Also, if you've watched Gurren Lagann and liked it, then bonus points to the KLK recommendation.

If you haven't, well you should watch both.

The reason being that the studio that produced Kill la Kill rose out of the ashes of Gainax (ok, they technically still exist, lol) and Kill la Kill is often seen as a spiritual successor of sorts to Gurren Lagann.

 

I did see Gurren Lagann and I enjoyed parts of it, so that was a factor. I think some of them also did Diebuster also which was pretty cool, they all seem to fall into what my brain labels 'rocket anime.' They go for high impact, I'm never confused what's going on or likely to happen basically, but the Kamehamehas are just so fierce I feel compelled to pay attention. 

 

It can get depressing to me though, for example, Dead Leaves went way too far off-kilter for me to enjoy. Panty and Stocking also seems the same way although I didn't watch it. At a certain point, it just feels pure moxy can only get you so far without any real unwinding pathos.

 

KLK so far seems more on the balanced side of things though, Satsuki seems like the most interesting character to me so far.

Have you seen Detroit Metal City? It's more grounded in reality, and over the top in other aspects than your usual action anime, but the silliness and fast pace is there.

So I just watched episode 29 of LotGH during which Rubinsky goes on a rant about how horrible the people responsible for the Crusades were. LOL. I found this comment on Youtube after, thought it was pretty funny. 

 

 

 

so the guy helping to prolong a war that's killed untold hundreds of millions is going on about how awful the people committing the crusades were?not even welders could get through irony that thick.

I can never comprehend the fascination with those silent, grumpy, "badass" characters.

All Satsuki does is drink tea, look down on everyone and display (underserved) superiority.

I guess I got tired of it after a while.

Long black coats, black glasses, cigars, mean attitude, never smiling, brutality, etc, etc.. - all those "cool" and "badass" things stopped feeling badass, and started feeling cheap for me.

 

 

 

 

Okay, I needed that after an episode of feels. I was so torn over youknowwho that I forgot just how great a character Reinhard is (I still don't know where you got the d*ck from. I hope he doesn't do a 180, Lotion.)

 

But yeah, he did...something... and for once, in an entire 90 episodes, you see him lose his cool and blush like a schoolgirl. It was hilarious! xD

 

Though I'm disappointed. I was sure he was gay, unless what he did he did out of sheer need for comfort and sought it to whomever was there. The series doesn't really specify he's gay, but it doesn't really do anything to suggest against it either.

 

I dunno. Could be I think that way because he's arrogant and because he WANTS TO RULE THE GALAXY. He took the throne. He freed his sister. He got everything. But it's not enough. He could have stopped the war at any time. But he doesn't want to. He is convinced he is the perfect ruler for everyone.

 

And yeah. He and Kirchias...screaming gay. Just wait till you watch one of the side series/movies.

No, but I did hear a review on anime-pulse sometime ago and it sounded potentially pretty great. I guess I might check it out sometime.

Hm I wouldn't say I'm fascinated with her just yet (4 eps. in). I think she has reminded me so far of some kind of empress leader type which I'm finding kind of addicting in general. For instance, I've been playing Valkyria Chronicles and Selvaria Bles has this highly autocratic but sympathetic vibe that is really interesting to me. I could potentially be ascribing more value to her character at the early date in order to keep my own interest going though. I also saw Maleficent recently and liked Jolie's take on that sort of character.

 

If we're talking about someone like Squall Leonheart in the end though, I agree completely, FF8 was probably my least favorite FF for that reason, an emo loner with really no redeeming qualities. I guess I'll see one way the other.

Only 4 episodes in? But she does so really little in the first episodes.

 

I understand that some characters have a "vibe" - could be visual, could be an idea that one likes, could be the idea of the POTENTIAL of what that character could be.

Kinda like Bobba Fett.

For the life of me I couldn't figure out why he's so popular. He had 5 minutes of screentime and 2 lines.

Had time last night, so I watched The End of Evangelion.  Here are some short impressions.

Overall, much more pleased with it than the TV shows last 2 episodes.  I can see why many essentially skip the last 2 episodes and go straight to EoE. 

 

I'll start with the good.  The ending was straightforward, easy to follow, and while it still had me going "lolwut?" during the entire instrumentality section, I find it was actually quite happy with it overall.  The movie had some GREAT moments, and some that I will genuinely remember for quite some time.  Of those, I found Asuka's near inaudible whimpering "I don't want to die" absolutely chilling.  A good example of scene held to well beyond the point of making the viewer unconformable being executed to maximum effect.  I also really liked the ending scene.  I feel it had more of an impact than the entire instrumentality segment.  But perhaps that is only because it came after the instrumentality segment?  Hmmmm. 

 

Now the not so good.  Like the ending of the TV series, EoE suffers from some unfortunate cases of Narm.  Again this mainly a failure of the instrumentality segment.  It just feels like the director is trying too hard to me.  Lots of musings and seemingly unrelated visuals, and and excess of soundtrack dissonance again lead to some definite, unintended lolz.  I mean seriously, look at this this thing! (Probably NSFW).  But really, that was my only complaint about the movie.

 

On a side note, I can kinda see how some feel that the Rebuilds are a post instrumentality reboot/alternate timeline after seeing EoE.  So that was interesting.

 

 

So, spoiler free conclusion.  Overall I liked it.  It had some OUTSTANDING moments, and was in general more satisfying than the TV series ending.  However, it still suffered from some of the same issues the TV show did (see spoiler section).  I'd say I probably fall into the group that recommends EoE instead of the last 2 episodes of the TV series, as I feel they add nothing of value.  And still, as of Eva Rebuild 3.33, I think the Rebuilds still tell a better story.

 

Anyways, that was fun, on to the next show!

SNARK, she's really entertaining when she unleash her sarcastic and snarky side at anyone that just happen to be in the way. 

The way she's arrogant and the way that she can act as she's the best.. besides Lady Satsuki of course is another part of her that i like.

Really just like her design aswell and the theme with her. It just mesh in a sense that i really can approve of. I had her as an avi for a rather long time so obviously her design really did well with me 

Nonon Jakuzure got the right "vibe" with me for so many reasons!

Well, anime slapstick humor is definetly an acquired taste, so unless you aren't into that, you should pass. Or not, since it's just about 2 hours overall.

Zankyou No Terror (Terror in resonance) had a rather solid first episode. They decided to start it off with quite a bang so not a chance that it will be a slow moving anime at all. The episode raises a lot of questions that i know they will most likely answer later in the season so Zankyou will absolutely be one of the animes that i will follow this season. Hopefully the last one i add to the bunch.. The choice of art style gives of a bit of bleakness which at least from the first episode really seems to fit with what was shown! The anime doesn't really remind me of any that i've watched so far, granted one episode really doesn't say much. Closest might be Death Note but even DN is a bit away. Will just have to watch more to be able to say either way
