I'm asking what you consider to be the longest series that is actually worth investing time into. I consider anything above 50 episodes too long with the rare exception being shows like FMA:B and LoGH (I'm guessing with this one since I have not seen it)
I have not seen FMA:B the anime (only read the manga) otherwise it'd probably be on the top of my list. The longest I've seen that I felt was worth actually watching is Clannad at 47 episodes (I think...)
Exactly. It's an easy sell because people are already invested enough in it. Why care about whether your story is good or not when people will watch it regardless?
It's pretty much like the author is just flat out saying he couldn't care less. I mean I'm sure he still does to some extent but obviously getting that paycheque was more important then giving the series a decent conclusion that isn't strung along for god knows how long and full of ass pulls.
I would just like to preface by saying that I don't even know who the author is, so I don't even know his affiliations (whether is independent or works for a company, though I am betting he works for a company).
Another thing to consider is that the author might actually want Naruto to end, but the company she/he is working for won't let him/her. If that is the case then the author could be intentionally doing a bad job in an attempt to kill it so that she/he can do their next concept or the author could be doing a bad job because it doesn't care anymore and just wants to work on something else.
It would be pretty hard to leave a company that one has worked for years and earned respect/raises in.
Who knows.
Edit: Another possibility is that the Author could just have a hard time of letting go and knows that this is the greatest thing that they will ever be able to achieve.
Then why bring up Naruto and Bleach? I mean I dislike them too but not so much as to think of them as anime first. lol
Are you talking to me because I don't get what your getting at here...?
Reread my question. I didn't even mention Naruto or Bleach in it. I asked what you consider to be the longest running anime that is still worth watching? I'm not sure how that turned into a discussion on the manga's vs the anime of Bleach and Naruto...
Then I'd say Bakuman. It's around 60+ episodes and three seasons. Not that it's "some deep sh*t" but it stays true to its goal and doesn't stray from it. I'd say the anime is better simply because it skips this entirely pointless arc that the manga had. However it suffers from it to, because it is kind of foreshadowed in the anime too.
Also Gintama. It's a gag manga that never strives to be more than that, and when it wants to do its more serious arcs and add developments to what can be considered its "main plot" it does it very well. Every 'serious' arc begins light-hearted and builds up from there to an epic climax at the end. Sure you'll have the shounen tropes (which it constantly makes fun off btw) but that's the entire point.
Apart from that?
I haven't really watched many long series. LotGH (of course) and Gintama are the longest ones. FMAB... Bakuman... errr...
JoJo? I'd put all the seasons together as one overarching story. In that case, yeah, JoJo.
@Pitoukamegeth-sama
We are all failing our intelligence rolls in comparison to you.
Tbh I don't even think a manga can realistically be given as part of that question Pitou (unless you don't watch any anime whatsoever maybe) I mean I can blow through a 600 page chapter manga faster then a couple seasons of any show so in terms of actual time investment a manga > anime in almost every case, plus it tends to have less filler.

No I read your question fine. lol And forget it. Just my stupid sense of humor.
But to just say to all the above posts I would not bring up Bakuman, Naruto and Bleach because they are manga first.
HxH (2011) and FMA:B are fine tho because those shows are fine.
No need. I read the manga as it was ongoing. I watched the first 17 episodes of the anime which were solid enough but it really didn't add anything the manga didn't already have (which I think was the point, it was trying to stay true to the manga)
I'm sure I would still enjoy it but I'd rather go through a story I haven't experienced yet then spend 60 some episodes rehashing a story I already know.
Plus I'm just a bit PO that since Brotherhood came out the original FMA series went from being one that constantly topped top 10 lists to being shunned and constantly bashed.
I'm looking at my 'watched list' and to be honest, I can't find many outside those.
I'd say When they Cry, it's an anime I enjoyed loads. It's gruesome and clever with its supernatural elements and mystery but there are a few shortcomings that prevent it coming next to those few.
Soul Eater would have definitely been there if its second half wasn't lack-lustre.
So I guess its back to manga, where 60ch is really 'short.' However, considering its monthly, I'd put Attack on Titan on the list simply because its always kept a mean quality (the mathematical mean, not the mean that Petepitiousnerfgeth is.) LoL how the hell did I pass math? Anyway, the quality remains constant throughout. And except for its slights here and there, it always manages to surpass these with excellent story telling (though the art is something to be desired, it doesn't bother me much.)
Medaka Box is another manga which takes the p*ss out of shounen and Highschool stories and does a great job at it. It's also hilarious. Again, the quality jumps, but it's mostly solid (though less than AoT) all the way through.
Now Silver Spoon is a brilliant Slice of Life by Himoru Arakawa. It's over 100ch and it only gets better. Not surprising, she is really good. Other than that, Genshiken is another slice of life which is down to earth and simultaneously hilarious. It keeps a solid story going all the way through to Nidame which is also good too. Genshiken is over 100ch whilst Nidame is 90+. It's admirable that a sequel doesn't drop in quality and there's also a very cool character called Hato. The mangaka does a great job and not taking the p*ss out of transsexuals and actually explores the inner conflict of Hato's sexuality.
Btw, no comments on the Berserk post? :'( I wrote that just for you too. Was excited to hear your thoughts on it tbh.
Tell me this at least: Have you read the special chapters in the eclipse arc which deal with God and Griffith? I know they're removed in a lot of versions since the author felt it gave too much away too early but they are extremely interesting and do a lot to explain why things are happening as they are. They add a great deal of context to the series and to Griffith in general.
Ah too bad... that's going to make talking about certain things tricky even once you get caught up.. Ah well.
I don't think they should have been removed personally but maybe I'm just bias because they were still part of the series when I originally went through it.
Edit: Ftr I'm right there with you on my brain being like mush atm.
