I'm not the only one in the BSN to have read it then?

tumblr_lnd6twD9iz1qhhh8io1_500.gif

Oh and yeah. Fantasy is certainly my favourite genre. All because that three hour long movie I watched at the age of five.

Yes, that gif right there <3

Forget BSN.. You're the first person in about 15 years since my dad convinced me to read it that I've talked to that has even heard of it.

It was a long time ago so there's a lot I've forgotten beyond the basic story, but many of the themes and philosophy has stuck with me.

It's one that I almost put down and stopped reading because of 1 part in the first book but I'm glad I stuck with it.

OK now that Rah's done I'm free to go all out with my SSY discussions.. Can't wait to get home now.

Glad you enjoyed it so much Rah, but considering your feelings on PMMM and a few other series that I love to death I can't say it surprises me that you feel so similarly to me with this one.

Check back for my full response on your post and this series later because I have a lot to say.

The whole "if Maria had never been born.." Comment really requires context to get. I like how it shows how much 1 persons life can change things even if not just directly through that person (if you get what I mean)

Just started watching Hellsing Ultimate Abridged from Team Fourstar (same guys who do the arguably best Abridged series for DBZ) and it is absolutely hilarious.

And I haven't even watched the original series. Might well start with that one, but until then ... enthusiastic walks.

15 YEARS?!

I need to read the last chronicles. I hope they're as good as the first and second.

Part one I liked, but it was part two that got me hooked. Mainly because Covenant is a man I feel so much for but at the same time, cannot stand.

It's one of the few books that have made me cry,

Really? Aww, that's a shame. It would have been perfect if the messiah's gender were a secret.

Tbh I still need to read the 2nd chronicles.

But yeah, this is an old series. 70's and 80's I think so it's not a huge surprise that no one beyond my dad and you has even really knows about it..

Other then Tolkein not many people read the classics anymore. I still need to finish the Wheel of Time series but God(oka) damn does it take a long ass time..

This is going to sound odd especially to anyone who has not read the series but I hate Thomas Covenant and yet at the same time can't help but be intrigued with him as a character. He's someone you have to really be willing to put personal feelings aside to look at the context of his situation to understand.

Thomas Covenant does become a lot... 'nicer' in the Second Chronicles... in his own way. But yes, he is certainly amongst the most complex character in fiction I'd say. Like Shinji, you're not really supposed to like him.

However, like I said, I disliked him but at the same time I felt so much pity for him it was unbelievable.

Remember that scene where they put razors in his bread? Just to get rid of him? It's totally justifiable as to why he's like that. Life certainly has NOT been fair to him.

The Second Chorincles are great and the end is very touching. My favourites have been the second book of the first and second chronicles. You get to see outside The Land in that one and see a lot more the greyer areas of the world.

And you get to see more giants, of which all are great. Because giants in Thomas Covenant are the best.

Oh... I can't be the only one to absolutely love Mhoram.

I read both of them two years ago, so they're still fresh in my mind :D

Yep which is what makes him an actual complex character. If you had lived the life he had, and ere put in a situation where you couldn't even be sure if what was happening is even real could you honestly say you wouldn't be like him? I find it interesting that as much as I dislike him I can also still completely sympathize with him which is an incredibly hard thing for a story to pull off.

You're going to have to forgive me since it's been so long and I have a shaky memory on the details but I seem to recall a homeless man who put it perfectly at the start of the first book.. I'm going to have to go back and read exactly how he worded it though.

Sorry for the poor grammar BTW, I'm typing these up in between my work loads on my phone here.

I don't think I'd be alive. The life he's leading? I'd have probably offed myself already. Especially with the easy access to arms in America.

He's very strong not to have done that.

Well, I would have had an easier time with isolation since I'm a loner by nature. But the guy had everything and lost it from nothing as a consequence of society's ignorance.

Like I said. One of the few books to have made me cry on multiple occasions.

Yeah, I love TFS, I cannot wait for the new Hellsing Ultimate Abridged, they release one around Halloween every year (in case you didn't know). I found Hellsing Ultimate to be pretty good too.
