I hate it when Berserk's on hiatus, but 2014 has been good in regards new releases. 2013 was insane because there was only one chapter released. Fortunately, the plot pacing seems to be progressing faster now and the direction it's heading in is interesting. Some heavy stuff is going down.

I started watching the first Berserk movie, that **** is awful like wtf man. The soundtrack was nice though.

So got 3 episodes left. And I can tell the 'romance' isn't going to be resolved :-(

 

Still, it's been enjoyable all the way through. Not outstanding, but enjoyable. However, I don't think it's the anime that's lacking and it's just me personally who really can't takes its more serious moments... well, seriously. But I do appreciate the current demolition arc and Jin's resolution. They were well done.

 

It's just Kanda. He doesn't come off as believable. I can't empathise with a character who feels like he's a damned soap opera with his over-the-top outbursts of emotion. He isn't likeable at all for me. I don't hate him either, since when he's not auditioning for Shakespeare he's fine.

 

I think I've just been spoiled by Key anime, which does this a whole lot better. Even Kanon, which wasn't nearly as good as Clannad, was a deal better than most romance anime.

 

Again, it's enjoyable and I do like it. Hell, I love some of the characters. But it's Kanda that doesn't click with me at all.

 

Perhaps it's because I'm the opposite, a dude who bottles all that sh*t in. And I'm a lot more carefree about these things. Probably because I've tasted defeat before and after overcoming that I've become dull to it if it ever comes again.

 

So yeah, I can empathise for the others who've tried and tired but can never seem to pass. Aoyama is one of them. But Kanda?

 

Dude. You've only seem him play freaking Dragon Quest for thirty seconds. Why is he trying to make games? They could at least establish he's a gamer who's passionate about them instead of him picking out a number from the sorting hat, getting 'games' and pretending he's worked his entire life just to make them.

I found all of the other characters to be far more likable than Kanda, I actually wanted to smack and yell at Kanda when he started acting dickish and began yelling at Mashiro, because you know, she wasn't at fault for anything, despite that I didn't hate him either.

 

So it pretty much goes without saying that Kanda didn't click with me either, but I think that was done on purpose and is a large point of the anime.

They took a normal person (Kanda) and threw him in with all of these seemingly troubled people (people with social issues of some sort or another). The kicker was that the seemingly troubled people, weren't all that troubled compared to the normal guy, I mean if you think about it they all knew what the wanted out of life (what they wanted to do) and the normal guy has absolutely no clue on what he wants to do. To me it seemed that he latched on to making video games out of a desperation to have something to call his own talent, because he was surrounded by incredibly talented people. 

 

I believe the main theme of the show is that: You probably aren't going to be truly happy until you get out there and find what you want to do

. You won't necessarily succeed and you'll probably have to work your ass off compared to others just to attempt to reach their level, but you should try

Kanda, Aoyama and Rita working hard to keep up, but failing

. Times are going to be tough and you won't always get your way, but even so you should strive to be extraordinary and let your happy memories carry you forward

Sakurasou nearly being torn down, Kanda and Aoyama failing, failure to get the signatures to prevent Sakurasou's demolition. The senior class graduating leading to Misaki and Jin leaving, but the others carrying on their traditions.

I was super disappointed that the romance wasn't resolved too. I don't know if they wussed out, wanted to leave it open for another season or if they didn't solve it to show that Kanda still didn't know what he wanted (in this case who).

 

 

Of course I could be reading into this way to much and it could just be as simple as this:

The soundtrack is appropriate for the settings. The movie is a pack of few episodes in the middle of the series. It's GORY. So what was awful about it? The only awful thing in Berserk is Griffith, until the real sh*t is released.

Well she's not super pretty, yeah. But I'm attracted to her character. Anime chicks don't look pretty to me as a rule.

Just watched the first ep of the new Terraformars anime. Didn't catch the vibe of the original at all, sadly. Might get better, yet doubtful, as no studio apparently makes good seinen anymore, all's shounened-up.

I don't know about that. Good adult orientated anime is still out there. It's just rare. Maybe one per season.
