Started watching Fullmetal Alchemist a few days ago (the original one) and I can see why it highly recommended by many.
It is a very solid show, with well rounded protagonists, colorful characters, interesting setting with well developed plots and underlying themes as well as being full of heart, which can make one laugh and cry in a single episode. The equivalent trade concept is rather well developed throughout the series so far, both in the state of alchemy and on the two brothers concept of life. I do like how the show does portray them as kids and their general perception of the world is rather naive and there is potential for growth which is stimulated by events and characters around them.
Love this guy specifically. Colonel Roy Mustang is a badass, as well as the people surrounding him.

I do have one dissatisfaction with the show, which is a personal one, and that is the overall plot line. I care very little personally over the brothers quest for the Philosopher's Stone and the villains. I actually find myself being more interested in Mustang's rise to power throughout the ranks and his actions with his squad rather than Edward and Alphonse journey. At least it is enjoyable, but just my personal feelings on the matter.
Anyhow, up to episode 30, going to be interesting to see how it turns out.
Side note: I was aware there were two anime shows, but didn't know they were similar, with one being loosely based on the manga and the recent one more accurately adapted. Had I known that before I started I would have watched Brotherhood instead. Ah well. I haven't regretted watching FMA, and now I at least have a reason to return and watch Brotherhood whenever I get the feeling to "rewatch" the show.
