I'd say go for the original TV Series. I liked the reboot and they've got the graphics at a very high quality, but I prefer the original. Part of it's length. You'll get a better sense of the characters and the world through 26 episodes over the 3 movies' length. Then try the reboot filmsWait what? Great now i'm confused again. I thought I had figured it out.......

I liked all the Kaworu stuff in the Rebuild movies.
So you all better watch those movies after the bad budget ending and the better budget ending movie.
Because Rebuild Kaworu will give you all hard budgets in your pants that will need some rebuilding after.
@Bro you sure were not joking when you said that the Leviathan arc in Gosick was pretty awesome. This is the arc that I've been hoping to encounter all along. The best developed of the ones so far and we learned an insane amount of stuff along the way too. That and VIKTORIIIIKAAA/Kujo really are almost too perfect together
Glad to see this place is still kicking.
EVA is essentially where Kojima partially got his inspiration for Sons of Liberty from, that and Ghost in the Shell, probably Blade Runner and a few other titles that discuss human philosophy. Together they also share a post-modern take on storytelling devices.
Whatever one might say about the anime's protagonist, I definitely think it's an incredible thought provoking piece of entertainment for sure.
I should get on with Count from Monte Cristo myself.
Yeah a lot things from around that time took inspiration from Eva.
And yes as someone that is neutralish to the series I always say it's at least worth a watch. If only for Kaworu.
Heck, even non-anime fans have probably heard TEH EVA theme song. Also, once one has watched it -- One should watch Gigguk's abridge of the films (so far).

Was surprised to learn how expensive a season is though. I knew it would be high but dam.
When I heard Kojima had talked about the project I started to believe they would be able to fund it just because how large of a crowd that follow Kojima around actually is. That said I'm really happy to see it reach the goal and a bit more with the hours that are left.
The high profile crew also helped. Would not surprise me if Yusuke and Jiro fame also helped.

So I watched the Benizakaru arc Movie from Gintama.
I swear it's worth it just for the end.
In the anime, Katsura and Gintoki fighting back-to-back was awesome.
