If only the anime toned down the moe highschool bullshit and amped the mystery aspect like the OVA did, I'd say Suzumiya Haruhi was actually pretty good. Alas, I've endured Endless Eight and Mikuru Beam, so nope.
Are the visual novels akin to the OVA, or the anime?

None of the Haruhi games are translated, as far as I know.
If you mean the light novels, I wouldn't know since I am illiterate. But no one ever asked me to be literate for light novels' sake, anyway.

Only light novel series I've considered reading is Spice and Wolf, but that's only because I've heard the anime is so woefully incomplete, but because of that I haven't bothered watching said anime, and because of that I've never bothered with the novels either.

The Spice and Wolf novels are good, the plot can get really into intrigue on the economical side.
Too bad the translations make the whole experience painful.
But the plot and character interactions are key.

Code Geass is progressing and some really interesting stuff did happen and i feel the coming episode or so will shift the balance of things completely. It's been brewing for a while now! Not that many episodes left actually, only about 10!
Clannad on the other hand just delivered the first real punch and i don't think this is something that one can really be ready for and even though it was stated it would happen for 3-4 episodes it still was something that really did give me feels.

Clannad is not disappointing and it feels rather awesome to finally get a taste of it.. and it scare me on what might come in the future. I'm not prepared!
