Not really surprised Trünicht betrayed everyone for his own good. Still a shame though, and I can also understand why Reinhard was not really pleased with the victory. Afterall he himself did not win. Yang was the winner of that fight, not Reinhard, and had that ceasefire order not come, Yang would have fired and ended the war. Oh well, least it ended on a fuzzy note.

Well, humans are living aboard a sort of space station called Sidonia after Earth was attacked by an alien race called the Gauna centuries ago. Supposedly, they're trying to get to a star system in order to colonize but they're still in enemy territory so they constantly have to defend themselves from the Gauna using space-mechs called Gardes. Cue in our protagonist, Nagata Tanikaze, who has spent most of his adult life living on his own in a forgotten sector of Sidonia, training to use these mechs since he was a kid at the behest of his late grandfather. When he finds himself "above ground" he's suddenly inducted into the pilot corps for the Gardes at the request of a mysterious benefactor. The series follows him as he adjusts to life above ground and trains and fights the Gauna.

I did. It's pretty cool except when they're not fighting the cthulhu aliens in their mechs. I've come to understand that the protagonist is actually a high-functioning potato in terms of his personality. I could do without some of the relationship cliches and one really stupid (and crucial) moment. (which actually was during a battle)

 

But I think they utilized the CG pretty well for the space battles and also the setting in general has some interesting quirks. Bear-people isn't one of them, though. I really didn't need her to be there. As a bear. Gross.

 

Damn, and here I was hoping Tanikaze would come into his own.

 

I like that the space battles seem to be more grounded in physics and that the Gardes aren't simply invincible machines. That's probably why I liked the Apollo 13-like episode most of all. There was one moment of a certain battle, now that you mention it, that hasn't been brought up since. I would have thought the engineers would've realized afterwards and mention it at some point but nothing's transpired so far. Is that the moment you were referring to?

 

EDIT: Agree about the bear part, it's just distracting and doesn't really add anything.

Sounds like another mech show. I am not a fan of the large Gundam style robots. I prefer the smaller Escaflowne style.

Other than my brother's heretical dislike of Rebellion, I enjoyed rewatching it and the series.

 

Though, if I watch it again, I'm making a counter of how many Shaft Leans and how many Homura Hair Flips there are.

Well, there's another season, so who knows. It wasn't so bad that I won't continue watching it anyway. Granted, that takes a lot of "bad" for me.

 

The part I'm referring to...ahh how to say without spoiling too much.

It has to do with a 'private' communication channel that really isn't something that should logically exist in a military craft. The whole aftermath hinges on no one else knowing about this private communication, even though the command center obviously should have known. That's leaving aside how unbelievably stupid it made that person out to be to screw the mission over something so petty, and Tanikaze for just taking it because who needs pride and justice anyway, just give me food and I'm happy.

 

I'm not sure if that's the part you're referring to. Otherwise I'm curious what you are referring to, about the engineers I mean.

Ah, so that's what it was. Lol, I actually thought he'd tampered with Tanikaze's mech so as to lock him out of certain audio channels when it was so much simpler than that! Actually, that makes this whole situation even worse. It makes Command look stupid and Kunato extremely petty but Tanikaze takes the prize for not even caring to explain what really happened.

 

EDIT: Btw, can you actually watch the intro video I posted? It says it's blocked worldwide. Oh, well.

Yeah, it's blocked.

 

And yeah, that was pretty much the worst moment in the anime. There's some good stuff toward the end.

 

Have you read the manga by any chance?
