I would say Clannad, but that's a different kind of feel.
Not sure how I feel about the CGI transformation scene but otherwise I thought it was great.

alright, so i just didn't watch it at first because I thought it was a vore type of anime. and the people who made such a big deal out of it had no ideal that they were watching vore >A>
I rolled my eyes, and decided to ignore them. fast forward months later, i decide to give it a chance. it was my brother's convincing, he was like, "so you're not gonna watch it because it's popular?" know what I said? "yep." SO..i decided to watch it with him and I...i was not disappointed XD LOL!
it was really good! this was months ago though, I was just thinking about attack on titan today for no reason. I was wondering if there was gonna be any new episodes and there's not @__@ they said it'll be in 2015? if we're lucky eh? I can wait :3

Lawl, it's War and Peace, the scifi anime edition.
Sim, if you want the opposite of LotGH for a while, check out Irresponsible Captain Tylor. Similar art style, space opera aswell, but comedy.

None of them are particularly long as I tend to dislike long shows. I think the longest is Zeta at 50 episodes, the rest are 13 or 26.
Zeta is a classic, but if you don't like mecha shows or shows from the 80s you can probably drop it.
The Eva movies are fun, and easy to watch one at a time.
Kill la Kill is great if you like silly over the top awesomeness.
Lain is pretty great cyberpunk, pyschological drama.
PMMM is just great, if you can get into it. I wont say anything about it to avoid spoilers. If you give it a shot, at least watch up through episode 3.
And I'm currently watching When They Cry which is a curious horror show.
Like I said, these are kinda random things I've seen recently. If one catches your fancy, give it a shot for a few episodes, if it doesn't work for you, try something else.

Considering I had just recently completed Psycho Pass, I think trippy and interesting is favourable, followed by action, action and action. I'd rather not start something slow for a while now (have that covered in the manga department for now).

I also personally really liked the one TMH recommended: Serial Experiments Lain. That was one of my favorites when I could actually remember what happened in it, mind you it's... different.
