Oh and yeah. Fantasy is certainly my favourite genre. All because that three hour long movie I watched at the age of five.

Forget BSN.. You're the first person in about 15 years since my dad convinced me to read it that I've talked to that has even heard of it.

It was a long time ago so there's a lot I've forgotten beyond the basic story, but many of the themes and philosophy has stuck with me.

It's one that I almost put down and stopped reading because of 1 part in the first book but I'm glad I stuck with it.

It's very interesting how you called the "messiah" 'it' bro. It certainly relates to identity and humanity. What WAS the messiah? Was it human? Was it a queer-rat? Was it neither? I don't know if you did that on purpose or not, but even so, I think 'it' is the most appropriate pronoun you can use when speaking of Maria's child.

 

And yes, SSY is a hidden gem and I'm very glad you appreciated it. Good to know that my bro has an excellent taste in anime!

IIRC the messiah's sex is also a mystery. Sure it looks like a girl, but this is anime, I've seen plenty of dudes look like girls. So that's another interesting thing to think about.

The it was partially something that I intended. Wrote it first and realised it later and decided to keep it because it just fit the best right now. It's all about the perception since "messiah" considered itself a queerat and not a human where as Saki and Satoru saw it as a human. I'll probably alternate on what I'll be calling the child over time.

 

If only Maria had never been born huh.. that line become stronger each time I think about it!

The whole "if Maria had never been born.." Comment really requires context to get. I like how it shows how much 1 persons life can change things even if not just directly through that person (if you get what I mean)

Regarding SSY:

It honestly depends on the translation for the Messiah's gender. I personally watched Unlimited Translation Works' translation of the series (I adore them, their translation of PMMM is what I swear by too) and they kept it ambiguous until the final episode where the Messiah was revealed to be female. I actually don't remember what I skimmed of Crunchyroll's translation since I was merely looking for differences. From what I think I skimmed in passing on notes from the novel, the child is male there. Kind of curious they went with the change but at the same time I feel it's more effective as female in that moment where Saki first sees the child and has a memory jump to Maria. Very emotionally effective imho.

Just started watching Hellsing Ultimate Abridged from Team Fourstar (same guys who do the arguably best Abridged series for DBZ) and it is absolutely hilarious.

 

 

And I haven't even watched the original series. Might well start with that one, but until then ... enthusiastic walks.

Judging by the hole in Hauser and Dawn Roar's corpses we can pretty much guess as to how Dreyfus was able escape captivity, and confront Hendrickson. This seems OoC for Dreyfus, but i wonder if it has to do with that entity who Gowther encountered while reading Dreyfus' mind. (split personality?)

 

Oh and Hendrickson is a beast. Ban's regen still hasn't kicked in, Diane and King were off-paneled, the pimphand Meliodas received was something fierce, Gowther was decapitated, Dark Snow is ridiculous while Gil's, Gustav's and Guila's combo did Jack.

 

Unless Mel Hulks out they'll need Merlin and or Escanor.

15 YEARS?!

I need to read the last chronicles. I hope they're as good as the first and second.

Part one I liked, but it was part two that got me hooked. Mainly because Covenant is a man I feel so much for but at the same time, cannot stand.

Tbh I still need to read the 2nd chronicles.

But yeah, this is an old series. 70's and 80's I think so it's not a huge surprise that no one beyond my dad and you has even really knows about it..

Other then Tolkein not many people read the classics anymore. I still need to finish the Wheel of Time series but God(oka) damn does it take a long ass time..

This is going to sound odd especially to anyone who has not read the series but I hate Thomas Covenant and yet at the same time can't help but be intrigued with him as a character. He's someone you have to really be willing to put personal feelings aside to look at the context of his situation to understand.

Yep which is what makes him an actual complex character. If you had lived the life he had, and ere put in a situation where you couldn't even be sure if what was happening is even real could you honestly say you wouldn't be like him? I find it interesting that as much as I dislike him I can also still completely sympathize with him which is an incredibly hard thing for a story to pull off.

You're going to have to forgive me since it's been so long and I have a shaky memory on the details but I seem to recall a homeless man who put it perfectly at the start of the first book.. I'm going to have to go back and read exactly how he worded it though.

Yeah, I love TFS, I cannot wait for the new Hellsing Ultimate Abridged, they release one around Halloween every year (in case you didn't know). I found Hellsing Ultimate to be pretty good too.
