I have actually never seen Cowboy Bebop  nor Sailor Moon. The only 90s one I have actually watched is Trigun.

 

Well Bebop is easy to digest, if it were to be drawn in western comic cartoon art style, people wouldn't know it's an anime.

Going to have to agree with Khayness completely. As much as I adore Madoka Magica, I have this little bug nipping the back of my brain on being bothered about the idea of people starting with it, and then shunning the played straight magical girl series afterwards. I've given the deconstruction speech before though so I'll just stop right there.

But to start with, I really think Death Note is a great introduction to the world of anime. It brushes away any doubts of it being 'pokemon' and is a great watch until episode 26 where it gradually descends into a decent watch.

 

But you're basically watching it for one person and one person alone...

Puddi: Oh yeah and I totally expect a genre to not be for everyone (looking at you harem series in my case). It's kind of hard to properly put it into words but it's something that's kind of been playing on my mind lately. Maybe it stems from getting started in the medium ages ago, I don't know... Starting with deconstructions just kind of makes my head feel a little weird since half the potential shock value of "Well this is going a different way than what I'm used to. Wheee" kind of seems like it would be hampered a bit. Like I said, tough to explain.
