Arpeggio was kinda of unique and interesting, it's also a lot more recent than most. Takao is best ship.
I think my favorite of the most recent was probably Witchcraft Works, It's got murderous mechanical bunnies and such.

I am the first to admit that I hate mech animes, but I just watched the first episode of Aldnoah...and damn...so freaking good.
I wouldn't say that I hate mech anime, but I'm not a fan. I'll still give it a whirl if the rest of the show is good. So I guess I watch mecha in spite of the giant robots not because of them. And I have been really enjoying Aldnoah as well, my only real complaint is the space nazi villains.
I don't mind small mech animes because those make sense. What bugs me is giant Gundam style ones.

I don't know why anyone would really hate a mech anime anyway. Mecha just means that there are probably a ton of Gundams, or whatever they're called. It doesn't really correlate with the quality of the anime, does it? Look at Magical Girls, you have a few out there that are brilliant, no? Or do mecha animes follow a certain trend?

Oh right.
Hey Sim.
I did love you...
Once.
Ignore Geth, bro. He's jealous. But that only ever strengthens our ship.
And oh, getting back to Gintama again. Episode 202 is just...
God I love this f*cking show.
Our bro-ship reach far beyond what normal mortals can understand! It's eternal!

About mecha animes, they weren't my thing until Aldnoah came around and i later watched Code Geass. Now it's instead a genre that i very much like and always look for more shows to watch. All it needed was some Gen magic!
So I finished arpeggio. It good some decent characters, great soundtrack and some amazing action sequences. It has it's problems though.
It's in medias res so there are many things I don't understand such as why some people are there or what has happened in the last two years. While the fog characters are well developed (mostly) the human characters are almost completely ignored with an exception of the surprisingly decent protagonist. The plot is a mess while this could be the fault of the aforementioned it's in the middle thing in 12 episodes very little is done. The quality of the animations also jump around in quality a lot from this gorgeousness
to bad source film maker level quality (which I really should have screen shoted). The ending is also a bit anti climatic but thankfully it's getting 2 movies and a sequel soon so I won't have to deal with it for long. I do suggest you watch it but you may want to wait for more content first. Also best character is Haruna. Shazam.

I just don't find unnecessarily prolonged fight scenes appealing which I think is more prevalent in mecha than other genres. Not to mention that there is always the one robot that is god tier.

That's a fair argument. However, just because mecha usually follows certain trends, it's not fair to label them all like that. There are some brilliant mecha animes which uses mecha for its narrative rather than revolve itself around it.
Besides, prolonged fights are common in most anime. It's really a b*tch. I'm still recovering from that 6 episode "battle" from Naruto's first season. Good thing they improved on that drastically afterwards, because that was some of the most boring bits of TV I've ever had the misfortune of viewing.
P.S Anyway, yeah, for people who love symbolism, deep sub-text, gothic undertones and questions that challenge humanity, sex and society go watch Shinsekai Yori, it's a very good anime, and kind of unique too.
It's also very pretty.
Not Fate/Zero pretty.
But still pretty.
I'd like Chris to watch it just to give me my daily dose of crack for the brain.
This is what I mean by sex by the way, it handles it very well and maturely to raise questions and challenge contemporary crap that makes sex seem like taboo.

If you listen closely, you can hear G.R.R Martin slowly applauding like the gentleman he is.
It's high on my to do list.

Shinsekai is one of the animes i'm considering after Fate/Zero. It and 15 others but that shouldn't be too hard to pick from. Worse with picking what to watch after Clannad..

{edit} LOL. My internet died mid post.
Maybe I should start watching some more Anime again. Lately, I have been on a RvB binge.

I meant the...
Nevermind xD
@General
See, this is what I get for travelling at 4am >< (aka, tiiiirrred as fuaark)
I never meant you specificity, sorry xD I just get the whole 'I hate x' thing a lot when a genre can provide a number of possibilities. Especially when a genre really only revolves around people using Mechas, not how they use it or how the narrative uses them.

I can't wait for you to wrap it up bro, there are so ultra feels moments from thereon. It is THE feel anime, really. Angel Beats hasn't got squat for what's about to come.

I don't hate them all together since I like TTGL. I am just picky with it.
Is there any Anime that has project freelancer type of fights? Quick action packed ones with dodging bullets and shooting back while moving everywhere.

Black Lagoon.
For amazing sword fights watch Samurai Champloo. Here's a snip at what they're like. Hardly any spoilers since it's from the first episode.
Aaaaand I just realised Mugen is Hijikata >< xD
Oh, and I watched this dubbed cos Steve Blum is awesome.

Always rate fights from 1 to samurai champloo.
TY. I'll give those a shot.
Man I miss Black Lagoon.
