Yang saw that the Empire was the best way to go for the present. However, his reason to against autocracy was plain and simple.

 

To quote LOTR... "a lesser son to greater sires." It's exactly what Yang was worried about. A monarchy is only as good as its monarch. The moment Reinhard dies, what then? Will his successor be just as good? Will his policies be reformed back to the old ways?

 

It's simple. You don't need a degree in political science to understand that.

 

Hell, just read Accursed Kings *wink wink, nudge nudge.* Philip the Fair did WONDERS for France (albeit, made a few mistakes here and there) but overall, medieval France was the most powerful kingdom in Europe.

Heck even Reinhard knows this could happen when he tells his wife to stop his son from gaining power if he is a weak or poor leader. Reinhards feeling on this is simple, if someone is a better leader then him then they should take it. This could also explain why he wanted Yang to join the Empire so badly. Yang was just not a good rival, Yang is everything Reinhard respects (well at least his professional life, personal life probably not XD)

My issue has less to do with the rapey nature of it and more to do with the lack of having any strong female presence in the story as a result of it.

You do get a couple interesting female characters later in the series but none quite like Caska. I get why the setting would have a mostly male cast but I still like for there to be a few strong characters for both genders.

There are times when it feels like females are only in the story of Berserk to get raped. That's not entirely true but it doesn't feel like that much of a stretch to say either.

Then again there is Shierke (or however the hell you say it) later on the story and she is awesome in many ways so I guess there's that. I love how one of the single most powerful and intelligent people in such a fucked up series is a little girl.. It's fitting in a weird way (sorry I know you haven't met her yet Sim..)

Zankyou No Terror!

Just got to start with the insanely amazing soundtracks used this episode! They are absolutely out of this world good! The final episode of Zankyou No Terror was the perfect finale on this show and really made up for the somewhat boring ones that happened a bit earlier. Things didn't end exactly how it seemed it would for a while and that's something I'm very happy to see. There were also some very impressive visuals especially with the atomic bomb but also at the place where they waited for Shibazaki. Was rather suprised to the US forced swop in shot twelve and then leave in a flash, either way both 12 and 9 got what they wanted and Lisa more than did her part as the damsel but also became a person of interest regarding Sphinx. For a very long time she looked like she'd be one massive waste but they had a plan and I'm pretty happy with how it all turned out. The show had a very interesting premise and the story for large parts developed in a good direction. A bump here and there but nothing that in the end made the show that much worse. The characters they picked to focus on most of the time were good, the exception will always be 5 but she did end up memorable due to the very amusing "engrish"

 

 

Do I recommend that people watch this show? Yeah, I do!

Watched Zankyou. I'd say Shibazaki, Mukasa, and Hamura, were probably the best characters.

Oh sorry I hid my post, well whatever. Anyway, yeah but the problem with Fate/Zero was that it wasn't even a D grade harem experience or whatever, it was just a clusterF of absurd fights, misbegotten characters, overwrought violence. Like there was that whole episode of Gilgamesh in that absurd shirt, just drinking wine and talking about god knows what. Then there was the worm character who to this day I have no idea what happened or where that character arc ended. Heck, I can't even remember how the anime ended, it was a strange feeling. Just one big massive pile of meh.

 

I guess I just wanted to do my Fate/Zero spiel like you did with Stein's Gate.

When you say worm character I'm not sure who your talking about? If your referring to Berserkers master (Kariya I think) I'd probably agree, I don't like stories that spend the entire time shitting on a character just to discard them at the end, it was a pointlessly cruel waste of the audiences time and emotional investment. I don't like authors shitting on my emotions just for the sake of shitting on my emotions. If they're going to have a character I like suffer so much at least have some kind of reason for it or some kind of meaningful character arc connected with it, other then just making him suffer because this whole world caters to the antagonists psychotic wet dreams.

That said I think there was a decent degree of subtext and meaning behind a lot of the violence (not all of it I'll admit) and it did deal with some mature themes rather well.

Don't worry, spiels can be fun in their own way. It's not a bad way to get conversations going either.
