Tell me how it is a few episodes in and I'll list it based on your opinion :-)

I'm currently 6 Episodes in and I recommend it. I find the main character to actually be interesting, but I cannot say why without spoiling things. Golden Time still retains the school theme, but it is okay, because this time it is a College Law School! The show has Comedy, but it doesn't appear to be the main focus (when it tries to be funny, it always succeeds), the main focus appears to be Romance and Mystery/Discovery.

Chihayafuru is taking leaps forward by each episode and is already just passed the halfway point of the first season miles better than I could ever expected it to be. It's nailed so many things completely but one that really should be mentioned is that the show really has managed to make the competetive Karuta matches feel genuinly competetive and I'm just as thrilled watching these games as I'm when watching any other sport that I like. It's really engaging to watch Chihaya learn and develop in every game!

The last episode I watched ended with Chihaya taking two cards of the queen who is an excellent addition to the show and I'm super pleased that she got introduced this early so there're plenty of time to build things up between her and Chihaya. Also clearly we're dealing with two amazing ladies that sport some fabulous t-shirts!

 

 

Chihaya is amazing but she has yet to develop the skill to pass through solid objects

It makes me so happy to have someone else on the forums who likes this show and actually talks about it :')

 

Chihayafuru has some of the best characterization I've seen in an anime. And the Karuta matches are always interesting. The second season spends most of it's time focused on the tourneys and those get pretty intense.

 

I like the Queen a lot, she's mastered the art of the underhanded insult.

I've only seen the Queen for 1,5 episodes but she's already one very fascinating person and if SSY completely nailed the eerie aura then Queen showcase the perfect confident aura. Her thoughts to herself when she played again Chihaya and that she just wanted to get the game over with fast and do something else. That's some insanely good confidence!
