the character development of some of the characters have been quite entertaining to watch and i've grown to like most of them in their own little crazy ways. I do miss Ryuk right now but Rem isn't so bad either, got the whole scary aura instead
