I think Fate/Zero is pretty good as a stand alone series, and there is no need to watch Fate/Stay Night unless you want to.  If you like it, you might consider looking into the VN.

Fate/Zero works fine as a standalone. Knowing the storyline of Fate/Stay will add some emotional payoff but it really isn't necessary to appreciate Fate/Zero.

I sort of feel bad for how many people judge Zero based on Stay considering how different in quality they are.

I'd give Zero a 9/10 well Stay would be a 5 or maybe a 6/10

As much as I love Mami this is a no contest for me. I mean Homura is one of the most thought provoking and polarizing characters in anime. People have long and passionate debates about her and have written mini-novels about her character (including a number of users here)

 

Unless we are talking fighting wise, cause that's a different story.

Ok that's a tough one then. I think Homura's powers are more dangerous but it's situational. In the Mami/Homura fight Mami had the advantage of knowing what Homura's powers are and was prepared to counter it right from the start. I think Homura is basically unbeatable unless you're prepared to directly counter her like Mami was or your basically nearly unkillable the way Wulpurgis was.

 

It sort of reminds me of the whole Batman vs Superman thing, sure Superman is the stronger of the two, but given the chance Batman knows how to play to Supermans weaknesses to defeat him so it sort of becomes situational.

Kyouko beats Mami in a serious fight using a very similar tactic that Mami used to beat Homura ironically enough.

I was impressed with Mami in regards to that and I'm glad we got to see her A game since it becomes easy to forget that she was actually a very tough Mahou Shoujo. I mean it does sort of make sense, she did survive for like 2 years fighting against Witches on her own.

Yeah. The story mainly focuses on Homura, so I sometimes forget that she can fight.

After a 10+ episode marathon I finally finished LotGH last night. Has anyone watched some of the prequel side story stuff? Is it worth checking out?

Live action Silmarillion?

 

I don't knooow.... I mean, the action would be fantastic, but everything else?

 

Maybe it'd be an episodic trilogy? (If that would work, anyway.)

 

I know Beren and Luthien, The Children of Hurin and The entire Noldor arc within Aman would make great films, but there is soooooo much going on, I don't really know how they'd do it.

 

The good thing about the Silmarillion is that it allows for a lot of creative freedom given the way it's written. Tolkein states that the Noldor travelled from x to y using b and z but never does he go into the specifics since he's really writing a history, not a story.

 

Bingo. I was thinking of maybe a miniseries for each.

It would. I could only imagine the amount of "No"s Christopher Tolkien could fit in a letter. He already regrets the PJ films.

 

 

You're right about that. The art-style would need to be spot on, however. More Bebop than Champloo, but overall, it'd have to have something akin to LotGH's. But no one can fault the way he handles animation, it's bloody brilliant.

 

Man, see, this is why we need to form a Genshiken club, join up, and create a Silmarillion manga in order to get an anime!

I'm surprised nobody mentioned the Record of Lodoss war, before. It borrows quite a lot from Tolkien's world (well, that and DnD).

Funny that you mention that. The way I hear how Brazilians (or some other minorities) in Japan are treated sounds a lot like Afghans in Iran.

 

 

It's sad that many people make fun of Afghans (or rarely) mistreat them because they speak a different accent while they do hard works with very low income.

Yeah. I can understand (at least with language) since my Farsi has an "Afghan" sound to it and my relatives make fun of me for it, in good spirit, though. Learning a language sucks. Same thing with some Mexican immigrants here in the States. 

 

On the bright side, the situation isn't as bad as 30-40 years ago when segregation was essentially institutionalized. Compared to some neighboring countries (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar), Iran looks like a beacon of cultural tolerance.

 

Now, I can only imagine how foreign students in Japan feel about their grasp on language...

So now my only complaint would be Shinpachi. I love him when he's all Otsu-mad, but 80% if the time it's him screaming out the obvious. I know it's his 'role' but it can be annoying if you watch at least 7 episodes a day like I do.

 

Hey, his character is more than glasses and stating the obvious! He alarms us about very bizarre and abnormal moments and dialogues, plus sometimes they're not that obvious!

He is kinda an over-exaggerated anime twin of mine in personality!
