I got some MIND**** to clean out of my head since I recently finished ERGO PROXY. I was like AUUUUUUGHHHH MY MIIIIIND!!! I seriously need to watch/play happier anime and videogames. I joked with my friend, asked if he had Dance Central so I can loosen up. He said "Nah don't have it, not into those games". I'm feeling like Vincent Law right now. AARRGHHHHH!!

I really need to continue watching that. Other anime have distracted me from doing so.

Get back into the mind zone then!  lol.  Seriously, I scratched my head during the gameshow episode #15, then I grabbed my hair while watching #20 "GOODBYE VINCENT".  It puts Inception to shame! haha.  Great conclusion IMO.  I may buy the complete DVD set one day.  Goes on sale next week in fact.

Remember, here's the ordered playlist for your convenience.  What ep are you currently on?

So, do you guys think watching anime online for free screws the creators of the series out of money unfairly or is it just a product of the ridiculous prices they charge?

Not all of the prices are ridiculous. If you wait for the season/series sets they can be quite reasonable. Now this does not hold true when the studios try to release this stuff piecemeal. I refuse to pay 14.99 to 24.99 for a single disc containing 4-6 episodes. That is simply ridiculous (not really the word I was looking for, but this is more family friendly).

I purchase much of the anime I watch via Amazon. com and I like getting blu rays if they come in that flavor.

This is not always possible however. Series like Another just are not available over here, at least not yet.

But as for most products I enjoy, I prefer to pay for it if it is available for purchase.

It's better to buy something as long it's possible. The creators may not get much money from outside of Japan, but buying something from tells the studios what you want to see more of. A lot of anime has been made in the past because of the west, The Big O season 2 comes to mind.

But if prices are your problem, do what I do and look for good deals. There really is no reason to pirate unless it's the last and only way.

Then again I do have some Japanese volumes of manga... So if you are fine with something being in Japanese, then you could always import it.:police:

Basically this. But I'd add that it is a good thing if people see anime - that'll prepare the ground for buys.

I would never buy a series I haven't seen, and I feel it's universally good if I see as much as I can. :P

Be that as it may, the prices are indeed high, maybe rightfully so (which will of course stop me from buying all I want to see) - but what bothers me more is the lack of content to DVDs. What happened to good old art-books, written commentaries and stuff?

(btw, I do buy the series I've loved)

The last few episodes kind of made those episodes make a little more sense. I loved the ending.

So, to those of you who do know Japanese how did you learn it? Rosetta Stone? School? A friend who took pity on you? I want to learn the language I just don't know where to start.

Rosetta Stone.

But if you want to learn a language then first and foremost you must have some native-speaking language environment (anime and such will suffice), and then lots and lots of memory training (especially if trying to learn japanese - usually learning lots of words will suffice for the most part, but in Japanese you have to deal with much more).

I myself have taken one course in Uni. We learned all about Hiragana and Katakana in a week or so. This may seem a bit difficult at first, but after that comes the hard part. Learning how the language works, and most of all, Kanji. If all works out and you've keenly listened to and repeated stuff in japanese, for example stuff said in anime (for every sentence, 1. listen, 2. repeat and 3. see what the sentence means in subs and 4. try to memorize), and if you learn hiragana and katakana properly, this won't be too difficult to get pulled into. But to get to a good level of understanding takes years and years of hard training. I guess the best would be to learn some few courses worth' and then go to Japan for a while. That would make learning much much more efficient.

Yet I'd advise you to start out taking some internet course. Learning (especially languages) is all down to your activity and enthusiasm.

Anyway, just watched 4 episodes of Devil May Cry again (that soundtrack!)...

My last experience with it left me unsatisfied yet for whatever reason, this time I got pulled in.

4th episode was awfully done though.

I would also like to add that some of the money paid for this stuff does indeed go to the creators of the anime/manga. So to add a human face to it, when Logan gets his first manga made into an anime, we need to all purchase it so that he can support Mrs. Cloud and all the little Logan-lings.

There are people behind the products. Now if we can somehow circumvent the publishing company when we do this... so much the better!

I will support Logan!

...as long as Logan doesn't do a mech anime.

It's so hard deciding what animes are worth buying. I like every series I watch, otherwise I wouldn't watch them. I've probably watched over 30 series and the only ones that I've re-watched are all the Full Metal Panics (one of the very few mech animes I like), xxxHolic (it was the first series I ever got into), Elfen Lied (I don't know what draws me to this one so much), Samurai Champloo (Because it's Samurai Champloo and Big Windup (It's really a shame they're not dubbing past the first season). Out of all those I'd probably buy 2...maybe 3. It just doesn't make much sense to watch a series after you've seen all the episodes. It makes even less sense to pay for the privelege. If Funimation even hinted that they were considering changing their mind about Big Windup, I'd probably buy that in an instant though. If I saw some good merch I'd probably get it. I'm not sure if that money would go to the creator though...

All I've really heard about Japanese is it's a fun language to learn if you're into it. If you're not, you'll get chewed up and spit out.

Hellsing is overrated.

That said, the way distribution is set up in Japan is what fraks the anime industry.. Too many hands in it.

Yeah all of this.
The grammar is the really hard part.
I only know enough to more or less ask for directions and what foods I want to buy.=]

Oh and yeah the 4th episode of Devil May Cry kind of sucks if you have never played DMC 1 and 3.

I figured it was a faux pas to say anything positive about Bleach here, then again you just started watching it.

Bleach was good for 4 volumes and Freeza singing Life is Like a Boat is awesome. Those are the most positive things I can say about the series.

Kubo just likes to make fun of readers at this point.

If I wouldn't have watched much of Bleach already, I'd definitely start going through the series after this comment.

@Hanar - Japanese is definitely awesome to learn if you'd enjoy getting into an absurdly and mind-dazzlingly "different" language, yet one that is logically and via memory training doable. I love the depth and some unnecessary(wtf)-seeming stuff that's going on in their cultural sphere - the language explains and holds itself a lot of that.

But at the end of the day, learning japanese = awesome memory training.

@Some Geth
Yeah, haven't played any Devil May Cry. That would of course take some enjoyment out of watching, but what I really was referring to were the drawings and pacing. The 4th episode seemed so... clumsy... especially the second half of it.
