It's sort of intended to be a coming of age story. Being as vague as possible it sort of messes with the girls (as well as ours) perceptions of the world as they realize that nothing is strictly speaking black and white. I would probably recommend Titan first out of those three, though Kill la Kill is just as good. Titan is super cereal though.
SAO isn't that bad, but it doesn't lack things to gripe about. Its hype train is kinda insane though.

Its super hard to talk about PMMM without spoilers. But essentially, yes, there is more to it than what the promo art suggest.

I know your pain.
Same when L left the building.
It was like "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Game over. The show is over man!"
And in case of Death Note, L's successors couldn't fill the void.
In LOGH, the continuation is stronger.
But still... the void. The gaping, deep, black chasm left can never be fully filled.
RE "aku no hana" - I dig that art style. Frankly I wish more anime would move further away from the "giant eyes, space for rent and little loli's" template.
I will never forget the sexy, intellectual, philosophical and most of all, LADiolical that is, was, Yang Wenli :'-(

It seems that LotGH is something more for you. But to truly get into anime, you really just have to break the boundaries of age. In anime, almost anything is possible at any age.
However, it looks like you're an ASOIAF fan. Don't forget that Jon, Robb, Dany and Sansa are in their teens. And Arya is YOUNGER still 
Age is but a number! I'm 18 but I'd say my mind has developed to at LEAST the age of 14.
And that's a maybe.

Aldnoah has the potential to be the anime of the year. It has the best first episode of an anime i've ever seen too.

Tokyo Ghoul and Aldnoah both look very promising from their first episodes. I can't say much more because... there's only been one episode, haha.About the others though. But Aldnoah is written by Gen Urobuchi (Fate Zero, PMMM), and its music is by Hiroyuki Sawano (Attack on Titan, Kill la Kill, and Guilty Crown), so there's a little to calibrate your hype properly.
Tokyo Ghoul also has great music, though I don't recognize the composer. It complements the action incredibly well, just take the first scene for example. Great first impression.

I would personally say that Aldnoah is the anime i feel got the most promise to become something really memorable and not end up as just another anime in the large anime world. It got the right ingridents for something special and episode 1 showcased that they know how to use them well. It's really just how well they can use them and for the entire anime and not just one episode. But i got faith in Gen Urobuchi and with the people making the soundtrack being who they are i just can't see it fail.
