The biggest weakness of Saint Seiya is the main character.

Lost Canvas has it bad, but it has great art and many great scenes. So LC is actually pretty good, all things considered.

 

Now SS: Omega - now there's a storm of utter bull***. It's insulting my intelligence with such craptastic explanations of things and infantile moral bashing.

 

I'm probably very biased - I wated Saint Seiya with an italian dub, and they did a great job of giving the dialogue a homearian (greek epic) / chivalric vibe.

 

So personally, my order of prefference:

- Original SS

- Neptune and Asgard arcs

- Sanctuary

- Lost Canvas

- Hades

-

-

- movies (all of them suck)

- Elysium and Omega

 

I'd watch Asgard in a heartbeat if someone properly translated/released it. I heard Frozen felt like a rip off version of Asgard Saint Seiya for people that have seen it. The whole original Saint Seiya series seems wildly underknown and still very interesting.

You know the crowning moments of stupid in SS: Omega?

 

A guy with a sword that cuts trough anything vs a guy with a spear that pierces trough anything. The word guy wins and explain why: Because the one who uses his weapon first always hesitates. Literaly, that was the craptastic explanation (even tough the spear guy loved using his weapon and never showed any hesitation at all)

Ikki hitting a guy with his Genma Ken (Mind Fu*kery) and he escapes it's effect by HITING HIMSELF IN THE HEAD WITH HIS SWORD and "deliberately damaging his brain"... yet suffering no adverse effects from brain damage at all.

To be honest, Ikki was so powerfull a character that they are constantly nerfing him and making up retarded excuses why his attack doesn't work, each more redicolous than the next.

The writers are quite honestly clueless as hte show is FULL of stuff like that.

 

Then you have the whole "power of youth" train. And oh boy, does Omega have it bad. If youth were a person, Omega would be giving it blowjobs and obsessively follow it and praise it.

It introduced the whole "limitless power of youth" crap with the "only young poeple with lots of friends can achive the ULTIMTE COSMO" (which is more ultimate that what everyone before achieved) and uber-fast rise to power.

At last the original saints fought LONG and hard to achive gold-saint level power. It took them a lot longer to go beyond (and only did it with a stupid McGuffin). But these kids..they go from 0 to the strongest ever in record time.

 

The show is so in-your-face with it's kiddy morals and messages it HURTS.

 

And lets not forget the redicolous names of some attacks. For some unfanthonably stupid reason they decided to re-name Galaxian Explosion to Galaxian Ultimation.... WTF does that even mean?

Aldnoah.Zero is just as unbelieveable as it can be. This weeks episode was near-perfect and it kept my interest from start to finish and never came close to losing it. The attention to details that's been seen throughout this season were of the same quality as always and it's very clear now that the team creating this show are very well aware of the importance of smaller things. Besides already adoring Inako i'm really growing to like Rayet and her absolutely merciless view of Martians and a dear character of the show. Absolutely enamored with Aldnoah and 7 days just keep feeling like a longer period than before.

The episode had so much happen in it that it's really hard to give it a good summary without feeling that i would neglect any part of what happened. I really approve on just how the show right now handle both the Princess but also the other characters, Rayet especially right now got so many possible paths to walk but for now i'm 100% approving of her treatment of the princess and the Martians, someone just gotta be that person and she does it so well. That the Martians managed to get their hands on Slaine was something that i didn't expect given the humans closeness to the scene but a course of action that greatly improved the storyline of Aldnoah and much better than anything that i speculated on earlier with humanity learning from his ship and information from him. It got even better with the very harsh torture he recived from the hands of Lord Cruhteo who is also another character that really took several step forward in todays episode. I absolutely had him pegged as part of the traitors and the revelation towards the end really did suprise me in a good way. However he's most likely dead but i'm not going to count him out, especially not after todays episode really proving that what i expect is rarely what actually happen. Saazbaum is a character that i'll really start paying more attention to, that guy is not messing around!

Not that I disagree with the overall sentiment, mind you, and the scenes definitely served a number of roles that went beyond mere sadism, but I'll admit I had a little shiver when I read that you found the episode near-perfect.

 

(Yes, yes, I'm aware that the scenes were positively tame compared to Game of Thrones and others. Torture is a tricky thing in fiction, and I believe Aldnoah pulled it off to narrative benefit without indulging in some of the failure tropes.)

Granted, I knew Bulat was gonna die for weeks now, but even though I loved his character so freaking much, I felt his death didn't have as much...impact as Sheele's. I had known she was bound for death as well, but even still, my heart was racing and pulse was pounding during episode 6 when she died. Bulat's death just left me kinda...hollow.

Halfway through Bakemonogatari and while it did take 2-3 episode before i managed to get on the same track as the show it's been one crazy ride so far. It's a show with some very, very interesting quirks that I just can't help but love. It's the first show since PMMM that has managed to make my mind almost warp itself which I would say is really in its favor. It's really entertaining with jokes that i'm all about
