Actually, at this very moment I'm not reminded of any steampunk anime. *scratches head* :huh:

edit: on the anime, Last Exile is a bit difficult but has a nice adventurous and story-telling feel to it. Also I liked most of the characters.

For the most part no.

But Last Exile is a great exception, same with BIG O.

Also thats why I liked it. I could name a few steampunkish titles, the oldest you could say would be Arcadia or Space Pirate Captain Harlock and the myraid of shows connected in that universe, though that can be debated as its in space/nonearth bodies.

However some of the spaceships are trains, but at the same time some look highly futuristic like say the Space Battleship Yamato, or like something out of history/fantasy like Queen Emeraldas, and her pirate/blimp/spaceship. So I'm not sure what would would call that universe. Scifi-fantasy?

Hahaha. That sounds awesome enough to be steampunk.

(though i don't particularly enjoy the aesthetic myself... it is an aesthetic though? I can't imagine it being much more - as a genre it wouldn't say much about what actually happens, no?)

Legend of Korra is almost an anime and it looks pretty steampunk imo.

All of the steam powered like technology like the mecha tanks and the electric gloves they use in the series. The era looks like it takes place in an industrial resolution era and republic city kind of makes me think of a 1930's new york city.

If there are supernatural abilities and an abundance of technology in your universe, it can be pretty tricky to have it blend together smoothly

It has to do with the technology that is available in a universe. For example, Legend of Korra is steampunk influenced because of it's steam-powered tech. Fable II is as well, not only because some of the tech but the clothes too.

What is the show about?

I'm only 8 episodes in but as far as I can tell it's about how the different magical guilds in the world interact with each other.
