Otakon pictures and stuff time!!!Who am I, Sim?Well not right now anyway.

So I would have more/better pictures but my goodish camera only had a little bit of room left for pictures. So most of these are from my crappy cell that takes sh!tty pics. Some are okay tho. I am just gonna post them all here with a little commentary on them. Oh and I am only going to keep them up for like 2 or 3 days.

On Saturday I went and saw One Piece Film Z it was pretty good. I have seen it before but this was the dub of it so I wanted to see that. I will say a few things about the dub first.

The cast of the Straw Hats are always good. Ray Hurd was pretty good as Borsalino seeing as he is a newer voice actor but nothing can beat Japanese Borsalino who has the voice of an angel.

Jeremy Schwartz was great as Zephyr. The accent really fit his character as a Marine Admiral and instructor. Matthew Mercer as Binz was nothing like anything he has ever done before. lol Lauren Landa was okay as Ain too.

I have said before I think this was the best One Piece and I still think that. It's really more a movie about Zephyr than it is about Luffy and his gang and that's okay. The plot is simple but it works. Great animation during the fights. You can tell Toei didn't give a sh!t about the show when they were working on this. lol

Also gonna add it was pretty fun watching it with 100s of fans.

So yeah I had a lot of fun this Otakon.

And I will keep having fun at Otakon until those monsters take it from us and put it in Washington. Those monsters.

So I've been catching up on Zankyou no Terror. It was very odd at the beginning because I got the sense there was something larger at play for our main characters and episode 5 seems to confirm my suspicions. I particularly like the police trio of Shibazaki, Mukasa, and Hamura. There's a lot of mystery still to uncover to keep me interested so I guess I'll have to stick to it and see whether it delivers.

I miss the classic tv shows such as Gundam 08th MS and other Gundam shows. it would be nice if they could re-run the shows on tv again for that "young" feeling

So I saw Sword Art Online up to episode 15. Honestly, even if the rest of the anime was just an image of a pie (ok, maybe not quite that), I'd say it was a lot more fun than KLK. Probably better than most anime around these days, even.

Not to necessarily stir up a bees nest or anything, just my opinion.

It would be interesting if SAO really is that much less fun in the second half though because as far as I can tell that's exactly the same situation with Accel World, which is by the same author. Kind of his unique style, I guess.

I know so many people who would disagree.

And only one other person who would agree.

But he's my brother, so...

I thought we discussed this? Does your brother want to get tortured?

I do enjoy all of those tbh, but Zankyou and Akame ga Kill not being on there (should replace Sabagebu and SAO2) is a crime.

Ah geez no NO STOP! You need your kidneys! =/

Ah, well, nonetheless... ahem. I guess it was just they didn't seem like Kirito and Asuna were the typical soft anime characters (although they had those traits also). They were pretty bada$$, it felt different.

I still haven't watched the whole thing though, so, I guess things could change... especially if what everyone says is true about the 2nd half.

I always give *likes* to rebel scum.

P.S. I don't intend to watch any of those shows anytime soon if ever.

Oh it's your opinion and all, which is fine. I don't actually dislike SAO the anime as much as some others here, but I think Kirito in the anime is pretty empty of a character outside of the introverted trait which is pretty typical. Asuna is pretty good. But then there's the pacing of it, and lots of problems with the 2nd half...

But KLK to me is just on a different level, especially if we're talking "fun". I really have hardly any complaints about it at all, except the fanservice is a little crazy before you get used to it (SAO tentacle/harem stuff is worse). But regarding what you said... were you implying KLK does employ these "typical soft anime characters"? Aside from me not being sure what that even means, which ones?

<Spoilers everywhere>

KLK is full of bursting natural energy and spirit, but without that harsh context that SAO has (we're gonna die, etc) it feels slightly overindulgent, as in, there isn't a really pressing horror in their lives (cept towards the end, I guess) Another thing is I feel the KLK characters are soft (like Ryuko and Mako) because they're kind of all in it together in the end. The Big Four and Satsuki were all just "training" them in the end, and the beach guys were all also fighting with Ryuko and Mako. Kiryuin was so deranged, I didn't really feel worried about her, and I feel like they had an easier choice to fight. Even the crazy violent portions like getting shot at in the van to school felt like it was really a joke, I wasn't worried about them actually dying so it was a different kind of heroism.

SAO just seemed like a scarier place, some people lost their minds and committed suicide, some people turned to killing others, some were dealing with the stigma of being beta testers, they had no idea what was happening outside with their families/friends/lives, so when Asuna and Kirito found friendship and romance it seemed a lot more impactful. I didn't think it was fighting to be funny it was fighting out of a real sense of danger.

Anyway though, I'm not holding out SAO as a pantheon of anime, but I was surprised how the seemingly bland surface gave way to some fairly exciting moments.

<More spoilers> The one thing about KLK that I enjoyed more than SAO was the ability to summon a kind of spectacularly knowing moment or scene, for instance, the episode about Mako's family getting more money and becoming more disconnected at the same time, it felt really intense because that just seemed really real and raw. There wasn't really an oh my god what a crazy idea moment in SAO, but it there was like a malign intensity to the proceedings that amplified the still somewhat substantial ideas.

I feel the same thing about Evangelion though, there are moments where I'm not sure I've seen anything like it in any other anime, but there are so many inconsistencies and kind of, timidity that I don't know where to place them.
