Aye. I did read the very first light novel which was fan translated and it was quite poor in quality. Though I shouldn't be complaining, since at least I can read them. Not in favor of buying the official ones, they are pricey as hell!

Really? They only cost me like 10/12 quid.

On a completely unrelated note, finished Episode 22 of Gintama, the one with the assassin chick was introduced. Proved to be the funniest and craziest one so far imo.

Hm, it's interesting the see the number of more recent anime in there, such as KLK and Attack on Titan. There are also some I haven't seen like Log Horizon and legend of the legendary heroes, actually to be honest I had not heard of them or seen anything about them before.

The only one that I'm sort of surprised not seeing more of is Stein's Gate, a lot of people seem to really like that one. It's probably because it's an anime about scientists and there's a lot of scientist-like anime fans out there. Or maybe the cross-dressing, or the time travel... er... yeah I don't know.

Apparently I hadn't even added it to the list. *does it now*. Though it will be quite a while before I get to watch it. The list isn't remotely small by now

For a light novel, I consider it rather expensive, since if I read ones it tend to be around 5.00-7.00€ that I buy them for. But then again, I am picky with books in general.

Hemorrhoid ninjas? Oh dear...

Be ready to cry some more, since the manga is not up to date on the English translation. If you want to continue, you'll need to start reading the light novels.

Damn. Ahh well, I can wait.

Figured some people would like this- especially the Grand Champion at the end.

It's kind of like Showdown of Ultimate Destiny, but anime style. Without the lyrics.

So. Aldnoah.

It was an entertaining episode, action packed and all, but I definitely feel it was one of the weakest to date. A real victim of pacing concerns- understandable, considering the cour 1 finale is next week, but no less real.

Contrivances occur in all anime, but sometimes they're just... well, a product of rushing. Some were animation short cuts (the princess's air mask headband that goes straight through the ear, bullet-proof storage containers that somehow stand up to giant robot fire, a loli character somehow being able to drive a military vehicle her feet wouldn't hit the peddals of), some were just excuses to get persona A to plot point B (like the convenient intact mech falling into a prison cell for a redemption cell), some were just a reflection of the focus of the core cast (the extra voiced squad members who exists solely to die during the drop sequence- they never even had names or background appearances beforehand!), and so on. Slaine didn't even exploit the easily apparent foreshadowing of getting his own mech.

Don't get me wrong- it was a fun episode, thanks to generally slick animation and mostly due to a really sick sound track. I could even appreciate the Princess's character arc, in which she's gradually realizing that Vers is just plain awful, rather than the idea of 'a few bad apples.' But it's definitely a weak episode, and I just hope that the finale is respectable.

Weak for Aldnoah or weak in general?

I want to watch this so badly so I hope it's not one those "great when it starts crap when it's done."

True. Several times I have had a big "WTF" face while watching the show. I am mostly looking forward for some great action sequences. Seen some gifs on the web that look quite spectacular.

I don't really know which anime's I would put in my top 5, Steins; Gate would definitely been on it though.

Wouldn't call it "weak" as much as it had a lot of unfullfilled potential and a few things that it really could've done well without in which Dean mentioned the most glaring. Alright episode all together but one that suffered a lot in the pacing department. The creators really badly want to end this season at a certain spot and apparently had to rush this episode so that they could reach that point.

About "good turning to crap" I at least got no such concerns and depending on how good the last episode is it's possible that Aldnoah will get a few more mentions in general.

They come A LOT later on.

But the wait is worth it.

Oh, as for episodes 58-61 I'd recommend to watch the movie re-telling JUST for the final fight sequence. It's called the Benizakura arc and is probably the most famous of all the Gintama arcs. It's where Gintama REALLY begins to shine.

I've posted these gifs 100000 times but another time shouldn't hurt.

Though the problem with the movie is that you miss out on this piece of awesome music (that I can't find anywhere due to youtube blocking it.)

Oooor you can just watch both like I did :D

I'm just sayin'

Everytime Gin-san fights it pumps that adrenaline. You're so used to him being a goofball that you forget he's the most bad-ass dude in the galaxy.

@Bro

I'll have my fingers crossed for the ending. I hope it's sooooo freaking cool that it can make up for any of the weaker moments.

I don't want stuff written by our Lord of Feels, Gen, to be 'meh.'

I went into Steins;Gate thinking it would be the best thing ever and was sorely disappointing. The starting and buildup was ok, the middle was amazing but then the end just kind of petered off with terrible characterization, slow pacing and one of the worst climax's I've seen to date.

Spoiler

Is Steins;Gate a bad anime? No. I just don't see what it did to be rated as highly as it is. For me I'd give it a 5/10 maybe a 6/10. But then again I accept my tastes are a bit different then a lot of popular opinions.. Like I think Bleach is one of the worst animes ever made but you can look at how popular and well received that is too so take my ranting with a grain of salt.

Anyways sorry for the rant but I was genuinely upset after finishing the series due to my expectations going in.

@Geth

I'll start One Piece up when my viewing habits are more consistent. I'm not great with the longer ones in general but if I were to try right now I'd never be able to finish it. I'd end up spending a month on the first 50 chapters and then just get burnt out. It is still the next series up on my list though so if and when I do start watching more you'll be sure to hear from me.

Well Toonami is doing a showing of all ten Hellsing Ultimate OVA's over the course of ten weekends, they showed OVA 1 last night.

Got to say rewatching something that in truth was one of the first more modern animes i ever watched, many, many years ago brought back all sorts of feelings of nostalgia.

I mean i first watched those basically as soon as they released, i had read the manga (most of it) back during the 90s and early 2000s, and i even complete the series on both formats eventually although i will say, rewatching it also reminded of the year to several year long waits for the OVA series to just finish, its an excellent series but maybe i say not on it's merits but on the fact it has a place in my heart due to whimsy.

Mmm it also made me feel old.

Ah, episode 11. That was about my stopping point. I loved how unusual Durarara is, but I heard after that point, the show starts to drop in quality.
